Did I mentioned how much I love the pace of this drama?
I mean a proper wedding, a proper marriage life. We are not given a glimpse of their togetherness. That was the best wedding ever. It wasnt just a grand walk in wedding outfit, it was the whole scenes. Not to mentioned in other dramas we were forced to buy a few minutes of their happines in bonus ep.
We have abundance plot twists, we have enemies after enemies. And our lead couple are acfually smart smart, they have anticipated all the scheming plots by the other woman. They won wars after wars with ingenious tactics.
All acted very well. Even the nasty aunt played horribly good.

CXZ mom is easily influenced by others, that's true. But not because she is a bad person, she's too trusting of people closes to her. She doesnt believe her sister and niece would do her or her son harm.
But overall she trust and love her son the most. She refused to allow her son to marry LMT. But she gave up in the end. Because she knows her son well.
Now, she may not like LMT much (yet), but since she's not a hateful person, can't blame her here. She didnt know the whole story. All she knew was LMT is a mistress, an impure woman, once part of rebel/bandit, that's not someone she wants for her precious son. LMT will win her over. She will not treat LMT badly, because it's not in her nature to treat someone badly.
I dont think her mentioning concubines to LMT was because she is suggesting LMT to allow CXZ to have concubines. But to have her prepare that as a lord (based on her personal experience with CXZ dad) there might come a time where that would be her fate too.
But since we know CXZ, he wont have a concubine. LMT should never worry about that. I mean he cancelled his engagement, he broke his leg to get out of a marriage decree. Having a concubine is equal to loosing LMT. So he wont do it. And if her son is not going to do it, mom will listen to her son.
I like the pace of this drama. A plot is not drag all the way to the end. Misunderstanding didnt take 39 ep to resolved only leaving 1 happy episode at the end.
I always find it as a plot hole, when we are supposed to have smart leading characters yet they fall for scheme by somewhat insignificant side character. And it will continue to drag on for many episodes. Seriously.
Or the other cliche where they continue to fight one enemy again and again. Defeating the enemy only for that enemy to plot a fight back and the drama drags on again. I mean a smart strong lead should be able to handle one enemy completely.
Here, the characters evolved, plot continues. One enemy defeated and ready to fight a new one ahead. Our leads evolve, even He zhen character evolved, the empress tho slowly, starts to shows some backbone. I love watching it.
But no drama would ever satisfy everybody. What I love, might be the exact thing the next person hate. The pace that I love might be to fast or too slow for others.
Fortunately for me, i watch what I like, not depending on what other's take of it.
Meeting likely minded fellow fans on the board is lovely. Seeing post disliking it, i just skip it. Each to it's own.

I am not a big fan of Ziyu. But clearly he is the better king than that toddler king and his vicious mother who keep trying to kill CXZ.
ZY needs to stay in power, the alternative (prince Sui) would be a terrible option.
He has so far respected LMT wishes, he could as king ordered LMT to be his concubine, he didnt. He could make things difficult for CXZ, he didnt. He could try and stopped the both of them from being together, he didnt.
For all of that, ZY gets to stay King. A peaceful country, means CXZ gets to go to war less.

Two scheming b.....ch trying to outdo a rebel leader, never gonna happened. She could stop the plot at anytime. With her martial art, she could've caught the wang nanny red handed.
Look how stern she was scolding that lian innocent act. I am the future lady of the house, a princess to boot, you are a nobody. She did it so elegant with respect to her future mother in law. She could pursue it further, but she knows her kind mother in law too soft hearted and kind to allow something bad to her sister and niece in public. She still allows the lian off, gave them face. Not that those b...ches deserved them.
