When viewers have to explain the plot to themselves to fill in the gap in the story line, i call that plot hole.
WS kidnapping a personal issue? Ok, where was CP men in the search for WS? Are we supposed to believe CP have no men at all to search for WS? How is he not worried at all for WS? It's happening off screen. We are filling in with plausible explanations.
The minister got lucky he landed the information on WS? yeah, not a very good explanation, i regard that as plot holes.
Anle's army of 30k not known because it was too remote or too far away for the government not to notice? Yeah. Not making sense. The empress dowager was so scared of 80K of Di's army she plotted to kill them all off. Yet a 30K private army they knew nothing about? Not a smidge of recognition. Say the palace never heard of anle's army. Shouldnt that local government who tries to rescue the CP, shouldn't they heard of anle's army? 30K is alot, they operate openly, have flags, have HQ, a smidge of recognition would make more sense.
I find it hard to like LMX. How he treated MQ, cheng en's guard or how easily he wants to kill di cheng en once she outlived her usefulness. He is treating them like they are his property, like a slave owner.
Too many to counts. The most recent was how HY kill the minister in public, demanding WS release. Yet after he ignore the fact the minister have WS as a hostage and kill him anyway. He did not make any attempt to send someone to save WS. Other than mentioning to LMX in passing to find WS.
He didnt even tell LMX that WS was kidnapped. Didn't sent his own men to find WS. In prison, he didnt even worry about WS and after he got out of prison, he just said, i heard you escape on your own. Really? This is coming from a man who killed a minister in public for kidnaping and threatened him.
Logically the minister would kept WS alive as he needs to control HY. So HY should try to find him to save him. How did the minister knew about WS anyway? It was a well guarded secret. No one knew. But we are supposed to just accept the minister knew somehow. The minister didnt know that di cheng en was the fake DJY, but somehow knew about WS real identity. If the minister knew about WS, why not use him to get the di family supporter. Surely a living male descendant of the Di family is worthy of exploitation? Yet the minister didnt use this fact.
The most glarring to me was about anle. She was openly the leader of 30k pirate/navy army. Yet, when HY first met her, he never heard of Anle's army? Not knowing about her as the leader I get. But as a prince at least he would've heard of the existence of 30K army?

When I first started watching, I was expecting the ussual suspects, the hero against the villain. Your typical martial drama. But after a great fighting scenes, nothing typical about it at all.
The hero is a weak dying man, but still witty as hell. The young hero, is as green as can be. Full of good intentions, but as gullible as a 5 yo in the real world. And to add to the plot twist, a villain whose not a villain.
Somehow mashing them together make the lovable trio. I have to say, the writing is so good. Just enough of mysteries, chemistries between the trio, best bromance and a dash of good fighting scenes (i am so bored of so many CGI sword fights).
Even the romance is given a nice dose of reality. A loving couple drifting appart because of different phase in their life. She move on to the man who choose her over everything else. Very grown up, very real.
It is the best drama I've watched in a long time. Brilliant acting, great story. I love a good romance drama. But a great bromance like this one is rare. And most importantly they nailed the comedy!

Ep 31, I am ignoring the plot holes that's getting bigger and bigger. Logic pretty much non existence. Is it because of the 40ep limitation that many of the scenes got cut?
Most things happened off screen, audience only gets told via light conversations.
We have 8 episodes left. And not a single kiss so far, will we get only at the end? If it's a happy end.
It has so much promises at the start. I am still watching, but really, just to get to the end. 😮💨
I googled the 40ep restriction reasons. It make sense why they are implementing it. I think it should only apply to new drama in production. Finished drama but not yet aired shouldn't suffer the new regulations.
Ackkkk. I should've done my research before watching. I like it, but was considering to watch only after 2nd season complete too. Now to wait that long, the agony.... whyyyy the cruelty of torturing viewers with the longgggg wait. Waiting for new episodes were torture enough 😫
I like the fact that they always mentioned the 80k soldiers as the main reason for them seeking revenge, not that the Di family deaths not important. It shows them as a just leader/family, the lives of 80k soldiers carries heavier burden on them. But at the same time I cringe, those soldiers were not alone. They have families, the devastation of 80K families should also be mentioned. They have parents, wife, children.... etc. You know 80K families would be in the hundred of thousands. Their lives must be devastated too, they would live under the stigma of families of rebels.
Just saying, they should at least acknowledge the soldiers families too.
She had them, she just dont use it. She believe a noble lady = a meek existence. She didnt fight with her father, she didn't fight her brother, she just cry. Being a noble educated lady means you take all the abuse from the people around you and that equals elegance of a noble lady.

Even with her 30k private army, anle never acted towards anything that might destabilise the nation. She fought bandits, pirates off.
Just like her dad, anle's aim have always been to protect the people. Not powers.
