I loved the young Clive Owen, bursting with charisma. Chancer series 1 (ITV) was so cool (series 2 total crap, as with every series). In those days I used to watch English tv when we also had weekly dramas and decent quality... where did it all go wrong? Years later the BBC woke up when Netflix started making top notch drama, but by then the rot had set in and it's still rotten to the core. If I try to watch anything in English these days I feel physically sick, almost immediately.

Speaking of Clive Owen, Children of Men is one of his best films, and becoming more and more prophetic as time goes by. By far the best dystopian science fiction film ever made, from the great Alfonso Cuaron.

He's also amazing in Close My Eyes, made when English movies were at their peak, with some magnificent cinematography of the docklands renovation and countryside. It's controversial, so not for the snowflakes of MDL - they know who they are, the virtue-signalling thought police.

The more you watch, the more you'll notice the difference and appreciate top quality vs medium quality.

It's about charisma. There's lovely and there's gongvely, both can carry a movie or drama. SHS isn't quite at that level, her best to date are her support roles and My Golden Life... she hasn't yet transferred that to a top-end drama.

But we need to stretch our suspension of disbelief even further than that... a young man finds himself shacked up with a gorgeous woman... and complains about it? No way! He'd be silently fist pumping in the corner (no not that type of fist pumping). And a musician complaining about having to... play music? Unlikely, otherwise they picked the wrong guy for the task. Anyway, just kidding, if everything went hunky dory from the start we'd be lacking in the drama department.
