Does anyone know why the families are fighting (from the novel)?
Okay, from what I got out of the novel: It is because of the businesses, each one felt the other wronged or slighted them in some way. I can't remember which was which but one business was new and the more established one claimed to have given the new business lots of tips, advice and support. Then the new business started doing a lot better and winning more contracts for jobs which put the older one in a tight spot. So the older one went to the newer one asking for a loan to complete a job (i think) but the newer one said they couldn't afford to loan any money. The older business got mad and thought they were lying and purposely trying to put them out of business.
the gun plot was the most random addition to this series lmao
Yeah it's different than in the book. In the book Wai is the one that has a gun and he fires it to make everyone scatter because of how bad the fight was getting. Pat isn't shot but is hit in the head by something and has to get stitches.
Gah. This show tricked me. I only started watching it because I thought it was complete. I should have done my…
Haha I felt this comment so much. I knew about this show but had been too busy to really watch anything. Finally got some free time and sat down to binge watch it on Viki thinking it was complete. Got to episode 10 and was like WTF??
Ummm... the ending was so confusing... was it a dream or reality? I see that some people are mentioning a second…
I was wondering the same, because he's lying there asleep and the next scene literally fades in like they would normally do a dream sequence, so..... I'm assuming it's Ben's dream idea of an ending. Then the June date pops up with that dialogue and I'm just confused as to how what is said fits into the ending scene if it was a dream. I'm just confused entirely lol
If Jim misunderstands what's going on in the last seen, I'm dropping this. It was too clear to be misunderstood.
That's what I was thinking too. I went back and replayed it a few times. You can clearly tell it wasn't right but they ended with Jim looking all shocked at Ben. Like dude, your man is being molested, do something. Also, in those situations you gotta make things clear. If I was Ben I'd have ran and stood behind Jim, like instant affirmation of "yes, I'm happy you're here, please help"
There's a mystery between the ML parents. And somewhat Leo's physical violence to Ben is intriguing.
Yep. They're being way to shifty and vague about it, I'm waiting for them to drop some shit like "Surprise Ben, I slept with Jim's dad 20-whatever years ago and he's actually your father and Jim's your half-brother."
What was all that confession about? So confused by how it happened so sudden lmao
I think everyone is, that was a complete mess. I rarely comment on anything but I'm so disappointed in that scene that I've already ranted about it twice lol. I was so looking forward to the moment they confessed and cleared the air... and instead we got that... whatever it was
Look, Pai is a sweet nerd and all but... he WON the contest? By doing what, exactly? His answers were practically…
Haha ikr!? She even joked if someone forced him to participate. Like this guys complete lack of enthusiasm for this contest is blatant. Even with Itt dropping out of the talent part and losing points, how did Pai have enough points to win over Folk and all the other guys?
What the heck?! I actually liked this show. I enjoyed the slow burn, it felt realistic to me. But now I want to…
I agree, I've already ranted once but I want to rant again. This episode left me feeling like I completely missed something. I was really looking forward to the moment when they would each realize the feelings/motivations of the other. Where is the explanation of wtf was going on in Itt's mind? If he was apparently 'never actually mad' at Pai, then why was he an ass to Pai for the rest of high school? If not only Pure, but Wann also knew that Itt was secretly in love with Pai, then why would he let his best friend be that miserable for that long and not even try to encourage a reconciliation? I know that in real life we sometimes have those moments where tiny actions and looking into each others eyes tells you everything you need to know. I get that, but even this seemed to fall short of that. Pai now knows about Itt's true feelings so it makes sense that he will start to see the true intent behind Itt's actions, so its understandable that maybe somethings dont need to get talked about. But damn, I would at least ask 'why'. Idk, maybe the scene felt so unsatisfying because like you said there was very little chemistry between them at that moment. They felt more like friends reconciling or ppl that already knew they liked each other and had been dancing around the issue until one made a move and the other is touched but not surprised. Of course, I guess they both are the super stoic type.. whatever, i give up lol. I keep thinking of excuses for everything I didn't like about it but i still can't help but be dissatisfied with it.
The confession scene and stuff seemed kind of awkward. Like they barely seem like a couple. I would personally…
I thought that scene was super weird too, I kept thinking I must of missed something or the translation was messed up. All the sudden everything is fine, Itt has this all set up after telling Pure that basically he felt there was no hope (so when did he change his mind) and they're both all smiles. But how did Pai even know to go in the room and why did Itt look unsure about him going in, only for it to be obviously set up for Pai to see. (Idk I guess maybe Itt hinted that something was in the room when he told Pai to meet him, which is how I'm guessing Pai knew to go there in the first place. And maybe Itt looked unsure because he was afraid of being rejected.) But where was an actual explanation of his weird behavior. Like, Waan tells Pai that Itt was never mad at him in high school, so if he was never actually mad then why did he treat Pai like that in high school? I don't know, it just seemed like a whole segment was cut out leaving this awkward transition. I guess I can believe the whole bullying to make Pai learn more about himself and force him out of his shell. Is it the best way to it, probably not, but young people aren't known for always making the best decisions. Overall, the whole confession/reconciliation feels like such a let down after waiting for so long to see it happen. Or maybe I'm just stupid and am missing something, that's totally possible too.
I just watched this series again. I loved it but I am ticked off. Why wasn’t the grandpa in jail? He killed…
I know what you mean, I was thinking something similar. I didn't really expect him to be jailed or anything considering the situation, BUT I was surprised at how chill everyone was afterwards. Oh well, grandpa killed my uncle, we'll just have to move forward. I'm surprised they didn't even show at least 5 minutes of her having to come to grips with the fact that her whole reality and view of her family just shifted, to know your beloved family member did something so heinous. It deserves at least a little soul searching right? And the housekeeper, essentially this man tricked her into killing a child she cared for. Shouldn't she be pissed? Then there's Thun and the comment he made about how he wouldn't be able to bring himself to face her grandfather for a while and it was said in a sheepish manner, as though he had embarrassed himself and is like "wow I lost face, I can't face him because of what I did."
People mentioned that the confession seemed half-hearted or off for a confession scene but I think it made sense for the character. I think this confession was just something very heavy for him to carry through with. He doesn't even seemed relieved to have it out in the open, therefore a warm, brightly lit tone wouldn't be appropriate. At the end Ben smiles and is happy but Jim is still crying. Honestly, the tone feels almost like that of someone who is accepting a burden. He admits he isn't brave so it seems as though living that life wont be easy for him but he's resigned himself to it because he can't stand to see Ben with someone else. Even the way he was talking, he listed off his conditions for them being together and that's a bit odd to do as soon as you are at the point where both people are acknowledging that there is mutual feelings. I can see where the story could be going for the synopsis to say they turn from lovers back to strangers. Jim doesn't seem happy or relieved to finally tell Ben that he loves him and I feel like the difference in how they apparently will feel about the potential for a relationship could make it hard to sustain one. Ben will be ecstatic and feel like his dream came true and Jim could potentially feel reluctant and maybe resentful of the position he's in.
Yeah, I read the synopsis several times especially "Back to strangers". Now seeing Ep6 preview, I wonder if Leo…
I was thinking that too. I just watched this episode and was all happy, and then I remembered the synopsis here and was like FML. But like someone mentions below, I wouldn't be surprised if the series ended with Ben and Olan together or moving towards being together after Ben and Jim fall apart.
