I'm thinking of watching this, but I hesitate with Emperor romances because there's just too many women for me…
I too have trouble wrapping my head around the whole multiple wives thing in ancient chinese dramas lol. but anyway, this story is not like that at all. the female lead is 100% his only love interest. The emperor is one of those "was never interested in girls until he met her" characters and doesn't even look at any of the other women clambering for him (funnily enough, most of his concubines actually don't care about him either and just live their lives enjoying hobbies and playing together. it's really a weird drama where the harem get along like sisters lol) and no he doesn't have an offical empress. He does have a LOT of concubines, because he uses the inner palace as a "refuge shelter" as its called in the drama. basically he uses the title of "concubine" to house all these people, LOL, but he's never even met like half of them. to conclude, its totally not a multiple woman thing. there isn't even a love triangle. now isn't that the more shocking thing? The drama of the show definitely centres around a "friends to lovers" plot rather then a "multiple love interest plot" in other words, it's far less bitchy and way more about how the emperor and the FL actually FEEL. And the best part of the whole drama is that the emperor acts so indifferent to women in general, he gets friendzoned so hard by the FL. Like an emperor friendzoned by his own concubine. I found that the best part of the drama. anyway, totally recommend. you'll really enjoy it.
I just finished it too. I really felt the ending was rushed. There are a lot of loopholes actually. Wei Qing and…
Wow, we got barely any back story on XF. like, damn, he was always perceived as the innocent and nice one, i really wanted him to confess to everything. He's not a bad person. He was just young and vulnerable (also having that psycho mom as your backer doesn't help with teaching behaviourisms to a young child) but damn, was I also the only one expecting the cute af bromance of the brothers once they finally reconciled. after an extremely angsty physical fight that turns into a heartwarming bro to bro talk that is. (but tbh 6ft WQ would probs break XF in half LOL) I also wanted some hidden scenes of WQ being nice to XF when they were younger. I'm sure those moments would have happened because WQ was never a cruel person.
omg. you know. i thought the mom was just so traumatised by her husband's death that she'd somehow connected WQ with killing him and that it was all a misunderstanding caused by the tragedy both of them had faced. but omg. She hadn't misunderstood anything, she knew WQ didn't actually physically harm her husband and that it was the robbers. Which means she literally says WQ killed him because the husband went to america to see him. LIKE WTF. And even if you can excuse that (blame PTSD idk),even before he died, she didn't want the father of her own child to see his son one last time. As a mother shouldn't you care for your child more then your husband? in fact, shouldn't you be worried your child would never see his father again and do anything to let him say goodbye to his dad? omg, I wonder if she ever even loved WQ? She was psycho even before all the events started happening. The dad was the best character ever. How on earth did he fall for her. You're totally right. we didn't even get an apology out of her. I don't even think her speech really comforted WQ at all and I dont think it was her intention either. All she did was list all the reasons why she hated him and then was like "also im not gonna tell you what happened to your dad. work it out yourself. but just know that you killed him." OMG HAHAHA. what a witch.
I just finished it too. I really felt the ending was rushed. There are a lot of loopholes actually. Wei Qing and…
yeah we never even saw the mom again. and tbh i felt like that little explanation talk wasnt enough. i was expecting a huge scene full of angst of her finally realising it wasn't WQ's fault for the dad's death. the "big reveal" if you will. Also wow. i didn't see it coming but xiaofei was actually behind everything in their younger years. I thought just because WQ was young, he was upset about suddenly having to share his parents, but it turns out xiaofei did things and blamed WQ on purpose because he was scared of being abandoned. that cut so deep and also made me feel even more sorry for WQ. He really WAS being accused for stuff he didn't do. Not because he was young and immature, not because his parents were harsh on him and preferred XF, but because XF set him up. Like that whole cat arc. That's what definitely made me realise they were suddenly rushing it like they didn't have time. We didn't get any answers really. I had my suspicions that maybe XF killed the cat (by accident or maybe not) to blmae WQ but guess we'll never know. But yeah. I was expecting a huge ending of revelations. XF breaking down and telling the mom it was him all these years making WQ look bad. XF finding his "brother", the mom realising it wasnt WQ who killed teh father AND ALSO, justice for the mom's brother who was the villian in all of this. where did he go?
Omg i just finished this series. Why do i feel like the episode count might have been cut down because the story…
omg. that ending tho. wow all the pairings were so cute but the main pairing just became more and more adorable as time went by. and the pool! wow, im so glad they brought it in to end everything, just like how it started everything. How pretty. And the dad's story was super sad. Protecting his son till the end. how tragic. The mom. only typing this now do I realise she never reconciled with WQ properly. I mean they had that talk and she explained why she hated him, and during WQ's therapy session he said "If i were her, I'd hate me too" so maybe that's him forgiving her completely, but they didn't become "mother and son" again. That's too sad. When she finally stroked his hair at the end of her explanation,at the hospital, he looked like a little kid again who just wanted his mom. But maybe there could be a sequel or something, if not, everything ended happily so despite the sad events, it was really a cute ending. I'm like 300% postitive there were meant to be more episodes tho. That bubble scene at the very end, it was wayyy to rushed. I bet it was meant to be the real ending that had its own segment.... I'll have to do some reasearch.
Omg i just finished this series. Why do i feel like the episode count might have been cut down because the story was always paced well but the ending seems like they had to tie up all their loose ends quickly. It was only a tiny bit rushed and everything was covered so I applaud them if they did have to cut it down. Does anyone know if it was meant to have more episodes then 30?
QUESTION:In Ep. 23:So, we then had the kiss in the rain scene with WQ. I don't understand why ZS said that WQ…
i can't remember the scene exactly, so i might be totally wrong, but I think that might have to do a bit with the way the translation was interpreted. She probably did say "why do you bully me?" in chinese, but I think she's saying in a way: "why do you always mess with me?" and what she means by that is like, acting like he likes her sometimes (kissing her randomly, doing nice things, being possesive, etc.) and then acting like he hates her or manipulating her. Just overall being confusing and playing with her emotions, in other words "bullying her". Then he regrets being so all over the place and tells her sorry and that he won't "bully her" anymore, and from then on in the series he no longer acts like a psycho with moodswings. so yeah XD just my interpretation. it might be wrong XD but it was a very touching scene in my opinion. WQ finally realising he shouldnt treat people's feelings like a game and regretting everything. in other words, character development lol.
I don't think it's an adaption. It usually mentions it in the description, and i've seen the korean version of…
wow, i never thought to wonder what's in that letter. But that's gotta be super important to the storyline. Now i'm curious too haha (im up to ep 25). Omg, it so cliche but the sleeping arrangements were super adorable. The best part was when she yelled at him to "get up!" like a typical no-BS girlfriend LOL.
I never intended to watch all of the works of a specific actor but i've somehow ended up seeing everything park hyungsik breathes in. lol

After the male lead stopped being manipulative and mean (which I will just attain to his desperation to cure his illness. He's had no progress for years until our FL appears) I really like his personality. His "experiments" were out of line, no decent human would do that to another person. But he's not a normal person. He definitely has serious mental health and social issues, obviously favoured less over the adopted child, suffers PTSD, is blamed for the death of his father, by his mother at that... yikes, the more I type... the writers were surely out to get him (omg, and i didn't even mention his allergy to humans lol). His life really is quite a tragedy. I think his character almost suffers too much, like they just tried to make him as pitiful as possible, but it works lol. he's definitely someone i feel super sorry for and luckily, once he actually opens up... he's a really good person and perfect for our sweet FL. He's very responsible. Runs his own company and is great at it. Looks after his employees, stays out of fights and handles them so no one gets hurt. Still wants to make his mom happy by leaving her the art museum etc. instead of getting fed up with her BS and seeking revenge or something. Puts his everything into helping the FL, not only telling her how to solve her problems, but making her stronger so she can do it herself. Making sure she doesn't regret anything like her letter confession. I feel like he's way more mature then her in some ways, which could be cause he's older. But he's a bit like her guiding light who watches over her and knows more about the world. And of course he needs her for the things he lacks as well. He's not without fault, and he's still quite mean to xiaofei, but i think he'll get better with time. anyway, just my 2 cents on WQ

Ohhh, so he's in I'll never let you go. I was thinking of watching that but i'm always weary of episode count. Also I've seen the FL in In time with you and It started with a kiss and I see her as those characters so strongly I don't think I can watch any of her other shows.
I too check regularly when this show updates XD I didn't think I'd be anticipating future episodes. I'm actually finding all the characters quite endearing at the moment, even the FL who I didn't like at first for being the typical airhead who makes herself suffer for no reason. Once they fleshed the character out, i quite like her personality. I don't know if this is a spoiler or not but:

lol, i think you said it better then how i could. The beginning had some crazy moments (in terms of plot, common sense, character motives, even acting ability) where i just wondered what they were even trying to achieve. I had always found the side characters interesting, but somewhere down the road I started caring for the mains too. In later episodes the plot also decided to develop itself instead of grasping for any trope you've seen a million times, and low and behold, it tells a really nice story. If only they'd done this from the beginning instead of getting caught up in cliche gimmicks. . Also is it just me, or did the actual filming quality and ost get better as time went? anyway, I'm surprised I made it past the beginning, but I'm glad I did. Now all we need is for the drama to end well.
I don't think I've seen any of zhang vin's works, though i agree they look pretty similar.
This sounds a lot like Rich Man Poor Woman (japan) and adaptation Rich Man (Korea)), except for the disease is…
I don't think it's an adaption. It usually mentions it in the description, and i've seen the korean version of rich man and never thought to compare them, but I can see some of their similarities (but stories like this all have similar settings/plots anyway lol) . the main guy actually reminded me way more of I am not a robot (kdrama) because at first his situation is eerily similar to the ML. I'd rather put this drama into the category of typical poor girl vs rich ceo guy story. I found it so cliche at first. like the most textbook of textbook idol drama, and was going to give it up, but once it got into the actual plot (and stopped the tropes) Im finding the characters quite multilayered, the relationships quite interesting and even some of the plot quite remarkable. (there was even a plot twist i didnt see coming and and i felt a bit insulted that an idol drama managed to pull one over on me) anyway, to me it seems like a well-written and interesting story that somehow got trapped into a very cliche idol drama. If you can look past its rough beginning (and some cringe scenes that i just ignore in my mind haha), i think you'd find a very cute drama with interesting characters. But just to summarise it's still an idol drama lol, and prone to all the things that come with one.
QUESTION 1: In Ep. 21, what names or words are written on the stick Wei Qing uses to teach Zhou Shi? He says it's…
I'm not chinese so correct me if im wrong, but to answer Q1, the other name on the other side of the stick is xiaofeis name. As we all know, Wei Qing doesn't really like acknowledging that xiaofei is more or less his adopted brother, which is why he didn't want to talk about it. This is also my own personal spin on it, but Wei Qing might've been irritated when xiaofei and the stick were mentioned, because as we know, Wei Qing has probably been disciplined a lot by it, whereas his parents adored xiaofei and so i doubt they ever actually used the stick on him.
As for the Q2, i'm a bit confused too. I think it's just a room where he keeps his father's paintings. Maybe the first painting she saw only had the last name so she just assumed it was WQ but then she saw another one with his father's name??? i'm confused too. At first i thought it was the crime scene of his father's death which is why he wanted her to get out and not touch anything lol. He also supposedly doesn't paint anymore, so if he DID still paint, then it'd makes sense he does it in a secret room where no one knows. idek. I guess we'll find out. I've only watched up to ep 21.
If you're sick of cliche chinese dramas, this is why you MUST watch this: (I already wrote a review, if you want to read more in depth)
- the FEMALE LEAD isn't annoying (acts her age, likeable, good to her friends, a bit quirky) - the MALE LEAD isn't a jerk (actually a good king, not emotionless, surpisingly very kindhearted) - ROMANCE is adorable, well developed (builds over time, they're actually friends, king sort of gets friendzoned too LOL) - its a PALACE DRAMA with barely any politics (interesting subplots, well structured storyline, the harem gets along) - female characters are BFFs (consorts do not want to KILL each other, except for the actual villain, but everyone else gets along like a family - SIDE CHARACTERS are very cute, have their own little plots at the beginning of the show. later it focuses on the main leads and their love story - COMEDY is unexpected, i find it very funny
A very special and lovely drama. I hope it'll get fully subbed soon. EP 13 was recently subbed on youtube for anyone waiting for it.
