Wow, I really enjoyed this right till the end. Way better then some other youth dramas I've seen. This needs to be on viki or something to gain recognition.
HAHAHAH your comment literally made my day. I can relate on every level. You should have written your own review…
ahaha thanks and looking back at what i'd written, sorry if my grammar made your eyes bleed XD Well, I usually just comment on shows rather then reviewing them cause I have nothing to say (except for irrelevant random shit that I still feel the need to release onto the internet lol) but unless it was the worst thing ever and i need to vent or if it's a really underrated show i generally dont, but I defs will if i have something to say haha. I watch a lot of dramas anyway (too much) so you can probs find my opinion on most drama pages XD But that's a good idea to look at other people's reviews so I tried to see if we'd watched any similar shows, and I can also say that General and I was my first long costume drama and I wish it wasn't because I somehow watched like 90% of it. ANd the regret lol.
HAHAHAH your comment literally made my day. I can relate on every level. You should have written your own review…
Lol, maybe for most people, cdramaland has started unconciously melting their brains and now they think all these horribly authoritative lines are "cute". Now, there is definitely a way in which more demanding "cool" lines can be said that are actually ok and cute and heart-fluttering, and i feel that's what they were going for, but it didn't work and instead felt like he was literally drawing up his life and decided he needed a girl to complete his life plan so he found the perfect candidite (because she's popular and pretty and also perfect) and add her to his inventory. And don't nobody say its just his personality, because i literally just watched PYHOMS and the main guy is equally quite robotic, emotionless, too smart for his own good but sweet and a nice person at the same time, and XN is meant to be like that as well, but how XN is seen as a "nice and sweet person" is literally beyond me.
I didn't really want to write a mean review cause i doubt i could do it without bashing the show and just being negative, which is why i instead replied to a comment that shared my opinion. It's more fun this way anyway with people who share my view. But maybe i should for world peace, to better the community and to perhaps save anyone from idolising this type of relationship which is just a big NO NO NO NO. Don't be swooned by someone demading and controlling or treating you like a dog and that "she's just a small part of your life, while i'm your everything" line, like I legit choked when he said that in the show *cue warning bells*. Girl. run fast. I legit can't believe that was an actual line in a drama people say is the "ideal relationship". I'd be less mad about this (cause all cdramas have some ????? moments) if this show wasn't literally known for being the "perfect relationship". Also, the fact the girl knows she's being treated like a dog and likes it is equal parts ???. It'd be better if she wasn't aware of it, rather then knowing and being perfectly fine being his little trophy woman.
the female lead was stated as a strong female but then never acted like one. cdramas do this all the time, they just make the side characters state a character's personality in their dialogue, but then that character never acts it out so its like, where are these opinions of their personalites coming from when they never act like that and don't posess these traits? Also the FL was so bland I've tasted water with more flavour. It was like she had negative amounts of personality, which is as much personality as the ML has, and he's a robot!
Like, that "shes only a small part of your life" (even by kdrama standards) is the line that gets an instant slap and an instant break up. It's the, time-to-realise-im-a-jerk scene. I'm confused because XN acts the exact same as a mean ceo but instead of being acknowled as being mean, arrogant, unlikeable and needing to change, everyone loves him??? also the fl leads affection for him is so superficial and fanlike and it made every interaction of theirs so gross to watch. Everytime he did something for her she acted blessed by his presence. This caused me to even hate his harmless "master" nickname, becasue he really ended up being her master.
What strikes me the most about this drama is not the drama itself, but why people love it so much? any other drama with these qualities gets bashed so much and we all join forces to write how shit it is, but what i cant understand is why THIS specfic drama is so loved, when it's the exactly the same as every other shitty drama.
Anyway, I'll put loveO2O behind me and look to a brighter drama-future lol. thanks for sharing my sentiments, I hope you too, never run into a show like this again XD I'll pray for our eyes. haha
am i the only one who gets like, early 2000 american romcom vibes from this? I love it. Taiwan dramas are either super cheesy or have this really nice realistic vibe to them that i really adore. I loved the first ep. This is definitely different to any recent dramas i've seen and the leads really work well together. I also like that they're a little messed up personality wise. The main characters of a show don't always have to be nice decent people , its all about telling someone's story. I feel the character growth will be strong in this one. Also, wow. I adore puff's acting. She's so good at acting natural it was so refreshing watching her act like someone her actual age instead of the usual forever 12 FL. I messed up by watching this before it finished. I shall join the "I shouldn't have started this when there's only one ep out" club.
you have no idea how hard i laughed reading this. Btw, the reason I watched more then one ep of this drama was to see if the male lead would slip up once, so after 30hrs of my life wasted, I'd have to correct you on his one flaw of cooking. He once called her "wife" irl by accident. that's it. So make that 2 flaws. Anyway, this had been in my to-watch list for ages, marked as "the legendary drama that everyone raves about" and now that its finally over and i'm left with 5 brain cells to try and comprehend wth I just watched, I'd just like to thank you for processing everything i hated about the show for me and writing it down in nicely worded paragraphs.
I just can't even understand when the two leads even became friends? Like, from the very beginning the FL only agreed to go out with him because he was the male god on campus, (and teamed up with him cause he was no. 1 in the game) then i was waiting for her to get to know his personality and actually fall for him and realise he's more then just the "campus idol" but that never came because.... I guess he actually doesn't have a personality to shine through his perfect exterior???? and she's actually just super shallow??????????? idk. i'm so confused. Like, what even was that, they were together way before I realised they were together, and they did it again with their engagement. I am all for the cheeky "yes, i just called you my wife so you may as well actually be my wife sucks to suck, girlfriend-who-knows-me-better-then-anyone-else-who-knows-im-joking-around" (yes. that. lol) but this was not it, chief. Like, did they ever even have one decent conversation (which is weird af cause this show was 80% dialogue but ok). The only small thing i was looking forward to was his bros revealing that he's not actually the 3rd bro, but the youngest, which would've been cute (and perhaps made him stumble???) but it didn;t even happen. (or did it? I watched the last couple episodes on like 2x speed; first time doing that with a video that's not a uni lecture). Their relationship just came from no where and lacks all substance and it fails before it starts because before even judging their dynamic, the two character's personalities lack so much dimension I made it a game to count the number of times they acted human instead of focusing on whatever the plot was doing. But if the main characters had no souls, their friends were even worse. Yes, typically the side characters tend to revolve around the mains (unless it's extremely well written, but this is cdrama we're talking about) but the obviousness of how their friends fawned over the two leads and only cared about their issues was just so annoying. Like, did they pay these people to be their friends or something? I won't even talk about how females were represented in this show, expect to say they obviously can't exist in the loveo2o universe without being alarmingly obsessed with XN. Even the FL cannot escape this rule, so even though she knows him the most and is meant to be his equal, his partner in life, she still looks at him look a god and fangirls in her mind or sometimes obviously while he's talking to her like wut, Which i just found the most disturbing. (or was I more disturbed that usually if that happens in a drama, the ML is like "im not a god. I'm a real person with scars too *pause for dramatic effect* can't you be the only one to see my true self~~~~~~ and love me. for me" and they work it out and the ML works at being secure in being his real self, but XN was totallllyyyyyyyy fine with being above everyone else, so like ok) WOw, did not mean to write this much, but I guess like you, this drama just makes me want to pour bleach into my eyes, throw my laptop off the 5th storey and actually do my homework for once instead of procrastinating with watching cdrama.
I've read the lead actress was quite sick was filming this. She looks healthier in other shows she has done. I…
This post is like a year old but I just had to respond because omg, the groupies that hold signs and fangirl that exist in every kdrama and cdrama: how did this even become a thing? It's like a disease that can be applied to any dramaland profession. I didn't even know people could be so interested in other people's lives, especially when they're not even celebrities, and just normal ceos, authors, university students, etc. Like, dramas have a problem where the main guy HAS to be the male god of the town/club/school/workplace that's desired by all and worshipped by every cringey female extra without restraint (even tho that whole scenario would never happen in real life. Like, you won't even find that level of infatuation in the deepest of kpop fandoms), but god forbid he be a normal person that's not worshipped 24/7, because if he's not wanted by EVERYONE, then is he really attractive? *drama logic*
It's this weird "making him desirable" thing that they try to do, and the cringey groupies that are always around holding signs at the inevitable basketball games, getting their cakes rejected or whatveer, is just the funniest most bizarre thing to me . They have no souls (and no sense of shame apparently) and only purpose is to be rejected by yangyang lol. Anyway, conclusion: if anyone has seen someone make a neon sign for the hottest guy in school, please share, because I'd love to hear.
omg, so glad they introduced that daughter of the doctor who pretty much rescued everyone in flower palace with her antidote stuff. She saved my last brain cell from the FL and XT who i liked at the beginning but is slowly taking the inevitable crazy-lady path that every supporting female lead must end up in as per cdrama law. huhhhhhh. The new girl is promising so hopefully she continues to be a good character. Her interactions with Nan chu are cute as well. Will she be his love interest? Then they can join Zi mo and Huang Quan as the only CP that matters haha.
Agree! Trying so hard to root for our OTP but the actions of the FL is just so frustrating and confusing! I can…
characters that usually charge ahead and play the noble hero like her are those that at least have skills good enough to be arrogant about. like, yes the other characters might get annoyed because they're always out of the loop, but at least they can't deny that character's power or intelligence, especially when their plan pulls through. But this FL has no skills nor a brain and her plans NEVER work out and everyone has to save her and ends up dying. Like, they really do water-down her character if it's different from the book, and it really does make you think, why on earth does XYQ even like her???? He seems to like her for the reasons his book-self likes her book-self, but her drama-self has none of those qualities, so you get this weird script where the ML likes the FL for being strong, tenacious, caring etc. but she actually has none of those qualities, and its so weird to watch, like from the viewers perspective, where is the ML seeing these sides of the FL that we cannot see? It'd make more sense in the drama if he loved her because he pitied her lol because their only interaction is him saving her.
This premise is as cliche as cliche gets but I've never seen it done in such a light easy to watch drama without all the angst, and as I watched more episodes I realised the dialogues between all the characters are really well done and intelligent and both the leads have interesting perspectives on things, there were lots of little plot twists that I didn't expect as well where I expected it to do the typical trope and then it did something different. I also REALLY like how they handle the age gap, like it's not done weirdly. Anyway, recommend this drama to anyone who wants to watch something short and cute to pass the time.
All I can say is if you can get through the first couple episodes that may go a bit overboard in being preachy, dramatic, tragic backstories ahoy! etc. you'll come across a drama that quickly rose to one of my favourites, it's like the story calms down from trying to be something its not and then starts creating these moving and beautiful stories that are extremely thought-provoking and REAL, ones that should've been shown right from the start. I find this drama is definitely a commentary on humanity, and all sides of it, especially the ignored or forgotten sides. I'd start an episode with my own concrete opinion and end up being confused as to whether I was thinking "right" all along. I love the male lead, because he has the most pride and the strongest of opinions, but is also willing to change his perspective through trial and error once he realises he was wrong. His character development is such a joy to watch,. I liked that sometimes he isn't swayed by others opinions and sometimes regrets his decisions after. The quotes and poetry weaved into each episode really enhances the motif of the show, and adding that with the very pretty osts, I found each episode more and more breathtaking.
I loved the bridge scene. It was so pretty and sad and done so well and it was acted out really nicely that I couldn't help but feel so sorry for her as she talked about her self to the phone box.
wow i loved the soundtrack of this. also all the characters are adorable and likeable. The love triangle makes my heart hurt because for once in my life, both of the guys are so lovable and you want them both to be happy. Also the side couple is adorable. Am i the only one who loves how it doesn't drag and it's edited and shot very well. It's such a nice and short show to watch. Can't wait for season 2.
Wow, i loved all the characters. For once i didn't hate the FL and I adored the personalities of each member of SOUL. I liked the leader: embarrassing "loser" type who acts tough but is actually quite soft-hearted lol, the cute maknae who was the typical emo highschooler and the centre star who wished people would see beyond his good looks and of course our ML who was sooooo refreshing as a character in every way. The editing and cinematography was really good and the acting was great and the storyline wasn't cliche, plus it's the perfect length to binge watch.
totally agree with his personality. it was nice to see how his personality was consistent throughout and he didn't…
yes, his dorkiness was his most endearing feature, he reminded me of Jim carrey at times lol I also liked how he wasn't too strung up on looking manly or cool and wasn't embarrassed to do silly things because he was too proud or whatever. He was a great character XD
There are other taiwanese dramas with similar stories and work enviornment yet, usually they are too long, have…
totally agree with his personality. it was nice to see how his personality was consistent throughout and he didn't suddenly turn into the mean arrogant ceo lol. You can still be a competent and confident boss without being a jerk ahemmmmmmmm dramaland, it was pretty refreshing.
reading the comments for this drama again, i've come to realise what makes me like LCY is he's somehow effortlessly boyish and then impeccably ruthless and calculating all at the same time. it shouldn't work but it does haha. so great.
