I agree with you, the romance is slow but worthwile. They have a connection deeper than just romantic. ML give QY what QX could never.

I think the main difference for us viewers is the attitude of the FL towards the ML. In the novel she does all these things to brin Mr Rong's businnesses down but still stay with the ML and they work together, even though she works with 2ML too. And that wasn't a problem, on the contrary. I was rooting for them. But the problem here is, they changed this part of the story, they separated the FL and ML and now she looks bad working with the 2ML. If they had kept the same script as in the novel, that would have been more satisfying since the ML, FL and 2ML are all in the same boat.

And it was such a lazy writing.

He getting shot and going away to study does happen in the novel as well. So my guess is that the ending will be the same as in the novel.. so no memory lost

In the novel that’s not the case at all. Once they got together, they stayed together until the end. Once she got back from Peking, they even met and shared sweet moments. Even after she discovered the whole truth. We could guess 2ML had feelings for her but nothing ever happened. I am bit disappointed they changed this part in the drama 😞
In the novel, Shiori end up chasing 2ML because he looks richer than ML, they even slept together and she gives up on ML altogether but 2ML was just playing her so there was never a kidnapping scene.
I guess they wanted to add unnecessary drama 😩

I think it will be QM based on the trailer but that might be a problem down the line since she is not a virgin anymore (the pearl fairy is supposed to be a virgin if I understood correctly) ... so maybe the emperor will find out he had been played later on

I recall in the novel a scene where we can guess that 2ML has feelings for the FL but she never reciprocated. In the novel, the ML and FL still stayed together, and were very much in love despite the revenge. It's a bit disappointing to see them take this road but let's see how it goes.
