I agree with you, I don't see much comparison with Ming Lan, only that they are both smarts. Other than that, the story is totally different. Their personalities are different too : Ming Lan had to hide her intelligence and act submissive until she had no choice but fight back while QY doesn't take anyone's shit from the get go. But I love both !

I agree with you about the leads but I think differently about QX. He does love the FL and did prove it. Comparing him to the ML is not really fair since the ML has power, skills and can make his own decisions when it comes to his marriage. QX is the second son (so no title), doesn't have a job (so no power) and doesn't have any fighting skills. But he did what he could within his capacity to help/protect the FL. First, he helped her solve the two previous case (He Family and the money thief case) as best as he could, at least he accompanied her. Second, being self-conscious, he planned to enroll in the military or something so he can have more power and thus decide on his marriage. Third, he gave her gifts taking into account the FL's preferences (a simple but precious hairpin, the books, the library). QX can't do most of the things the ML can do for the FL but I don't think he is all talk and no actions at the end of the day. I think they do fit together and if it was not for the Qiu Family case, these two characters could have had a really good and peaceful life.

He is not supposed to die based on the novel, but they are changing things in the drama so who knows 🤷🏽‍♀️

Keep watching it, you might like it. I didn’t like the ML’s acting at fist but the plot was interesting enough for me to get going and I am happy I did because it ended up being good!

I read all your comments and I think that at this point you are not comparing Ming Lan to Qiu Yan, you are just pouring out your hate for the actress ZLY. I think a platform like Twitter is a better place for you to do that because MDL is definitely not. Everyone can express themselves about dramas on here but you seem to only want to talk about the ZLY's personal life.

I loved The Story of Ming Lan but don't care at all about the actress herself. I didn't even know her before that drama and haven't watched any of her other works. So many people loved The Story of Ming Lan but you seem to think they are only the actress's fans, which IMO is not necessarily the case. Many people didn't love it either and that's ok, it cannot be everybody's cup of tea.

I love TAB too so far. Both, Qiu Yan and Ming Lan are portrayed as smart. But I find Qiu Yan to be more extrovert and Ming Lan to be more introvert. Each have their own way of dealing with things. When it comes to the story, it's completely different. IMO both are good in their own ways.

We happened to compare Qiu Yan with Ming Lan but we could compare her to Wei Yingluo of Story of Yanxi Palace or Jun Jiu Ling in the drama of the same name. The stories are different, but the spirit is the same : we love intelligent female leads. If you think Ming Lan was stupid, that's your opinion and you have every right to think so and even express yourself about it. But you shouldn't be rude to others and talk about things unrelated to the drama. You are really out of line for this.

In that case I hope it will be better than in the novel. At least I see the Japanese girl might get some karma about her role in her brother's death, which was not in the novel. I think I will wait for the drama to end to make sure it's an happy ending 😅

On episode 37 and 38 trailers we see the FL hands in hands with the SML and also she was kidnapped. I haven’t read that part in the novel, or maybe I missed it. Is it an addition to the script ? I am asking because I see that the ending is similar to the novel, but only that part is not following the original work.

Well the SML will help about finding out the truth about the FL's past and help her get justice/revenge. She has no ambiguous relationship with the SML. FL and ML will still be in a good relationship. At least in the novel. I hope that helps you decide ☺️

Long story short, ML went to study while FL and her family went to the countryside for a while. They were in a long distance relationship, then FL joined him.

They are actually way less lovey dovey than in the novel, I don’t know why 🧐
