It depends on our pov. For me, LLH grow alot. His physique and mental were severely wounded and fell into deep depression. But he didnt commit suicide, he accepted his reality and chose to move on with a new way of life while still giving impact/help others as a doctor. He let go not only his past, but also his character was changed 180 degrees, he turned hate into forgiveness, he even forgave SGD and not directly killed him.
For the styx flower, if we were in his situation, are we still able to use it for our own benefit and let the king die, country in chaos, or the risk that our friends will be killed by the emperor? Is there any other option? π

Yes MDL certainly has updated their algo from time to time, and there are a lot of factors involved, for example number of new watchers, reviewers, etc.
We need to see these all factors in dramas that got 9.1 to know why NIF drop its ranking.
I simply talk about MLC age group rating statistic (not other dramas), which shows we may need more raters for 33-45 and 65+ age group, because maybe MDL has algo of average rating taken from age group.
We dont have to compare dramas who get 9, each shines in its own way and its own theme.
NIF shines in political theme, Hidden Love in young romance, while MLC (in my opinion) is in light comedic friendship and life lessons that reach wider range of audience/age π

Its open ending. But yes the vibe is sad. Personally i regard as happy one because in the end, LLH had settled many things. He forgave, guard his friends, kept the country peace, helped a lot of people by being a doctor, pass on his sword skill to FDB, turn DFS from villain into a good friend/person, etc.
He also had enlightened and lived a simple carefree life for 10 years. Now he went away to live in seclusion/peaceful way as he wished. I would say his life already contented βΊοΈ

While other wuxia tend to have revenge theme, MLC is about forgiveness, letting go and accept our current condition by adjusting goal, way of life, etc. LLH even turn DFS into a cutie man and LLH friend π
