Nah, the princess didn't ruined anything, his plan from when his father died was to avenge him as he promised, he tried so hard to study but he had no money so he used XFF as a coin exchange, he approached the princess in purpose to make himself noticed and have her favor him so he could climb the ranks and put his revenge plan in action.
OMG help I started to sympathize with the princess... that woman went through a lot, if I were in her place I would also become a hateful bitch. I need to recheck the episodes, I don't have the exact sequence in mind right now, but his plan on revenge started soon after his father died when he was a kid, he promised to revenge him and ever since every step he took was with this revenge in mind. He grew up brooding hatred, his mother poured hate into his brain daily and reminded him constantly to never forget, he used his wife for the same purpose and when he noticed the Princess had a crush on him he approached her in the same purpose to let her court him so he can put his plan in action. He is an evil revengeful mastermind, and more on his revenge plot is yet to come. The true definition of a psychopath.

I've seen way too often dramas disappearing from the main home page of MDL during airing time due to these minor changes. It's not worth it imo, more people are seeing it on the top chart of airing dramas/trending dramas the better.
