The reason I said that is because LRF had always known that the emperor wants him out of the way but it's not just about his presence in court, but also his influence. The emperor doesn't want him to have any link or influence to the court, no power of any form, and that's what he did not succeed to get, it's much more of a stalemate with everyone happy with the surface result.
Of course Fan Xian is the son of the emperor, but not everything the does is for Fan Xian.
To put it simply, the emperor does everything to make sure he can control everyone.

This is the second time Lin Rou Fu is seemingly getting the better of the emperor in a dialogue... that scene was great.
The emperor had to concede and end the discussion suddenly because he was beginning to lose ground added to the fact that he didn't get what he wanted.

JOL is a breath of fresh air, can't wait for next two episodes .

The emperor has something to do with his mother's death for sure... what I'm not sure about is if Chen ping ping knows about it, but I know for sure that he suspects the emperor and I believe the emperor has been guarding himself from Chen ping ping... I guess that's why Chen ping ping is too careful with the emperor and allows him to get his way in order to avoid suspicion.

I watched episode 20 yesterday and JOL proved to me again why it's the master of scheming plots, the last 10 to 15 minutes where so coded that I had to watch it 3 times to understand the emperor's intentions of lamenting in front of Fan Xian....Fan Xian took a very big bait laid by the emperor and Chen ping ping that will force him to investigate his father-in-law.
He only allowed Fan Xian to use him as bait because he also wanted to use him as bait in return.
WHO NOTICED THE SMIRK SMILE ON HIS FACE WHEN FAN XIAN ACCEPTED TO INVESTIGATE?😅
