I watched it twice and still donβt get it. (Ep3)
Here's the thing, Gong Dian had been very close with the crown prince (which is not a good thing for an emperor's bodyguard) and it would be normal for him to do something against Fan Xian as he arrived the capital to ridicule or kill him in order to please the crown prince like the women who were arrange to stop Fan xian's carriage before the soldiers killed them. That outing that day was a trap the emperor had set for Gong Dian and a warning, to see were his loyalty is, if he'll want to do a favour for the crown prince, or even go as far as killing the emperor. The emperor had left all the arrangements for that outing to Gong Dian but had made other preparations should his suspicions be right (remember the troops that came towards them as they were discussing?). The Key statement that revealed the emperor's intentions was "YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE AND MAKE FRIENDS WITH WHO YOU WANT, WHERE'S THE CRIME IN THAT?"The friend in that statement refers to the crown prince. That's when Gong Dian realized what had just happened that day.
I hope season 2 is as rich or even richer in the dialogues than in season 1 because I enjoyed the dialogues, especially those involving the emperor. I had to watch season 1 twice because it was so good. In the second time of watching I came to fully grasp the main point of certain discussions, for example: *The emperor's chat with Gong Dian on the street (ep 3) *Mei Zhi Li saying wrong things to the emperor in the study (ep 9 I guess) * Li Yunrui mixing up her words in front of Chen ping ping and the emperor (ep 29)
The new trailer looks great, watched it a million times already. Something tells me season 2 will be more humourous and more serious at the same time than in season 1. This will mean that the episodes are just going to fly pass without you noticing. I really hope we get 40 episodes, 10 episodes for each year we've waitedπ
Don't worry, take your time and enjoy it, it's absolutely brilliant...we could chat on each episode you finish…
One thing I noticed about the character of the emperor in this drama is that you have to be very attentive and read between the lines when he's talking because he's never speaks straight, he'll always say things in a way that hides his intentions and leave it to the understanding and interpretation of the other party. A good example was the conversation he had with Commander Gong dian in episode 3 on the streets. When you watch that scene carefully and also take note of what Gong dian told the crown prince, you'll find out that the outing that day was big trap for Gong dian, to test his loyalty...did you ever ask yourself why those other troops arrived at that scene on the streets?

About the emperor though, I think you're talking about how he dealt with Mei Zhili, honestly I understand why he did that...and I realized it the second time I watched that scene of the emperor and Mei Zhili when I was going through the drama again. Mei Zhili made many errors that day, and said some wrong things that made the emperor justified in his decision. One example, he himself realized he had made a big mistake the moment the emperor drunk the wine he thought was poisoned... that was a direct insult to the emperor. Take note of the things he said to the emperor about how he became the capital justice.

Nice, you're still in the honeymoon stage of the drama (for me the first 14 episodes is the the honeymoon phase where everyone is happy and all is calm), but you're hitting good points about the Fan household and the missed encounters (it also frustrated me a little until they finally found each other). You're right about Liu Ruyu as well, I thought it was just going to be the usual case of the step mother being very unreasonable, so I found it refreshing that it wasn't the case.

I haven't finished the novel yet, but I was told he is Si Gujian's junior brother
Ok, but I'm not sure if I'd have completed before the season 2 is released... maybe I'll just give you details on any big happenings after every hundred. I'm currently above 340 chapters, though I stopped reading for a while.
