The reaction to fan Xian's identity being exposed is actually accurate with the novel.
It only confirmed some people's suspicions and made princess Li Yun Rui lose her head.
There are only two other reactions that didn't appear on screen...
1. In the capital people talked about how fan Xian was as gifted and knowledgeable like the emperor, making it sensible that he's actually the emperor's son
2. The great prince's mother called him to her palace and told him to be nice to fan Xian because fan Xian's mother was the only person who had a great relationship with her back in the day... hence the great prince becoming so friendly with fan Xian out of a sudden as you watch season 2

I guess we're in for a two part season in season 3 because season 1 and 2 covers just half of the novel around chapter 360 to 400.
And I suspect with the 40 episodes limit in china that it'll be difficult to compress more than the 300 chapters left in 40 episodes.

I had always suspected since February that this drama would air this month like JOL did last year...
Hopefully I get to watch another historical political drama in May next year

I would have said the same but I noticed that a drama of 2016 recently aired last September (that's 8 years), with 60 episodes.
I guess if a drama was made before the new format was established then it'll be allowed... the drama is 'braveness of the ming'

Fan Jian cares so much about Fan Xian more than the other fathers because he lost more for the sake of Fan Xian... Fan Xian was exchanged with Fan Jian's new born son by Fan Jian's wife in order for Ye Qing Mei to escape with Fan Xian.
It's also the reason Fan Jian's wife died.

You're right but don't give up, there are 4 good fight scenes that should be coming up according to the novel.
Wu Zhu has to fight and kill that serial killer robot
Fan Xian has to fight with Xie Bi An
Fan Xian will also fight shadow during the assassination and almost dies
Wu Zhu will fight Yun Zhi Lan in Jiangnan

I'm also happy with the fact that they've maintained the soul of the novel while making some certain changes....if I'm not being too thorough I might not notice the changes, everything just blends well in the end

You're right, and the only problem the emperor has is that the prime is retired but can still influence court proceedings through his aides that may be in favour of Fan Xian.

The emperor wants Fan Xian to see him as his only defense then it'll be easier to control him. So he needs LRF to be completely powerless, not just retired... even if LRF drops dead now, the emperor won't be satisfied untill there's nobody in the court who submits to LRF who might help Fan Xian for LRF sake.
