Hey why are you guys always comparing cutiepie with badbuddy. Bbs is a romcom drama and also cutiepie. Its not…
I am not going to debate about Bad Buddy vs A Tale of Thousand Stars. A lot of people, myself included, are actually saying that Bad Buddy is better in many aspects than ATOTS. Well, it's always subjective, but saying that ATOTS has way better plot than Bad Buddy is itself a conjecture and based on personal preference.
For those who didn't know about this series yet, The Miracle of Teddy Bear is airing this weekend (while Cutie Pie and KinnPorsche aren't due to Songkran).
EP 8, 9 and 10 will be airing on Friday, Saturday and Sunday respectively, at about just before midnight in Singapore (UTC + 8h). That's a total of 4.5 hours worth of story to watch.
Highly recommended to watch. It has been very much being underrated and lacking in hype compared to Cutie Pie and KinnPorsche. (But international Eng sub release in CH3 YouTube is likely in May!)

The same applies to Bad Buddy as well. Pat and Pran are perfectly nailed by their actors, (and to me and many of us) more so than the Cutie Pie's characters. But again, this can be subjective. Nonetheless, based on overall comments in different platforms, at the moment, I would say Pat and Pran are universally better in characterisation, relationship and more.
I am not comparing for no reason. It is because some people may be bound to say that a series is better simply because it garners so many views, without assessing the overall quality and the story.
Cutie Pie EP 8 has just surpassed Bad Buddy EP 8 in views in YouTube (:(
Cutie Pie EP 8 - 12,477,000 Bad Buddy EP 8 - 12,433,000
(Cutie Pie is about to pass 100 million cumulative probably by later today, it is at 99.5 million now. Our current count is approaching 164 million in the meantime. Note that ours do not include WeTV count)
Again, as I mentioned before, quantity of viewers does not determine the quality of the series. Just like 2gether, people somehow like to watch it a lot, even if the series is not as good as Bad Buddy.
(Note: I don't really want to compare, but just to make a point here. Some people will be bound, in the coming days to say that Cutie Pie is better than Bad Buddy because it has more viewers)
I would like to thank @jpny01 for an earlier comment that help me to summarise further what I have shared earlier on Nut and his character.
There is a difference between bad behaviour and romanticising bad behaviour. In series that are considered as toxic, the bad behaviours are often romanticised (especially MAME's works). The Miracle of Teddy Bear has repeatedly and consistently showed that the people around Nut are not ok with his bad behaviour and they told him off in their own ways, even the mother (and increasingly, Tofu).
(Everyone has their flaws, some more apparent than others. This series' representation of flawed human beings in each of the characters involved, the couples, the families, and even friends and others had been amazing so far)
Then, the cancel culture, which I realise also seep in into even the imaginary world in our drama and not just affecting the real world. When a person does something that we find wrong and we disagree with, it is quick for us to cancel that person and heap up arguments to drown that person (and character in the series, like Nut) in accusation and in painting him as irredeemable, terrible and even devil-like, without giving the chance for the person to find the path to redemption.
(Is Nut a bad person? No. Honestly, many times we have seen throughout the seven episodes that he is actually a caring and nice person, but with hurt and trauma that made him had his outbursts. Does he want to remain in that state? Obviously he does not. He wants to become better too. And yet, quite a few among us chose to forget about all that and focus solely on the anger issues he had.)
Lastly, this series is not like your typical BL series. It is firstly a lakorn, with a much longer show time as compared to typical BL series (equivalent of two whole seasons and more). There are a lot of intricate storylines and plots typical of lakorns (with some of the exaggerations, but portrayals have been surprisingly quite real so far), which have been very well fleshed out and shown even with just seven episodes, and with eight or nine more episodes more to go.
There are far too many things that have not been revealed yet, and by the end of EP 7, Nut seems to begin his redemption arc. The contrast between his earlier outbursts and how he develops and changes because of Tofu and others around him is what makes the story beautiful by the time we reach the finale.
The word "toxic" is ued so often the word is nearly meaningless. The closest I can come is "anything humanly flawed".…
Exactly! All that you wrote are precisely what I have thought and shared here too so far. The cancel culture is one sad thing that happens in our world, where people cancel others but ironically, sometimes there's double standard because the same person you cancel may be doing the same thing that you yourself did.
I totally agree on the bad behaviour vs romanticising bad behaviour. This series has repeatedly showed us that the characters, the story and all are not normalising and less still romanticising his attitudes. And they clearly showed that he wanted to get out of them, and many people simply and conveniently overlooked all that.
Just want to say that like The Miracle of Teddy Bear, both airing Cutie Pie and KinnPorsche have a lot of problem here in MDL regarding having a camp on one side intensely disliking the series while there is another camp that defended it to the max and loved it above all else.
In Cutie Pie, the problems are mainly the storyline, the lack of plot and character development (but all these are subjective), and the relationship being toxic as well. In KinnPorsche, the toxic nature of the relationships is intrinsic of the characters and the plot.
I am not surprised therefore that probably people may be comparing these to those apparently similar toxic relationships as well. But I want to highlight that the nature of the 'toxic' relationship in The Miracle of Teddy Bear is not like the other often considered toxic BL series. To me, it's partly a result of the still unexplainable miraculous transformation of Tofu from teddy bear to human, plus unresolved and suppressed inner emotions and feelings, past hurts of Nut. It isn't toxic per se and definitely not intentionally toxic.
This show has also shown clearly that those who are close to Nut are not ok with his behaviour and actions when he had his outbursts, and they, especially Gen, are quick to point this out when Nut did so. But they did not hate him. They cared for him and wanted him to change. They are helping, and we are being shown this progress (and it's going on well in the end of EP 7).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFgcfBycu1wSpoilers from EP 7 in the video above. More in the comment in reply.
Sib, Nut's dad was a very headstrong and determined soldier who was very hard and demanding on his son. He wanted Nut to be a soldier (and implied from earlier teasers, that he disapproved of his gay behaviour and identity - whether he knew it or not, it's not fully known yet)
Nut lived under such a terrible upbringing and environment for his whole childhood right up to his dad's passing (which is probably just at the end of his high school time)
Living under such an angry, temperamental dad, plus the trauma and hardships this dad inflicted on Nut, is little wonder why Nut ended up having similar outbursts as well. Implied from the latest episodes is also that Nut must have had terrible high school experiences beyond being bullied by his schoolmates for being gay and his liking for Neung.
(There is a probability that Nut and Tarn might have been found out, in their kissing each other. Whether they actually dated or not, is not possible to confirm. The fallout from that must have been quite traumatic for Nut, or Tarn might have done something/misunderstanding might have happened that led to Nut being paranoid, especially in anything relating to his first love and high school experiences.)
And yes, that means unfortunately Tofu ticked all of that. It wasn't Tofu's fault of course, he's innocent (as a teddy bear who is learning to be more like human). But, because he intensely reminded Nut of Neung and Tarn both, especially in reawakening those long repressed memories (Nut must have repressed them for that whole 10 years), it might have made Nut to lose control of himself.
Thankfully, what is important is that he has all those people around him to help him, support him and remind him to do what is right, and not to give in to his fears. And that's part of the charm that made me like and enjoying this series so much.

The Miracle of Teddy Bear has never failed so far in intriguing me and many others here with numerous mysteries and twists.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts anyway!

Plus, most of Cutie Pie's thumbnails have been relatively suggestive too, which can be a plus point in attracting viewers.
