Actually what you see are flashbacks, and they are not in right order. The flashbacks are those which suits the episode. SY used to travel to WYF to Beiyu every week and they used to meet at Noodle shop. That is why that shop is so important in their story.
I‘m really struggling with this show, even though I really want to like it. I‘m up to episode 14 right now…
SY didn't planned to move in with WYF. Yeah, he wanted to move in the building but not in her apartment. He only moved in with her when WYF herself allowed him to. SY for the most part is considerate. He is quite realistic in this aspect. He loves WYF, he acknowledges it to himself but not to her. The reason is very simple. He had been open to her about his affection for her but that left him with a broken heart. Now, he is scared so most of the time, he searches for excuses, be it for food or drop and pick. He is a walking green flag, so considerate, loving and understanding even when WYF had hurt him in the past.
These two are completely different from SZ-DJX, so the first thing you need to let go off while watching TFF is comparison between the love stories. SY-WYF had a shared history, SZ-DJX didn't. WYF once broke SY's heart knowingly, DJX never did any such thing.
WYF had gone through a lot so her being apathetic is understandable. Right now, her only goal in life is to just live her life and keep herself safe. She is not a doormat because at times, she stands up for herself. She is just so broken that unless necessary, she don't want to involve herself with negative things. It is more like she is tired of everything happening to her one after other.
This drama is more emotionally involving than HL. But if you are still not enjoying it, I will recommend you to drop it. Maybe it is not the type of genres you prefer. SY is very very honest with his affection. His love is like the most beautiful form of love, one that is incomparable. I have watched all of Zhu Yi's dramas but the standard SY sets, its so heartbreakingly beautiful. Its not easy to love someone who had hurt you but he still did. He chose to love her.

Originally, SZ and SY has a gap of 7 years while SZ and DJX has a gap of 8 years. HL decreased the age-gap of leads while TFF followed the original age-gap. SY-WYF were together before DJX-SZ got together. Infact when DJX proposed SZ, SY was already married by then.
And no, he didn't flew to Yihe for his sister. SZ was still in school at that time. SY opened the bar after his graduation. SZ at that time was in high school.
Its more like a parallel timeline. When SZ was going through her own life problems, SY had his own life problems.
When DJX came to meet SY, it was during SZ's high school.
I have a doubt that who paid yi fan 's college fee as no one was wanting to support her
Acc. to novel, her father left her some money which covered her fees. Before going to college, she flew to her mother, taking whatever her father left for her.
I am surprised how few people noticed it. He came to overtime, looked around desperately as if searching for her and then went upstairs with a sad face.
In Episode 2, Sang Yan searched for Wen Yifan after reaching overtime for new year celebration. Like he half expected her to be there and then ended up disappointed not finding her there. Damn, I missed so many little details. A masterpiece from EP 1 to EP 32.

I have a few more points that I can add. WYF loved SY so much too, cared for him too but as we are woman, we glorify what a man do because that is what we expect ourselves.
Beauty of Wen Yifan's love for Sang Yan:(contain spoilers)
-She didn't need to see Sang Yan's face to realize who the person is. Just a glimpse of his back and she knew it was him. Mind you, she didn't meet him for more than six years. -Even when she was being chased by goons, her first instinct was to make sure Sang Yan was not involved as they might hurt Sang Yan. -Though she fears physical intimacy with men, she herself offered to apply medicine on his wound. Mind you, she could have not bothered. Her responsibility was to buy medicine, not to apply them but she still applied him medicine. Her eyes are teary in that scene, showing how guilty she feels for dragging him and getting him wounded. -Though she was worried about the whole roommate arrangement, she still offered him to sleep in the spare room. It shows how even though she never met him, she still had such strong belief on his character. -When they started living together, SY was kind of aloof and superficially arrogant towards her but she didn't mind any of his words. At times, he didn't even replied her back(the elevator scene in ep 4) but she still used to initiate conversations with him. -When Xiang Lang said that she promised him, she did turned towards Sang Yan, nodding her head in negative. Her eyes held fear. She could have simply not bothered but she did. -She made cold medicine for SY, even when their relationship at that time was not too great. -She knew SY was scared of horror movies but rather than embarrassing him about it, she simply said she might get scared later. -The way she view SY so highly. Like her subconscious self feel safe around him, hence she fell asleep beside him on sofa. She finds comfort in him, even when she didn't met him for so many years, she still had faith in him. -The reason she broke up with him in high school was not selfish. She didn't want to taint him. He was always happy and she was so broken at that time. She didn't want him to suffer because of her. -WYF deciding to pursue SY even when it is not a norm. Woman hesitate but she never did. She accepted in front of everyone that she pursued him, not embarrassed about it at all. -She bought the best coat for SY(SY description in ep 20 meant that the quality of coat is good) even when she don't like spending money on herself at all. -She accepted that she had always loved SY, from high school but she didn't had time to ponder over her feelings because of the way things turned out for her. -She cooked for SY with so much love and dedication, wanting him to feel the warmth of home when he returns from work. -Only when Che Xingde started bullying SY, then WYF decides to leave. until it was her, she didn't decide to go to HK. It was when SY's business suffered that she thought because of her, he will be in danger and she will take distance than anything happening to him. -WYF worrying and crying the whole way to hospital showed how deeply she loved him. She would rather take Che Xingde not suffering than loose SY. She didn't knew the extent of injury SY suffered, so she was very worried. Her dialogue that how she can take anything but not the thought of something happening to him sums it up. -WYF telling SY that she wants to live 6 years more than him. This sums up her love for him. She want to suffer the pain SY suffered without her so as to understand his pain better. Not everyone is courageous enough to say this especially when SY is literally her lifeline at that point of time. -Finally, the way she kept crying when he proposed her, having a huge smile on her face clearly showed how much she too had craved for him. How much she had waited for that moment.
Her love might be forgotten for some time given the problems she had faced, but it was never dead. When the time was right, it came in multiple folds, consuming her completely. WYF might have not showed it, but she too had always loved him.
Love is all about forgiveness. SY chose to forgive her running away to HK because he knew what she had gone through. It was too hard on her. She didn't invalidate his feelings, but her priority was to see him alive than dead. According to WYF, CXD was a monster. He could have done anything to SY so she thought that if she was not in SY's life, he will at least be safe. In no way I am defending her choice, but sometimes and especially for a person like WYF who was never prioritized, running away seems easier. She didn't just suffered SA. She lost her dreams, her faith on her mother, had no one by her side.
Lastly, its easy to say she could have done this and that. Unless you are at her position, you don't know how you will react. Some people might react worst. She might have been dead if she didn't protected herself that night, like the girl who CXD killed. He was a perpetrator, seeking revenge and she was his target. Don't forget this.
WYF deserves only love, not the hate some people who had been resting on a bed of roses all through their life keeps throwing at her. She is strong because she protected herself, moved on even when her dreams were buried, fed herself and still remained kind towards everyone.
Lastly, Kuddos to ZRN for being able to portray WYF so well, like it was written just for her. She literally breathed soul into WYF.
