Can I say this is the best first kiss I’ve seen? there’s no smoothening filter on their skin. the initiative, the kiss, breaking away and leaning on each other’s face. him hugging immediately after. Then asserting how much they mean to each other. They’re so vulnerable in that scene, exactly how I’d imagine a first kiss to be
I can't brush off the thought that something bad is going to happen to Zhou Kang An and He Wen Jie 😭 .
I have that feeling too. Even if zhou said I’ll protect you both and we know things didn’t end well, what could’ve made zhou not protect Chen yi. I sense something bad happening to them, wen especially
Well, after so many years of watching K-dramas and C-dramas, I've become completely delulu. 😂 I really want…
In the novel, Chen yi was miao jing’s first in everything. literally everything. but in the drama, they are each other’s first kiss. so, it’s giving me hope. also, the novel is too brazen and novel Chen yi is a big red flag. drama Chen yi seems to be a huge huge green flag, hope they keep it that way
When chenyi overhears miaojing talking about her crush (HIM), why did he take off his watch? Sorry, I'm like rewinding…
I think that watch is like loyalty for the boss he’s working for. Removing it seems to symbolize he’s putting miao jing and their future above the job he’s currently in. that’s why, in the end when he mentions that he wants to accompany his “sister” to Haicheng to his boss, the boss notices and asks why he’s not wearing the watch. it’s basically a trap where you get favored more so you can be the biggest scapegoat in the end
Something's confusing me. What are ml and fl age gap? because at the beginning when they were kids they seem to…
2-3 years is the age gap. 2 years if you go by the novel. FL is a student going to a studying focused hs, ML finished vocational high school and has been working money through clubs/ liquor sales/ gambles/ billiards. It’s implied that FL is growing how a common teen will grow albeit the struggles while ML has matured and settled into his “adult” role due to the lack of a guardian amongst them. The novel ML is awfully grey but drama ML is genuinely considering the FL as his family, FL looks at him as her home so is usually more naive with her guard down around him at this stage. Not always though, they go through drastic changes in their behavior
Tu Li character is a part of the cast? Omg I hope she’s not his current gf in the drama like it’s in the novel. I’m reading that chapter right now and I’m getting pissed. So glad they changed up a lot of stuff in the drama, they novel is so grey
I still vividly remember the winter of 2022 when I pulled an all nighter to read this novel. I loved it because the pacing was perfect, both leads were flawed but worked on each other. The ML in the novel was sexist, and super spoilt. The FL was a doormat but their character growth was the best. The novel also had a very realistic happy ending, their career took off, got together with their parents, they had kids, it was genuinely a great read.
The drama has captured their nature and banter perfectly but the pacing is so slow. Too many side character arcs that’s not required. It’s ep 28 and they still haven’t gotten together. If their relationship wasn’t this good to watch, I would’ve dropped it 😭
always interesting that people, who consume Asian content, just cant watch without judging and oppose their own…
Well said. I think it hit too close to home for them. They seem to be supporting/ glorifying emotional cheating regardless of this movie. (Making an assumption just like how they’re making an assumption about my origin)

How awfully wrong can you be assuming I’m not Asian? However, despite whatever my frigging identify is, I can criticize the plot of a movie that’s put out for the world to watch. These movies want $$ and fans all around the world but can’t take one bit of criticism? What are you whining about, you’re just a viewer too, aren’t you?
They fix a lot of the issues in the drama. In the drama it is mentioned that he was married, but that it was arranged…
Will that be mentioned later in the drama? Thank you, if they were cordial for the two years of being married but not in love, it makes sense.
In the novel, the ML was simply respectful towards lady jiang, but mourned her death because they were married for years, although distant, he considered her a part of the family. more of sisterly id say. however, what ruined it for me was that in the novel, the ML had two children, multiple concubines, and Chen xuanqing was also his adopted son in the novel. Then, ML falls for a young girl who just came of age. Also, I hated the FL because she loved Chen xuanqing throughout and made it hell for everyone involved, even leading Chen xuanqing’s wife to miscarry.
It was hot trash with rebirth plot. Genuinely so grateful the drama isn’t like that
You know what’s also gross now that I think about it? Fu Haitian and his wife. She says they’ve been married…
that’s seriously very gross too. there’s another drama where they actually romanticized an old emperor marrying a young naive girl, same age as his sons. I almost threw up, couldn’t continue it.
In eps 7 & 11 , it’s mentioned that Chen Yanyun was already married once for 2 years and is now widowed. I know they switched up so many things from the novel and I’m glad they did. But, I just want to know, did he love his first wife? His mom talked about how he mourned her for years. I just find it icky that the ML is older and has already had a marriage, is a widower, way more powerful whereas the FL is a girl who just had her coming of age ceremony. She’s 18 for the drama’s sake but it’s still icky. The novel is disgusting plot wise, hated the FL character, but whatever, the drama isn’t like that until now. So glad.
Well the thing that feels off and took me was when the guy ask "how if you wait for me until the end".…
This! It’s pathetic how they normalize his feelings for his ex while already being married. What’s justified would’ve been a “Hi! How are you doing? Hope you’re well” and move tf on. People with lingering feelings for their ex after break up should NOT get married or have kids until they sort their feelings out
This guy is already married with a kid. I feel so bad for his wife and child. The FL hides in the room and acts like they’re cheating when the ML’s daughter calls. The FL is seen to be sad and walk away. The ML also hesitates to pick up his child’s call. Tf. Also, the ML asks if she’ll wait for him. Pathetic.
Bunch of emotional cheating wrapped under the context of past love. Disgusting
he had a lover who waited for him for 3 years but died in an accident and now is slowly falling for the FL? no grief process time? i know this is a twisted series but i feel bad for his late lover
