Actually had to stop myself after watching 15 episodes in a few days - I do not usually binge like that! This show just sucked me in from the first episode.
Specifically, CSS and her complex family dynamics are just so interesting to watch. Honestly related a lot with her because of my relationship with my strict but loving mother. Could not hold back my tears 🥲 But there’s also so many funny moments to balance out the sadness. It’s just a perfect package.
Started watching episode 1 and already so impressed by Zhao Lusi! I adore her line delivery so I’m glad she’s using her own voice. She pulls off CSS’s witty and mischievous character so well without coming across as petty.
There were a lot of complaints about Esther Yu's voice, if you don't like it just move on! It is her normal voice.…
I appreciate that she does her own dubbing even though her voice isn’t always my favorite. It’s really admirable for a rookie actress! Since she’s actually putting in the effort to voice act, I’m sure she’ll continue to improve. Rooting for her success ❤️
Loved watching this on HBO Max (I’m in the US if that helps)! The Miss Fisher show is a great template, but…
From the way the show was setting up Ding Rushan as the antagonist from the beginning, I have to admit I was expecting more payoff. I hated that he just turned out to be a delusional maniac with a sick daughter who we never end up seeing. When saving a sick daughter is the motive for a serial killer who murders children, I would have liked more screen time showing their bond and then how Ding Rushan mentally broke down to get him to this state. In the end, he just seems supremely pathetic and as Su Wenli stated, it’s probably just the incompetent police work that allowed him to be so prolific.
Loved watching this on HBO Max (I’m in the US if that helps)! The Miss Fisher show is a great template, but I think the historical setting of Shanghai really was brought to life here. I enjoyed the main cast and extras ‘ acting, music, cinematography, and the overall production. I needed a crime show with a smart female lead and this show fit the bill. I enjoyed the show to the end, but the cast carried the last few episodes for sure. I’ll put my minor criticism in the spoiler. But it is minor so please watch the show!
Really happy to see that the FL here seems to be a good character even if she has a smaller role! Definitely will watch. No amount of bromance will make it okay for me to watch a drama with a poorly written female lead :( I wish detective/crime dramas would do a better job with giving women meaningful roles.
Completed this and had to write a comment since I enjoyed it even with that cliffhanger ending! The drama had tight pacing, great acting, beautiful cinematography that helps in foreshadowing, and an OST that really elevated the suspense and tension. I wish the scriptwriting was more consistent - the Maze Murder case (episodes 19-21) was stellar and then the last case (episodes 22-24) was just really confusing. The overall experience was fantastic though, so I would highly recommend a watch! Each episode is about 30 minutes without the opening/ending, so you can finish this pretty quickly.
You will love this then! Bai Yu and Zu Er already bonded in this show since the beginning, that she keeps calling…
You got me excited haha I watched the pilot right after! I like how they got right into the action ☺️ The subtitles are better on YouTube than the Tencent app. Was that also your experience? I would have restarted my VIP subscription for the video quality in the app but the AI subtitles are not good 😭
Thank you so much for this informative and well-written post! I am on Season 7 of Who’s the Murderer and was really sad that I would have to wait for my murder mystery variety fix after finishing. Seeing that He Chen is working on this show, I NEED to watch this next. Also love Bai Yu and Song Zu Er from one of my most favorite Cdramas The Bond ❤️❤️❤️
This was so good! Between the script, cast (loved the women this season), set production, and crazy logic/deductions, I don’t how season 7 can beat this for me 😍
She’s such a good actress! She was already good in her debut drama and has shown such versatility since. Love her in Love Like the Galaxy - she has such great chemistry with Zhao Lusi.
This season was so good! The first case on the ship set and the last case(s) on the train were so well-done. I’ve become a fan of Zhang Ruoyun ❤️ He’s ridiculously smart, has a great sense of humor, and has a gift for getting along with people.
Just here to join the chorus of people falling in love with Ni Ni ❤️ her whole demeanor so naturally transforms between the younger and older versions of her character. Also she’s gorgeous!
If anyone else was also curious about this guy’s stalker behavior you can read the story here: http://www.zaikeinews.com/articles/195/20150831/maki-horikita-fell-prey-stalking.htm. I’m hoping it was Maki’s choice but I can’t believe 5 years of stalking, including harassment at her workplaces, wouldn’t wear someone down mentally. Wishing her the best.
For anyone watching from the kisstv fan subs, ep 10 (about the amusement park) starts having subs that are delayed a little over halfway into the episode.
So proud of my girl ❤️ Been a huge fan since her Produce 101 days and she deserves every bit of love and appreciation coming her way. If anyone is interested in her amazing singing, please check out the performance which made me a fan for life basically: https://youtu.be/aeTLcSZ1oB8.
