I think Ning Shu deserves to suffer, since he clearly is being consumed by his desire for revenge and didn’t realize how much harm he had caused to his family. It’s okay - he’ll learn now and experience some character growth. And Ning You has gone through enough pain protecting her family so she deserves her chance for happiness.
She’s a talented actress and has an amazing voice. Seriously, I would replay her scenes in Ruyi because she has such a calm, mellow tone. That’s her real voice right? She sounds the same in Novoland so I think so.
Love seeing the compliments flow in for her! I've been a huge fan since Operation Proposal and I always hoped she would have a breakout role so she could get projects deserving of her talent. So excited for her next dramas after King's Affection!
I can deal with a lot when the main couple has boatloads of chemistry like in this series, but this was just way…
TW: rape, rape of a minor, gang rape, coercion of a minor
-Tharn sexually assaults Type, who is a survivor of child sexual assault. -Type recovers from his trauma with Tharn, a man who violated his boundaries -Type is physically abusive towards Tharn when he’s upset. -Lhong never gets punished for his awful decision to have Tar, a 15 year old at the time, gang raped and then blackmail him. Instead Tharn’s brother forgives him. -San, a grown man, coercing Tharn, his best friend’s 14 year old brother, into having sex with him, leaving Tharn feeling terribly about the experience. Tharn’s lovely brother forgives San after one little argument.
This just all together in one show made me feel sick after watching…like I could have dealt with one of the above by fast forwarding but everything? The author of the novel is sick and needs to stop getting rewarded with these adaptations until she learns how to write about rape.
I can deal with a lot when the main couple has boatloads of chemistry like in this series, but this was just way too much toxicity packed into 12 episodes. This is what bothered me the most: (under spoiler).
To sum it up, I think the message of this drama is that rape can just be used as a convenient plot device because it isn’t a big deal. Also, that men can physically abuse their male partners with no issue because they’re men.
Love him so much! He’s an amazing actor with so much versatility- would love to see him have a breakout role but for now enjoying seeing him in quality shows like Marvelous Women ❤️ Also enjoyed him in the Legend of Hao Lan. I know I would have hated his character if not for his nuanced interpretation
Wow I've seen so many iterations of the serious, cold ML that I didn't think even a good actor could play it differently, but this man killed it! Please get him a main role!
I’m soooo going to love this based off of that chilling atmospheric trailer! And great to see ZLY taking roles in non-idol dramas - they suit her really well.
Zuo An has to be the most boring, pathetic ML I’ve ever seen in a cdrama. And the actor’s facial expressions never changing doesn’t help 😭 How many episodes did the ML spend at the beck and call of the SFL? Spoiler: it was pretty much the whole drama. I’m not kidding - they’re still clearing up misunderstandings in the 31st episode because of the ML…
The FL is cool though and deserves better! She understandably gets jealous because the dumb ML is incapable of setting boundaries with the crazy SFL. But she’s generally level-headed and stands up for herself. The actress is good too and I’d like to see her in other dramas because this one was painful to watch!
What the FL did was awful, and she continues to try to cover up what she did as an adult. I appreciate morally grey main leads, but only if they actually experience consequences - which she did! And the actress was amazing so I came to sympathize with her. I felt like it was such a copout though that the girl whose life she ruined is portrayed as a villain to prop her up. Felt like they were laying it on too thick that the FL was the victim.
She is absolutely stellar in The Bond, which is her latest work. Did a nuanced interpretation of a difficult role and held her own in scenes with Bai Yu. I really hope more people give her a chance. She appears to be booked for many future projects, which is great!
I wouldn’t recommend this one sorry. The FL has the stereotypical boring hardworking/plucky poor girl personality. The actress does a decent job but she doesn’t have screen presence at all. I’d be watching a scene and have my attention diverted to anyone else but her even when she was talking. There are some standout performances from characters like the male villain. I enjoyed watching the villain’s downfall! Made the watch worth it 😌
Hope she gets more roles! Please cdrama gods ❤️
