I'm having a great time with this drama, I've rarely laughed so much (honestly I didn't want to drink the alcohol it fell in my mouth), almost couldn't watch it afterwards (accident) and in the same episode heartwarming scenes between the main characters. Please, please keep it up and don't drift off.
The themes of heroism and service to and sacrifice for the fatherland take up a lot of space. The many teachings that are given exceed the tolerable level. I don't like this heroism in Western productions either. I fast-forwarded a lot. I still gave the drama 7 points because the main actors conveyed the beautiful love story very convincingly.
Honestly, I love this CD drama. I started it because on the surface it contains some reminiscences of "What's wrong with secretary Kim". But the further the story progressed, the more depth the characters got. FL and ML both go through big changes that mature their personalities. In addition to a mature love story, friendship and family, it is also about the path to and dealing with success and failure. As someone who has experienced many ups and downs in life and business, I think these themes are also dealt with excellently. The propaganda takes up less space but when it got too much for me I fast-forwarded, which happened twice.
Oh, that makes me happy. Something in the rain and One springnight are two of my favourite dramas that I watch over and over again. I love the aesthetics and the imagery. The red umbrella 😍
I paused the drama because I made the mistake of reading the comments here while the drama was airing. In my experience, dramas starring an idol are praised to the skies by commenters while others are massacred by haters. I'm not a fan of idols or actors and not a hater, but someone who sees dramas and the work of the actors in them as individual projects. That's why I like films or series because they are well made or I don't like them, I'm not judging a person or the overall performance of the actors/writers/directors etc. I like this drama and I don't think that any of the actors have totally failed here. I can't understand why the FL is being butchered to such an extent here. Mongwoo is not an extroverted character but is portrayed as an intelligent, head strong and rather reserved person. I found this to be clever and enjoyable compared to some of the over-the-top portrayals in other highly acclaimed dramas. I also disagree that the second half of the drama is a total failure. The suspense arc doesn't quite hold up to the end, I agree. I'm sure we all would have loved to see the father back in Joseon and FL officially as queen. Mongwoo said in the first episodes that she will marry the man she tells her name to because he defeats her in the baduk. She tells the king her name before he can defeat her. It is clear to me that they are getting married. The king has told his mother in an argument that he won't make Mongwoo a concurbine and, disguised as a joke, has suggested making her queen instead. He has consolidated his power and acted freely in every respect towards the end. In the end, he tells Mongwoo that he never wants to be separated from her again and wants to spend his life with her. Whether she stays by his side as a queen or as Mongwoo is of secondary importance to me. After all, as Mongwoo she has much more freedom, and as a woman I think it's a happy ending to have freedom in a loving relationship and not end up as a jewel in the palace.
Wow, if there's a perfect slowburning romance drama, this is it. Definitely the best CD drama I've seen so far. Believable characters, responsible love, friendships and family bonds. Beautifully filmed and with a very nice OST.
You are getting very personal here, belitteling my opinion and myself by telling me I need to think before I speak. But that's nothing new, it's obviously the tone you have to expect if you have a different opinion. Next thing you know, I'll be hysterical.
It is not random, because this drama is a story that takes place in Japan, and the question was how the cast was chosen. I am not a troll. I must be because I am disagreeing? That is so typical, either misinformed or a troll.
This corresponds to the worldview that anyone who has a different opinion is misinformed/uneducated/evil. Maybe you just have to acknowledge that not everything that is well-intentioned is also useful/effective. And perhaps some of the well-intentioned measures go beyond the good and create new problems because they are about ideology and not about realities. How much paternalism is tolerable and when does it reach a level that is no longer acceptable? Casting Pokahontas with a white actress is cultural appropriation, casting the British Queen with a black actress is not. Netflix is allowed to do this because it makes more money. Let's face the reality, it's not about justice, it's about power aka money.
Nekokaburi is not wrong. Ideology is a private matter and has no place in the working environment or in art. Politics must not be allowed to influence art. We have seen often enough where this leads. Even in the 3rd Reich, Karl Ritter and Leni Riefenstahl packaged propaganda in an easily digestible way. I see similar tendencies to occupy positions ideologically, be it in science, politics or art. I find this dangerous, especially when supposed moral superiority is the deciding factor and seems to give the right to supress different opinions.
