My stance on censorship is nuanced and context-dependent. I wouldn't advocate for censoring art that seeks to…
Art must be free, because morality is something that is too readily abused by religions and ideologies. I would say that art should abide by the law, but in the past art has denounced the abuses of unjust systems by transgressing legal and moral boundaries. So the boundaries are rather fluid.

I found the reactions to their new campaign from the teachers very curious. I can see the new teachers feeling…
That was actually explained. FL has been working with some of the younger teachers for a few years, but did not share her tricks of the trade with the others as these are her secrets to success and there is strong competition among colleagues for students and time slots. This competition between colleagues and between academies was one reason why FL advised ML to choose a different profession. When ML joins the academy and immediately forms a team with FL, the others feel at a disadvantage as the secrets of success are shared in such close cooperation as well as she shares her reputaion with him.
On The Midnight Romance in Hagwon May 18, 2024
As nice as it was of ML that he didn't want to replace FL as the Academy's advertising face, embodying the Academy's success story together as teacher and successful student in the next advertising campaign won't necessarily make a future as lovers any easier.

I like these types of dramas. It reminds me of Black Dog, which focuses on the public side of education, whereas…
Is there an education system in this universe that doesn't need to be reformed? Here in Germany, nobody wants to be a teacher anymore. For good reason! In the meantime, career changers are being trained as teachers in the public school system in a fast-track training program. I recommend anyone who wants to be employed as a teacher here to have excellent knowledge of curative education, social work and quality management. You don't need to be able to deduce the Tower of Hanoi any more than you need to have read Shakespeare's sonnets - a degree in social education would be more important. I hear from my friends that it's the same in Switzerland or Singapore. However, we all seem to be facing major challenges in our education systems. No matter where we are, the problems in elite institutions are different from those that serve every student, but problems are everywhere, whether in Germany, Switzerland, South Korea or Singapore.

I feel the same! But I liked the Drama „Be melodramatic“ where Chun Woo Hee was in the Main Cast, so i think it‘s her role and not her acting that is annoying 🤷‍♀️I have to drop this one, can‘t stand it.
On Blossoms in Adversity May 16, 2024
A well-written and well-executed fairy tale in which the women of the Hua family are the heroes and work together to save their future through intelligence, hard work and perseverance. Better than some Disney productions! Love it, gets a place in my alltime favourites list.

can someone explain to me why she was so against him becoming a teacher. I dont get it.
I think she explained it very well. I kind of reacted similar when my doughter told me that she won‘t be goingt to university but becoming a nurse for intensive care.

I'm liking the drama so far but i don't like the fact that she was trying to ruin his chances of being an instructor.…
I think this is a typical conflict between parents and children, perhaps also between teachers and children. As a person with more life experience, you often foresee problems because you have experienced similar situations before. The more important the other person is to you, the more difficult it is to let go and let them have their own experiences. An example: I have often experienced that executives were poached to private industry by promising them company shares (5x), but in no case was this implemented as promised. So when my son comes to me and tells me that he has received exactly that offer, it is incredibly difficult not to say too much and just be happy for him.

Thanks for the link. I also experience parents putting massive pressure on teachers when their children have been reprimanded. I can't find any correlation to the level of education of the parents. But I have the impression that many children are no longer raised at home because the parents are either busy making money or they don't feel like dealing with the children at all. The education and upbringing of the children is left to schools, kindergartens, etc. As a result, they often have no realistic view of their children and they hardly spend any time with them. Putting pressure on your teacher is apparently easier than educating your own children. I am of the opinion that schools and teachers need more support. However, I don't understand what that has to do with this drama, because it's about a teacher making a mistake, which certainly does happen. Aside from that, the Korean dramas so far have left me with the impression that the system is very rigid and doesn't take good care of children's mental health. But no group of people have complained about it yet.

I work in schools and kindergartens, where I assist children with special needs. I think I've seen quite a lot by now, starting with parents bullying teachers, teachers bullying children, teachers being bullied by children, alleged cases of bullying that were nothing more than a small everyday argument between children or a avarage but stern reprimand from the teacher children who were actually bullied by other children . The vast majority of people get along quite well, but that doesn't mean that there aren't individual cases. Since the education systems in every country in the world are essential for our future, regionally and globally, criticism and discussion about the best possible measures to strengthen the systems is one of the most important topics of all. A drama like this is a good opportunity to talk about it. I reject any form of censorship and I say that as a German who has to live with the fact that being German has been predestined to portray personified evil in every kind of film production for decades. We endured it and used it to reflect on ourselves and become better. I recommend this to every nation and every group of people who feel attacked. Use it for self-reflection, maybe you'll find a starting point to improve or it's far enough away from you that you don't feel attacked.
On The Midnight Romance in Hagwon May 13, 2024
I don't want to complain about the slow pace of the first two episodes. I like it when a story unfolds slowly. What I don't like is when the climax of the story is reached too early and you have to go through several 180 degree turns and hair-raising changes of direction in episodes that are actually superfluous. The main characters have been carefully introduced, you can already guess their strengths and weaknesses, and conflicts are looming.

I see, obviously I need to brush up on my knowledge quite a bit. It's been quite a long time since I dealt with this topic. In any case, your explanations are so interesting that I want to learn more about it, especially the historical context sounds fascinating. It makes me want to read the classics from Shakespeare to Kafka again. Thank you so much!

Because of the lack of comedic aspects, Midnightromance can logically not be called a romcom, because of the lack of a sad ending (hopefully) it cannot be called a tragedy, drama would be the generic term and melodrama a subcategory?

In fact, works like Casablanca, Gone with the Wind and East of Eden are also listed as melodramas. I've always thought that kitsch is the dominant element in melodrama. Thanks for the infos, it‘s apreciated.

For those arguing over what is and isn't melodrama, the characteristics of the genre are:1. Stereotypical Characters…
One of the important differences, however, is that melodrama uses stereotypical characters in order not to have to concentrate on detailed descriptions of the main characters. But I find the characterizations to be very detailed. Another difference is the embeddedness of social problems and I would say that problems in the education system have a significant impact on a society. That's why it fits not perfectly in the melodrama genre for me.

But how I undestand the situation, both answers were possible. Ok I am from NRW 🤣Our teachers get mails and calls every day, the meetings with parents are much longer than 10 minutes, we have special education teachers, social workers, translators etc. involved, because schools in NRW are working inklusive. Parents here are revolting even if we just change the seating arrangements. In our elite gymnasiums they would give full points for both answers. My father and my uncle were teachers at elite gymnasiums and they had a lot of work with the parents.

I can promise you that here in Germany several parents would have shown up at the school the day after the exam, at least one would have had a lawyer in tow, several letters from the parents would have turned up at the school office and the Ministry of education.
