Ooh, I liked Hu Yixuan a lot in A River Runs Through it and Unforgettable Love. I am keeping my expectations low though simply because the track record for any kind of re-editing (censor requirements, shortening it to 40 episodes, etc.) is not great. But at least it doesn't sound like it will be a straight up AI face-swap!
I love reading your reviews after I've completed a drama! It's always such a pleasure and really appreciate your perspective and insights. I'm with you - the romance could have been elevated and made even more riveting had it been darker and more passionate; the humour disrupted the depth of their emotions, making them feel somehow shallower...still, an overall enjoyable watch that actually stuck the landing with a fairly satisfying conclusion. My own rating is a bit inflated - for me, it's higher than 8.5 but lower than 9, but I rounded up.
This is such a cute and wholesome drama! And so refreshing having colleagues who have great chemistry and are supportive and lift each other up even with the hilarious bickering. And parents and in laws who are also kind and supportive and fun!
I'm trying this tonight but I really dislike slapstick, I hope I still like this though!
I am the same usually, but the cast was charming enough that I didn't mind somehow! I really likes the main couple and the romance was sweet. But I get that it might still be too much for some people.
I am not the biggest fan of slapstick... and yet! I thoroughly enjoyed this warm and cute drama. The OTP were lovely and the excellent and perfectly cast ML was both adorkable and swoony. I know this is Uhm Tae Goo's real voice, but in certain scenes, the cadence and tone felt like such a hilarious nod to Marlon Brando's Godfather. The comedic homage to western mob films in some of the background music and other details was just enough to be cute and funny without crossing into grating and tiresome.
I am used to watching Im Chul Sol in likeable, earnest comedic roles, so watching him portray this perfectly detestable weasel with such energy and swag was an unexpected surprise. The reformed "criminals" and "gangsters" were also a bunch of teddy bears and just as enjoyable to watch.
My brain cells are not computing...questions in spoiler...
I am not quite done yet (around ep 37) Why did the king suddenly not trust Prince Su and decide to poison him? Was it because of the mom's actions? And also, was there a timeline inconsistency or was it just me??? Did they not say several times that SRQ and the princess were together for 17 years? But didn't they also say that all that stuff with the execution of the Su family happen in the 8th year after the crown prince became emperor? The math isn't mathing if the "past life" took place over 20 years? Also in the present timeline, how did the princess know they placed a fake Prince and that the real one died? There are just a lot of logic gaps, and even if these particular questions are answered, the overall plot still didn't quite gel together for me. And while I didn't mind the overall casting, I think I could've overlooked the plot deficiencies more easily with a stronger OTP.
I always look forward to reading your reviews after I've finished watching a drama! So deliciously written and always a very fun read! "Spinning hussies" ha! I tend to generally agree with your takes, even if our final ratings differ. I technically gave it a 9, but waffled with an 8.5 -- I too docked some points as it lost momentum and some direction towards the end unfortunately.
I am curious in this line -- "the moment of peak retribution is when it dawns upon him what a prize he lost and is forced to face the limits of his own character" -- what that moment was for you?
Asking doublets opinion here. Want to try another cdrama. Already dropped shenli and princess royal. Is blossoms…
Just realized you probably meant In Blossoms, NOT Blossoms in Adversity (so many dramas with Blossoms in the title this past year!). In Blossoms was good too, but if I recall, a slightly simpler story and a bit less revenge compared to The Double.
The people who complain about the ending don't understand that The Double has a HE. Many of us have had the affection…
Oh yeah, the title acronyms can be a bit trickier, lol. Thankfully most are for the bigger/more popular dramas or else I'd never figure them out either!

Some key dramaland acronyms to help :) -- HE - Happy Ending OE - Open Ending BE - Bad Ending (Sad) FL - Female Lead (depending on the individual, it might be used to reference the character or the actor/actress or both) ML - Male Lead 2ML /2FL - Second male/female lead OTP - One True Pairing 2MLS (?) - Second Male Lead Syndrome (where you like the 2ML better than the main guy - a not-uncommon problem, lol)

If you mean Blossoms in Adversity, I quite enjoyed it as well. it has a much more satisfying ending than this one. If you like similar stories with strong and smart female protagonists, I also highly recommend Destined, which is one of my favourites. These two aren't really revenge dramas though. A slightly older drama with a strong female protagonist is Princess Weiyoung with a bit more revenge.
Has someone already submitted a synopsis edit to clarify that this listing is actually for the compilation of 5 arcs, which have their own entries? It is not clear at the moment unless people know to look under "related content" (and even then, it's not obvious).
60 episodes? This grind is not for the faint hearted 😳
Looks like it is actually broken down into 5 arcs -- 30ep+8+8+8+6 -- each arc has it's own page that's listed above under "related content". So feels more digestible than 60 episodes!
Can someone explain the censor thing? What did China censor? I thought the ending was understandable and am really…
Technically, time travel is not "allowed" (although govt censors can be lax for low budget dramas and the ban is mostly for TV broadcasts, I thought, not necessarily web dramas), so some viewers think the ending meant everything was just a dream -- or that it allowed for that interpretation if necessary -- as a way for the show to pass censors. But the fact that he sleeps with their marriage certificate under the pillow indicates to me that he remembers everything and was just having a recurring nightmare.
(The govt doesn't like time travel because it "distorts history", is often tied to reincarnation etc. So a storyline with suicide and being reborn again is a huge no-no (I think there was a drama with that storyline that may have sparked copy-cat suicide attempts, but not sure.))
I actually thought the ending was a smart and effective one ---
it is vague enough to "explain" away any problems or issues that might come up for censors, but also clear enough to me that it was DEFINITELY NOT a dream. If it was just a dream, why would he sleep with his marriage certificate under his pillow every night? That's why he panicked for a moment looking for it. He simply still has PTSD nightmares (who wouldn't) given he carries with him all the memories of every attempt he made to save her, including the one where he saw all his physical memories of her disappear in front of his eyes. And also, I would not be surprised if this drama was originally small enough that censors would not care too much anyway -- a lot of the shorter and lower budget dramas get away with time travel, transmigration, steamier scenes, etc. that would never fly with bigger budget, higher profile dramas with bigger names.
Is this drama worth to watch? I had seen Lovely Runner before this which had similar concept, parallel world.…
I don' t think you can compare it to Lovely Runner at all in terms of quality. :) This is a much more low budget production, but still a fun and entertaining watch in its own way. so I would enjoy it for what it is. Leads are great and have good chemistry.
It's unfortunate since he is so expressive in his natural voice.
Most of the dramas where he has a main role has been his own voice.
My Lethal Man -- Probably the lead role that caught everyone's attention? Fun, soapy, sexy mystery/melodrama. He dubs his own voice here.
Childe Xie's Wine -- A so-so time travel drama, but worth watching just for him. Not sure it's subbed though.
Dear Liar -- He was almost too good playing a pretty dark and disturbing character here. A psychological mini drama.
Miss Chun Is A Litigator -- I personally enjoyed this one, even though it is incomplete. FXZ is not the ML here (he should've been!) but I think he actually had a lot more screen time than the ML. (ML was dealing with a a bit of a scandal and no word if the rest will be released even though everything seems okay now.)
