Is anyone watching it on an official site? Is the editing and sound quality as inconsistent as they seem on the "grey' sites? The production quality itself (direction, cinematography, costume, sets, effects, acting, etc) seems pretty good for a mini drama, but some of the editing appears pretty rough. I'm on ep 19 now and for the last couple of episodes, everyone sounds like they inhaled a mild dose of helium, lol.
That makes sooo much sense.. I couldn’t figure out how the British were involved with them. I kept thinking…
Haha, glad I could help clear that up. I was trying to ignore the English subs since they were so jarringly bad, but I kept seeing references to the British, so I started paying attention to the Chinese subs as well to see what the heck was being translated, lol.
My reading isn't as good as my listening, but is it just me or are the Chinese subs also automated (at least in the version I'm watching)? For those trying to make heads or tails of the English subs, this may explain why they are extra bad. The Chinese subtitle errors make the English translation even more nonsensical. One example is the subtitles use the incorrect "yin" character for Yin State, so it translates to "British". Based on the Chinese site descriptions, it should be 殷国, not 英国. I also noticed at least a couple of instances where a character clearly says one thing, but the Chinese subs show something that sounds similar but means something completely different.
If you like the general mood and Republican revenge setting -- Provoke and Miss Mystery are good. There is also My Everlasting Bride. They're all varying degrees of grabby alpha males though. Maid's Revenge and Bride's Revenge (same male casts) are especially grabby and unless I am mixing up my dramas, both need a trigger warning for rape too. Circle of Love is super toxic with a love/hate dynamic. If you like anything in the Republican setting, Stand By Me (2023) is a surprisingly fun friendship/bromance.
All of these are short-length mini-dramas with strong to scorching chemistry between leads, despite the unfortunate abundance of red-flag MLs.
I'm surprised by the 7.6 rating here -- I'm about half way and really enjoying this drama and the way the mystery is slowly unravalling. Wang Zihao is a natural -- this is only his second role, and at just 21, he is able to effortlessly convey the maturity and gravitas required of his character. (Also given the "so-called" taboo topics that's touched on in this drama, it's interesting this show made it past the censors at all. I wonder if that's why they decided to release it all at once...)
This is a small silly thing, but I'm finding it so distracting! As far as I can tell, the ML and FL wear a different winter coat every day (aside from their Varsity jackets)! I've counted probably close to a dozen different winter coats so far -- each!! Who has that many winter jackets to rotate through, especially students?! Canadian winters are long and cold, and even I only rotate through one or two and I'm way past my student days, lol.
Just finished this --- there aren't many dramas where I am absolutely invested in soooooooo many characters!!!! I loved the entire crew so much, nobody was boring or annoying or useless (villains don't count 🤣). I laughed, I cried, I laughed some more, and cried some more. Now I need to go digest everything slowly because the last few episodes were a lot....
I don't think so. I think what princess Chu Yue saw is what's happening in the underworld. But idk how she is…
oh wow. that's a very interesting way of looking at the ending... I just finished it and so much to digest in the last several episodes following the second prince's reappearance from exile....
I was so pleasantly surprised by this one! I don't think I would have necessarily checked it out if I hadn't just finished watching Attorney Woo, which I thought was wonderful. Park Eun Bin's voice is sublime. There were tiny hints of WYW in Mok Ha, but not in a bad or distracting way. As someone stranded on an island half her life, she is a survivor, yet she is also untouched by the cynicism and burdens of everyday adulthood; Park Eun Bin does a great capturing all of that, along with Mok Ha's purity of conviction, resolve, earnestness, optimism, and hopefulness. The rest of the cast is great too and 12 episodes was the perfect length for this.
Looking at you, Meteor Garden, with that stupid surprise wedding that SHOULD have been a crack-induced fever dream…
? Sorry, not sure I understand. My comment is in reference to the latest (but ever changing) censorship rules in China that frowns on transmigration, rebirth, BL, time travel stories or dramas longer than 40 episodes, etc. that has been in effect for the last 2 or 3 years. Production will fudge or work around these "rules" in various ways, so most of them end up using "it was a book/video game/dream" as a common plot device. Meteor Garden came out before all this.
Will be very curious how they will converge the time travel/second chance element! Thankfully this is not a C-drama, or else in the final 2 minutes of the show, it would all turn out to be either a dream or a book or a drama one of the main characters had/read/watched😂😂
ML actually also died. This is his second life back in time, same as the FL. ML is the one who wants to go through…
Yes, pretty sure he was in the other car that got hit and flipped over in the beginning. And I don't know if it's just me, but he seemed to like her already at the time based on his interactions with her in Ep 1.
I saw all the love for this drama and decided to hold off until the final week so I could binge, but I totally did not expect this to be so low budget and absurd! 😂 It's totally a dog's blood makjang drama ... but SO deliciously entertaining! 😂 I inhaled the first 10, and now waiting impatiently for the final two episodes.
Stray thoughts: - Manager/Secretary Kim went from mysterious scary errand boy to one of the more intriguing characters in the series. - The plot twist hint for ep 11 😱 - Lee Min-young is so good playing the cloyingly creepy and scheming monster of a mother. - I'm rewatching some of the first 2-3 episodes for new clues and connections....
Im really curious, is there any journalistic ethics being broken when it comes to interviewer dating interviewee…
It's probably okay after the article has been published, but sometimes it might also depend on how long after or news outlets might have their own specific policies (e.g. only six months after their last article or something). So if she wrote a really favourable piece that moved his company's stock prices higher, and then they started dating right after, I think there could be potentially serious issues if people suspected they were already in cahoots before. Once they start dating though, the reporter definitely can't cover that person anymore, which could be a problem if they are important to their reporting beat. It can get into tricky territory in terms of conflict of interest and ethics, or their ability to do their job properly, so the reporter might need to switch to a completely different subject area. (At least that's the viewpoint in North America, it might be different elsewhere.)
