(Also FZX really needs to upgrade into bigger and longer dramas)
Yes, he's done a few -- Mountains and Oceans and Miss Chun is a Litigator are also full length...but they're overall more modest productions and he's talented enough to do something heftier.
The premise of this drama is really interesting. Of course, Fan Zhi Xin made this drama more interesting for me.…
The company specializes in cutting edge quantum research, so the assumption early on is the dad probably developed some kind of break through technology. The story feels like it's probably applying the idea of quantum superposition (that a particle or electron can exist in multiple states at the same time) and quantum entanglement (which is when two particles are connected and affect each other even if they are light-years apart). (In the real world, these are fundamental theories in physics that have actually been proven in particle experiments but still very, very far away from anything that could be used practically (like exponentially faster computers, medical research advancements, cryptography, etc.) let alone breaking time and space. :))
I normally wait until a show is done before starting, but I was too impatient and couldn't help myself🤣 But a couple of small nit picky points...Unless they do things very different in China, that lotto ticket should still work because the bar code is RIGHT THERE, lol. Also Pei Shan said he got a job with MU to be closer to the person he likes, but then he's like, I don't know anyone here except you, so can you show me around? Either she's the one he likes, or more likely, he's the fishy guy and can't get his story straight, heh.
OK, so I know this is supposed to be trashy and soapy, but is the FL seriously trying to seduce her own brother?? And the ML is seriously jealous?? She might have a new identity and might be bluffing and the ML is projecting the real Manqing, but ... it's still EWW?? (Especially when she says to the ML that she is now Manqing, so she is no longer "related" to Gu Qiyan, so why can't she seduce him. What??)
It's hilariously ridiculous all the silly little things that get censored in full-length C-dramas, and yet these mini dramas get away with so much when it comes to misogyny, abuse, and toxic relationships...
I am currently on ep 16 and am really enjoying this drama. I know from reading previews comments that there will…
I can't remember which episode, but it's around the early 30s I think. Unlike typical breakups this felt organic -- it was maybe for 2-3 episodes, but it didn't feel long to me because the pacing for everything else kept the story moving nicely. They get back together several episodes before the (satisfying) end.
I always love reading your spot-on reviews even if we differ on the rating! In this case, I can't help but give it a high grade despite -- or *because* of -- Hua Zhi's preposterous achievements and the absolute satisfaction (and joy) derived from witnessing them. :D
Just finished this drama and I loved it. I got so teary throughout the drama from all the joyful, uplifting, and touching moments. I've also never bawled this much during a funeral of a supporting character. The whole flawed family was wonderful, the secondary and supporting couples and characters inside and outside the family were all engaging and interesting. Definitely among my favourite dramas, despite some small production quirks and that I did not like.
trust an elder senior lady of GenX (born 1979) here!i have been watching Hongkong/Taiwan/China wuxia ancient fantasy…
lol, greetings fellow (younger 😉) Gen Xer! I remember watching those TVB classics with my parents as a kid on VHS tape, haha. Yes, sometimes half the fun is ignoring things that defy logic. (One of my favourites is how everyone spits blood even if they suffered no internal organ injury, like they got stabbed in the shoulder or arm 😂).
From ancient China to the Republican Era, plastic surgery skills throughout Chinese history seem even more advanced than modern techniques, lol. And the speed with which they heal is pretty miraculous too. 🤣
This one started off a bit meh for me, but I ended up really enjoying it and hope it gets a much needed S2. The second third cracked me up so much, and the final third had me teary with angst and smiling like a goof. You do have to park logic at the door and not ask too many questions though, lol.
