Actually, I think she learns more with LBY than Lou Yao. She wanted to marry Lou Yao because she wanted to play it safe and she could help him be something. She learns a lot with the 3rd aunt and the queen, but she is exposed to life, love, sadness, fear, etc with LBY. He is the only man she actually listens to. The others have to listen and do what she wants.

Actually they already changed the script to add him from episode 1. Originally he was not supposed to show up until episode 6 since they followed the novel 80% of the time so far. The same with the story of Ming Lan, the main lead does not show up till the end of episode 5, and even then, they don't get married till ep 40.
Originally, Yuan Shen did not tutor anyone but now he is on episode 17-18, so you never know, also the mother in the book said that if CSS was marrying Lou Yao they needed to find someone of similar status for Yang Yang. Since in the drama she is "Extra" , it would not surprise me if she did push for a match with YS.

I think it's because 1 she is afraid of Ling Buyi and his power, 2 she has many insecurities because she has never been loved by anyone and now this kid says he loves her and follows her around like a dog and does everything she asks him to do and 3 She thinks noone else will propose, plus she will be in a low psychologically when he asks her.

Actually, the script was changed from the original novel to add LBY to all the episodes in some way. I find it funny and more romantic then the book in that way. I think CSS character is better in the drama same with Grandma Cheng, there is more depth to her character so I appreciate that. Pretty much the drama follows the book with some interesting changes to keep the audience engaged. The mother's bias is also more pronounced in the drama. Something that was maybe cut is the fact that Father Cheng actually was very upset about the table incident and how Xiao Yuanyi handled it and he actually had the 2 servants beaten and returned to the Ge household. Plus he actually loves his daughter very much and is always bragging about how beautiful and smart she is.

I think unless there is a particular drama you want to watch ahead of time is not worth it. I find that most dramas are either on Viki, Amazon Prime and YouTube .
