Just finished all 24 episodes. I paid the $.99 for Premium VIP just to watch it with English Subs. Wow, wow, wow! This drama pulled at my heartstrings, I cried, I laughed, and cried some more. The acting was superb, The cinematography as well. In the first 12 episode I taught the political aspect, palace and characters were not well defined, however in the second half everyone played their role so well. In a sense this drama reminds me of Rise of phoenixes and Goodbye my Princess, not for the storyline but because of the emotions I felt while watching the last 8 episodes. Although it is clear that it is a sad ending, I would still recommend this drama to everyone. It is worth a watch. I am sure I will rewatch it at least 2-3 times before Forever and Ever starts. And The OST one of the best in a historical drama... Allen Ren and Bai Lu really killed it, I felt every emotion, every angst through their eyes,

I am curious to see how MBFB changed the script to explain why the crown prince decided to "debone" him and how his disciples ended. Plus most likely there needs to be a link that ties both dramas for the people who prefer either costume or modern dramas to want to watch the sequel or prequel. I agree the politics and palace issues were not clearly explained so far and I think some characters are very flawed. I am not sure how I feel about this drama yet. I liked the novel, I read it 3 times. I liked the slow progression of their love and the fact that Zhousheng Chen is a man of few words but has depth and is possessive and protective of her. I am still not sure if Allen Ren is the right actor for this novel either, the modern setting has a lot of intimacy and I am not sure if he will be able to satisfy us. I also agree that they have great chemistry so far. Bai Lu on the other hand has played her role to a T. She is not my favorite actress but I enjoyed her role in The Legends and now on this drama and Song of Youth. I do not specially like her modern dramas, she seems too flighty. One thing is for sure, I should have waited until the beginning of September to watch this show, because I am dying waiting for the new episodes to be aired.
Ok I know everyone seems to be oddly comforted by the fact that they get a happy do over in the modern times but…
In the novel, she does not talk to him about his past life in an upfront manner. She makes him understand she is a bit psychic and is able to see his past life by reading his palm. She is aware of all these things since she was a child, so she has experienced being badmouthed because she was "weird". She may seem a bit forward at the beginning but I don't think crazy is the correct word. Remember that in today's society women throw themselves at men just because they have money or are a celebrity. So that is why he had her investigated from the first meeting they had. He wanted to know her motives. The other point is that not all dramas should end in a happy ending. Look at Nirvana in Fire for example is one of the best dramas out there but it has a sad ending. It is unrealistic and even fantasy when the screenwriter makes the leads "come back to life".
I’m nervous because I read a post that seemed not great. Please tell me, good or sad ending?
I think you need to watch both One and Only and Forever and Ever, because it's one story broken down into 2 dramas. You should consider this drama as the beginning of the story, so the ending does not matter. That is why I think the sequel will be released right after this one to continue the momentum.
For the people who have read the novel, does ShiYi gets more interesting later on? More useful? She's a sweet…
In the novel, in the ancient part she was 6-8 years old when she went to live at the palace of Zhousheng Chen Xiao Nanchen Prince, she could not speak from birth and led a very sheltered life. Also, because of her status as the crown princess she could not go to battle or be taught battle strategy, her main study focus is chess, calligraphy, painting, reading and music. Also she was not allowed to leave the prince's estate except one time the prince took her around the city. She is not meant to be the most independent person or a women who knows what she wants, she has to sacrifice herself for her family and duty, and until the end when she finds out that it was her family whom betrayed Zhousheng Chen and conspired with Crown prince to kill him she really does not make any sort of decision for herself. In the modern setting she is a beautiful talented woman, who is independent and at the same time very demure and chaste. She feels out of the place because since she was little, she was different from others because she remembers her past life. I think Bai Lu really nailed the role of the innocent, naive and sheltered princess in this drama. Plus the script is very different from the novel in many ways. If you are looking for a warrior princess, this show is not for you. Even in the sequel she is not your stereotypical modern woman, she is actually conservative and old fashion and that is one of the reasons why I think modern Zhousheng Chen likes her plus she keeps surprising him with all her talents, her trust and devotion towards him.
