Can you please help understand how that remark is viewed as racism?
Personally I don't think there was any intent to be racist
Exact translation of the picture incident:
TXW holds up drawing of ZLH Host: It is quite handsome too.
*Production team puts a picture of ZLH with messy hair beside the portrait to do a comparison, for comedic effect*
ZLH: Who does this look like? Guest: Wind-blown messy... TXW: Hair
ZLH: I feel like I was born in SEA Host: She managed to draw the mole on your nose bridge correctly ZLH: *nods*, Yes, it does have my distinctive characteristic
As a SEA, can you please help understand how that remark is viewed as racism?
the production team is so shady, they compared the drawing to a picture of ZLH with messy hair🤨, which is probably part of the reason why people think that ZLH thinks the picture is ugly...when he literally agrees afterwards that the picture has his distinctive characteristics
Yeah personally what matters to me is that he clarified and apologised sincerely, and I trust that he will be more careful with his words in the future. And don't worry I didn't know about it too until it suddenly showed up #1 on weibo trending lol
a variety show where TXW and ZLH drew portraits of each other, and ZLH made a comment that in the drawing he looks like "he was born in SEA", and people got offended saying things like oh what do you mean look like born in SEA, are you saying that that is bad etc. , then ZLH apologised on instagram saying he didn't mean anything discriminatory behind that comment
I can understand Chinese, and I watched the show the day it aired. When he made that comment, I was just like "? In what way does it look SEA?", and personally I didn't think much of it, but I immediately knew that there was potential for people to twist and find offense in those words, and lo and behold, people did
I think it stems from a lot of unhealthy beauty standards and perhaps even self-loathing tendencies that people may find offense in his words, which is quite sad actually. It may even be his own upbringing and environment that caused him to say those words without realising that people might find offense, BUT I was quite surprised that ZLH himself would come out to clarify and apologise, because we've seen so many similar and perhaps even worse incidents in which the stars themselves dgaf
So in all, it happened, he apologised, take it if you want, don't accept it if you want.
there were multiple moments in the novel but i'm not sure if they will include it or change it in the drama, for e.g. XZ hunted him down while shooting arrows at him but missed by just a bit multiple times on purpose (to treat SYQ like a prey), then he also captured SYQ and dragged him on the floor (like the butcher who tried to hurt CY)
Sui yuanqing is the typical man that has "never seen a woman that dared to defy me before" and chases CY around like she's some kind of prey to be conquered🙄
