I'm not sure if you've read the novel, but the FL actually....unfortunately acts even cuter in the novel and her performance here is actually kind of toned down🥲 Like for example in the novel when saying instructor (教练jiao lian), she doesn't pronounce it properly and says "教念jiao nian"...which irl if anyone said that I will actually cringe so hard

So tbh as a fan when I heard that she would take on this role (because after the winter sports themed variety show with LinYi in 2022, literally everyone was encouraging her to take the role), I was quite worried that the above would happen, but thankfully she tried to tone it down...and I do agree with you MJTY is a huge step out of her comfort zone and I hope that with her popularity she can finally avoid being typecasted as such cutesy characters in the future...

And if you want to talk about the character, the source material is EXACTLY like what she is portraying, and she is quite literally just. staying true to the character!

Maybe it might be the cultural gap or smth, but in China, no one views YSX or the characters that she plays as "toddlers", we mostly just appreciate her for being unapologetically herself and defining her own standard of being "cute"
