Since I posted this I've seen a few positive comments about it, so maybe I'll enjoy the drama for itself and not just for my sweetie ... lol ...
I binge-watched this and enjoyed it a lot. It's not a serious take on the warring states period of Chinese history, but it does feature a strong female lead, an adorable king who is her husband / lover, and a villainous couple in the vein of the Macbeths. The romance between the leads is what I liked best about the show.
This is my first [and possibly my only] Jdrama ... and I have to admit I like the characters here ... despite the rather wonky initial premise, I found the characters' emotional immaturity and insecurity quite touching, especially given their ability to cloak their feelings from each other and from their work mates. I know some people didn't like the ending, and I admit I found it a bit rushed [a problem I've seen far too often in Cdrama series] but it actually fits the two characters quite well. I'll probably watch again when I need a feel good drama with shy characters ... lol ...

You haven't watched enough Cdramas .... KML ... If he'd declared himself before and she'd rejected him, then I'd agree with you. HOWEVER he wussed out and didn't tell her how he felt about her. I think the other guy making the comment about the wedding dress made him realize that he needed to man up and tell her his feelings before she got seriously involved with the other guy. I would have been annoyed if he'd just let the other guy walk off with his girl without putting up a fight.

Could also be construed as him fighting his corner. After all, he was able to pull her first. I think he also understood that she was going to the other guy at least partly because she thought he was in a relationship with his former crush. By declaring himself, he was making it clear he wasn't into that other girl.

My impression is that the sex appeared less intimate than the hand holding because it could be hidden. Nobody but them knew what they were doing. Hand holding, OTOH, is a PDA, with huge social consequences - basically an announcement of a relationship. These two people appear to be almost pathologically secretive, so casual sex behind closed doors would likely have felt less threatening to them. I wouldn't take their actions as typical of the society, though ...

But my comment was that the remake that we're waiting on was filmed before The Starry Love, which has already aired in its entirety. Basically I would love to know what the holdup is, since I can't watch the actual drama ... lol ...
