I would recommend that you watch the first few episodes and from there decide if you want to continue or not. Most of the hate for this drama comes from how long people waited especially after POJ. People here have been waiting for an year straight for this drama ever since the official cast was announced and this drama didn't meet their expectations because the official platforms hyped up this drama ALOT as well and hence the massive hate train because this drama didn't meet the expectations of many fans

The only thing saving this drama were the actors 😭
Its the type of drama where it has so much potential at the beginning but then they end up ruining the character development. It was like generation to generation. Like they really hired leading actors of the cdrama industry only for the screenwriter, director and post production to mess it all up. Murong Qingyi had so much potential for a complex yet cunning character and Ren susu had so much potential as a revenge driven women but they ruined it. They reduced murong qingyi's to a love sick puppy who's first and last goal was to somehow make Ren Susu fall in love. He lost his dignity, respect and all the principles he once stood by just for her and Ren Susu doesn't even show the slightest regret. Ren Susu was reduced to a heartless women who showed no regard for the sacrifices Qingyi had done for her along with many of her other saviours. All she ever cared about was revenge and the irony is that character in the past contradicts her future self. If she wanted then she would've taken revenge on the stone who stumbled her when she was kid. That's how I felt about her character and in the end, all she was left with was regrets.
On the bright side, one thing I liked about this show was awareness about human trafficking especially girls who were kidnapped and business such as certain orphanages that run even now who sell girls.

Exactly, I was wondering the same but I think this is some sort of diversion technique to mislead the reuters and fans because both fandoms really hated on Lu Yu Xiao and Zhang Ling He alott so I think that's why they are filming the extra scenes and main scenes rn and will film the romance scene later on and the hate train was also quite recent so they are probably stalling.

Guys I have a question, where the mask ends ended filming during the end episode airing of pursuit of jade so probably early April so how did they edit it this quickly that it's airing this month? Doesn't it take about a year for the drama to be ready for streaming etc?
And same with many of other Cdramas like they end filming a few months before and are already airing meanwhile there are some dramas that have been filmed since ages and haven't been streamed yet, despite obtaining the license?

I just realised that if Lanxiang had married Scholar Han then he wouldn't be able to ever protect Lanxiang if he stumbled upon her identity, as careful as Jialun is, she still can't hide her identity for an entire lifetime. Jinqi is the Young Master of the Lin Family, he's careful and already shields so many secrets so he can protect Lanxiang way better than scholar han could. And The Lin family would rather die than spill their own secrets.

I saved up episodes and just finished watching til 39, I do feel that they could've at least given us 2-3 episodes of their relationship development and the time skips almost didn't make sense at all. But at least, I can make a prediction that they will most likely kill off Jinqi and Lanxiang will die in old age just as everyone here predicted based on the novel. So through today's time skips, I can conclude that we aren't getting an happy ending but rather an open ending.

Me too, she got so much for a script that wasn't even her fault. It was the writers and partially directors fault. They hired a new scriptwriter to save budget hence the drama turned out to be so bad

I watched this last year when it was airing and trust me that it deserves worse than a 6. They casted amazing actors, amazing directors and production only for the writer to ruin this drama. Even the original writer was disappointed. This had so much potential but the writer screwed it up

I think it's because the recent airing dramas are too popular and since everyones attentions is towards another drama, this drama may not be able to compete hence the drama will flop even if the storyline,actors and production is top tier. So they are probably waiting for the hype of the other dramas to decrease a bit before airing so that this drama could be able to rise the charts and get the ratings it deserves

This drama is definitely a fresher drama. The characters are well written and their character development is crazy good. You will witness that every character was able to grow and learn. Every character has a different approach to alot of similar situations and you'll be able to witness human nature. What's right for one is the wrong for another. If your watching this drama for the romance element then it would not be your cup of tea. The romance element here doesn't exist. This story is a more real story about the struggles women faced. It shows a reality of families who faced extermination and what happened with them. It shows how the poor lived back in the day, bounded by slavery, human lives were treated as trash. it highlights the injustices so many people faced. Most Cdramas nowadays are revenge based but here it shows that even survival is a privilege only for the chosen ones especially in the old times. This story really makes one grateful for all the privileges we as a society now have. It shows people or humans who were able to discover themselves and live as themselves in comparison to those who were bounded by their own families. This story follows a girl named shen jialan who now lives as Lanxiang when her noble clan faced extermination due to the forbidden words spoken by her grandfather once.
Lanxiang now lives with her adoptive parents bounded by slavery. Lanxiang and her parents are now slaves of the lin family in jinling. Through her merits, Lanxiang frees herself and her parents from slavery only to be trapped by fate in a marriage backed by imperial edict to the family she once escaped.
This story has many aspects, every single individual here was wronged one way or another and you truly cannot blame anyone except the emperor/ruler here.
(I may have given alot of spoilers but it's truly worth the watch)

LEGIT SAME. JUST ONE EPISODE WHERE THEY ARE HAPPY 🥲

This series has to be one of the bestly done series in terms of portraying how women lived and not even lived, they survived. Why must a women be bound by her parents, husband and son? Most women have the same regret that they couldn't live as themselves. This series is the most real piece I have seen on women struggles. Truly, I felt so bad for xingtang. She lived her entire life, hiding, trading and never receiving true affection to the point that money became the only thing that could comfort her. She wasn't a bad person, she was a lost person. The one who lost the path to righteousness but didn't walk the path of the cruel either. She was just the middle piece, a mirror who reflected what happens because of your own actions. She learned cause and effect the hard way. But the innocent gleam in her eyes when she was dying was by far the most devastating thing i have seen in ATC. She looked like an innocent child who looked tired but still wanted to survive. Her life reflects that comfort/wealth is not equivalent to happiness. She would've died 10 times just to experience the love Jialan or Lanxiang has received from her parents. Her both sets of parents loved her dearly and raised her with morals and principles. If only Xingtang had experienced that life then her outcome might have been different. Don't you think?
