After putting this on hold for 2 weeks before watching the finale today, i have decided to add half notch up to the rating.
The recently released costume dramas are just mehhhhh.......... so I guess "The Long Ballad " is one of the best costume drama so far in 1H2021. This is the 1st Cdrama i watched that i rooted from the 1st lead couple to 3rd lead couple. Those non-romantic relationship storylines are also are commendable because the entire casts were really good!!
Not similarity, they are all famous xianxias. I think only TMOPB might be similar.
Oh, apart from TMOPB, the 3x lifetimes lover or reincarnations love story and subplot also happened in Love & Redemption, Eternal Love series and Ashes of Love .
This movie lack the story telling and CGI standards that were set by decade earlier popular HK movies based on anime/ manhua/games such as like Initial D (Jay Chou) and Storm Riders (Aaron Kwok and Ekin Cheng).
I watched this due to the star studded cast. The only redemption was the last 20 mins fighting scenes.

In the older drama, The Empress of China starring Fan Bingbing in 2015, the Tang's Crown Prince was also having a close "male confidant " and risking his position bcos of him as history indicated.
I really enjoy watching BTS for both couples. There we can really see how comfortable Zhao Lusi & Liu Yuning interact and fooling around with each other! Dilireba and Wu Lei were shy then slowly warming up before thry became closer and can talk and joke with each other.
Dilireba mentioned in a recent interview that this drama is her happiest one especially when they were fikming on the set for a short 3 months and looked at Leo Wu.
The trailer was released in 2019. The drama was prolly shot a year or two back. William and Naza looked much younger then...lol
Its refreshing to see Naza playing a more mature and intelligent character here as she normally takes on those cute and pretty roles in the past that didnt showcase enough of her vast improvement in acting. Love her outfits here!!
Anyway, glad the drama is released now and hopefully it is well received regardless positively or negatively. Maybe different year, different genre was prioritized for censorship approval. Storm Eye with Yang Mi and Zhang Binbin was popular ( criticised for being unrealistic) and released earlier, have the kind of have the same genre i.e. cyber security, national intelligence agency, etc. , but different story line.
1) Due to their petite size, they wont look good in heels and always wear sport shoes or mens shoes with thick soles (identical white color shoes)
2)Braids hair and fridges.
3) Baggy jeans, jeans vest , white t shirts and brown cotton bags.
