Once I found out my beloved drama got a remake, I immediately checked it. I watched the remake until the end. My opinion? Thank God I did it bcs it's so good! Also, thanks to this drama, I found new favorite actresses: Li Sheng and Zhao Liying ❤
Many people dislike this drama bcs it is a remake of a mega hit drama. We can never forget how iconic the original one is, starting from the cast, the acting, the OST, the story. However after watching this drama, I feel like the original lacks a lot in story part!
This drama is more realistic, with a lot of rearrangements. It does make sense way more than the original. The original drama didn't tell anything about Xiao Yanzi's family, but the remake gives you everything you need to know about it and how it is beautifully solved. Xiao Jian and Qing'er get their own story which is also beautifully shown. They get what was left behind in season 2.
I really like it bcs it is so satisfying, complete and sensical. Don't compare the acting or cast, but compare the story.
You guys should know that this was NOT written by Qiong Yao. Hence all the mess. Plus, the original cast became mega stars back then, it was hard to get them back.
I'm a big fan of the series too. I tried to watch this and pitied the whole cast. They were a mismatch. No chemistry, the plot is all over the place.
It starts with Xiao Yanzi has a miscarriage. Oh yes, how could she not know she is pregnant? Doesn't she have morning sickness? She still the biggest dumb and lazy bump, acting like a kid. Then Xiao Jian and Qing'er are forbid to get married. Yong Qi has to marry another girl to save Xiao Jian and Xiao Yanzi from the mess. The emperor find a new beauty. Then the country gets into a war with Myanmar. Oh the same plot: the princess is in love with Er Kang 😒😒😒 So she kidnaps him and fakes his death. Er Kang is drugged, he loses his memory. The group find out Er Kang is alive and go to rescue him.
The good points of this drama: -the production, costumes, setting -Xiao Yanzi gets better in her martial arts. Her fighting scene with the Myanmar princess was good. -the ending

1. ZW is the FL. Every story evolves around her. 2. XYZ stays illiterate until the end. Still dumb, lazy, and hates study. Her kungfu is still the same, sloppy. 3. EK always belittles XYZ, mocks her for being dumb and impulsive. Sometimes he even acts as if he is above YQ. 4. EK is the oldest and acts like the leader of the group. 5. Qing'er is never be a part of the group, never bond with them. 6. XJ feels distant from XYZ instead of being attached to her. 7. XYZ's story is revealed in the remake. 8. Girls are always attracted to EK, even in season 3, a Myanmar princess kidnaps and drugs him to the point he is addicted. 9. XYZ is addicted to gambling and chess. Her addiction gets her into trouble countless times, even causing ZW gets abducted. 10. Lao Fuoye is unbelievably cruel, evil and delusional. Totally depicted from being a Buddhist. She purely hates the girls and is eager to get rid of them. 11. The actors did brilliantly, but sometimes Zhou Jie (Er Kang) is too theatrical in his expressions, overacting. 12. Liu Hong stays solo.
Know that Qiong Yao created season 2 in a hurry bcs she was afraid that the actors would be too busy doing another projects. So it's basically write, shoot, air. I watched this drama when it was aired for Zhu Xudan bcs I was curious seeing her as a protagonist. The plot is good: 4 lifetime, 4 characters. Zhu Xudan did well playing 4 characters. It's just the story was awfully written.
First lifetime: the introduction. Feels sad and lonely. Second lifetime: boring, nothing really happens. It's just a filler. Third lifetime: the most interesting. A lady general with real villain, real story. Fourth lifetime: she finally finds out the truth about her previous souls and her relationship with the Dragon King.
The second couple, the underworld king and the bird, irritated me! She is stupid, noisy, loud, useless, keeps yapping like every other birds. I felt disgusted from the start. He binds her, forbids her to speak, locks her in his place, forces her to be his slave! Their relationship is TOXIC! It's SLAVERY! I felt like watching an S-M play. Idk why a lot of people adore this couple 🤷♀️ I would never want a man goes on yandere mode! I'd rather kill myself.
This is a B class drama so everything looks cheap. The story and characters were poorly written. The main couple suffers from the start. It's hard for the viewers to connect with them. The ONLY right thing the bird said which really summarized this drama "Which freak wrote the script?" 🤷♀️
The overall story is very weak. The main villain, which is very obvious who it is from the start, has no reason for his goal. He is bored with his work. Really? That's it? He "appears" in bad guy cloak at the last chapter with the grin "Oh yes I'm the bad guy. Mwahahahahahahahah!" 🙄 The extra ending doesn't give anything but makes us think "They are repeating the cycle???" It's her 5th lifetime and they're STILL in the cycle?
Peter Ho said he is friends with the producer for 10 years. When they went for a meal, the producer talked about the plan to film this drama and about Murong Gaogong. Peter casually said "Let me do it". And so he got the role 😂 I'm glad he did bcs Idk another actor suitable as Murong Gaogong.

He actually has a nice body and defined muscles, just like other gym person. Peter said he intentionally made himself look fat by having the clothes fluffier, bending his back, even ate a lot to have chubbier cheeks. So he looks harmless and rounder. There are 2 other couples, but their stories don't interrupt the main couple. 5. The main couple is passionate, wild, flirty and bold in showing their love. Like I said, due to censorship this drama got heavily butchered especially the intimate scenes. However, it doesn't ruin the main couple's love and chemistry. There's a lot of skinship and flirting bcs they are definitely not shy!

1. Actually the leads were suspicious of each other since the start bcs of their personalities which don't trust people easily. However they don't have any misunderstanding bcs they know each other so well. Even when they get mad it doesn't last long. There is breakup bcs of the condition, but the next scene will be back to comedy as they still think of each other. The aftermath isn't painful and the breakup only lasts 1 ep 😂
2. The emperor/Murong Gaogong loves FL and keeps pursuing her to make her his empress. He doesn't know she loves another man or that she has no intention to be his empress. Don't worry, the main couple love each other deeply and their love doesn't sway.

If you watch it for the first time, you might only notice the very obvious ones (i.e sudden change is music, sudden change in pose). If you watch the trailers and watch the drama, you'll notice some scenes are gone. Once you rewatch, it's easier to notice the cuts. They already cut a few scenes from eps 2. Then eps 5, they also cut a lot of scenes after they arrived at West Shu (after eps 14), then eps 19-20, eps 25-26. They mostly cut the intimate scenes. however it doesn't change the passion between the couple. We still have A LOT of romance and sugar.
