Good points: 1. XYZ is the FL. 2. For XYZ-YQ shippers, this is your drama! 3. XYZ makes progress in study! She even gains a whip from XJ to protect herself and makes progress in martial arts. She then mastered other weapons too! 4. EK never mocks XYZ! He always supports and cheers XYZ when she is down and defends her when she's being bullied. 5. EK isn't the leader, XJ is bcs he is a traveler and knows everything. 6. Qing'er returns to the palace before ZW's identity gets revealed. She joins the group during the undercover travel and becomes best friends who knows the truth. She isn't ZW's love rival and falls in love with XJ during this travel. 7. Lao Fuoye is more reasonable and forgiving. She even tries to help XYZ. If she makes mistakes, she will regret it and apologize. 8. Consort Yu, YQ's mother is alive! She hates XYZ even before knowing her, hates her approaches and efforts, delusional, denial, possessive. She always accuses XYZ as witch and evil who possessed YQ into a rebellious son. She always plays victim to make YQ feels sorry and leaves XYZ. 9. YQ gets married to a sly bitch, Xin Rong. This bitch is manipulative, plays victim, always depicted the truth into false, liar, ambitious, greedy. She always tries to seduce YQ and manipulates Consort Yu to hate XYZ. 10. XJ's affection to XYZ is clearly shown as well as his love to QE. He takes QE away during the hijack and declares her as Mrs. Xiao. 11. It is weird to have a foreigner in the group, but during Qing dynasty, foreigners lived in the palace to study. Qiong Yao tried to show this. 12. Benjamin is an angel to XYZ. He loves her deeply, but never asks for a return. But he vows to take her away if YQ hurts her. 13. XYZ is shown as a more caring and hardworking girl. She tries to find a way to make her friends happy and does any work for living. She's still reckless, but less impulsive and always apologizes after making mistakes. 14. XYZ isn't addicted to gambling or chess. So there's no stupid story bcs of her gambling issues nor causing the blind ZW getting abducted. 15. XYZ's story is fully revealed. 16. Liu Hong gets her own story. 17. The ending is realistic and best suited the characters.
Bad points: 1. The actress playing ZW, Hai Lu, is too mellow and timid. As if she's going to cry every 5 seconds. She's not suitable as ZW. 2. Benjamin has more screentime than ZW. 3. TOO MANY FILLERS! Write lyrics and practice a song? A choir? Football competition? Ducks, geese, goats? And some other trivial things that are unnecessary. 4. The ending is realistic, but some might not like it.
Once I found out my beloved drama got a remake, I immediately checked it. I watched the remake until the end. My opinion? Thank God I did it bcs it's so good! Also, thanks to this drama, I found new favorite actresses: Li Sheng and Zhao Liying ❤
Many people dislike this drama bcs it is a remake of a mega hit drama. We can never forget how iconic the original one is, starting from the cast, the acting, the OST, the story. However after watching this drama, I feel like the original lacks a lot in story part!
This drama is more realistic, with a lot of rearrangements. It does make sense way more than the original. The original drama didn't tell anything about Xiao Yanzi's family, but the remake gives you everything you need to know about it and how it is beautifully solved. Xiao Jian and Qing'er get their own story which is also beautifully shown. They get what was left behind in season 2.
I really like it bcs it is so satisfying, complete and sensical. Don't compare the acting or cast, but compare the story.
You guys should know that this was NOT written by Qiong Yao. Hence all the mess. Plus, the original cast became mega stars back then, it was hard to get them back.

Then Xiao Jian and Qing'er are forbid to get married. Yong Qi has to marry another girl to save Xiao Jian and Xiao Yanzi from the mess. The emperor find a new beauty. Then the country gets into a war with Myanmar. Oh the same plot: the princess is in love with Er Kang 😒😒😒 So she kidnaps him and fakes his death. Er Kang is drugged, he loses his memory. The group find out Er Kang is alive and go to rescue him.
The good points of this drama: -the production, costumes, setting -Xiao Yanzi gets better in her martial arts. Her fighting scene with the Myanmar princess was good. -the ending

EK always belittles XYZ, mocks her for being dumb and impulsive. Sometimes he even acts as if he is above YQ. 4. EK is the oldest and acts like the leader of the group. 5. Qing'er is never be a part of the group, never bond with them. 6. XJ feels distant from XYZ instead of being attached to her. 7. XYZ's story is revealed in the remake. 8. Girls are always attracted to EK, even in season 3, a Myanmar princess kidnaps and drugs him to the point he is addicted. 9. XYZ is addicted to gambling and chess. Her addiction gets her into trouble countless times, even causing ZW gets abducted. 10. Lao Fuoye is unbelievably cruel, evil and delusional. Totally depicted from being a Buddhist. She purely hates the girls and is eager to get rid of them. 11. The actors did brilliantly, but sometimes Zhou Jie (Er Kang) is too theatrical in his expressions, overacting. 12. Liu Hong stays solo.
Know that Qiong Yao created season 2 in a hurry bcs she was afraid that the actors would be too busy doing another projects. So it's basically write, shoot, air. Also Zi Wei is the FL in season 2 bcs every story evolves around her. Xiao Yanzi is the SFL and her story remains mystery bcs Qiong Yao had no time to elaborate it.
I watched this drama when it was aired for Zhu Xudan bcs I was curious seeing her as a protagonist. The plot is good: 4 lifetime, 4 characters. Zhu Xudan did well playing 4 characters. It's just the story was awfully written.
First lifetime: the introduction. Feels sad and lonely. Second lifetime: boring, nothing really happens. It's just a filler. Third lifetime: the most interesting. A lady general with real villain, real story. Fourth lifetime: she finally finds out the truth about her previous souls and her relationship with the Dragon King.
The second couple, the underworld king and the bird, irritated me! She is stupid, noisy, loud, useless, keeps yapping like every other birds. I felt disgusted from the start. He binds her, forbids her to speak, locks her in his place, forces her to be his slave! Their relationship is TOXIC! It's SLAVERY! I felt like watching an S-M play. Idk why a lot of people adore this couple 🤷♀️ I would never want a man goes on yandere mode! I'd rather kill myself.
This is a B class drama so everything looks cheap. The story and characters were poorly written. The main couple suffers from the start. It's hard for the viewers to connect with them. The ONLY right thing the bird said which really summarized this drama "Which freak wrote the script?" 🤷♀️
The overall story is very weak. The main villain, which is very obvious who it is from the start, has no reason for his goal. He is bored with his work. Really? That's it? He "appears" in bad guy cloak at the last chapter with the grin "Oh yes I'm the bad guy. Mwahahahahahahahah!" 🙄 The extra ending doesn't give anything but makes us think "They are repeating the cycle???" It's her 5th lifetime and they're STILL in the cycle?
