Bro, do you even understand Xiao Duo as a character? Xiao Duo is cold, arrogant, cruel, emotionless, intimidating, scheming, he cares for no one, unreadable, untouchable man. No one dares to mess with him. How could someone like him suddenly falls in love with a mere woman? A younger woman? Xiao Duo? Falling in love?? No one in this world would ever imagine. Even the empress who has been trying to seduce him, his godson, Yinlou's maid, King Fu, eunuch Sun, Wanwan, Prince Nanyuan, none of them expect it. But she could sense it after a while that's why she keeps teasing him.

If you watch the drama, it is explained at the very beginning and more info a little later. Basically Zhaoding bureau is a section where eunuch can hold power. Which is why Xiao Duo worked hard to join Zhaoding. Ever since he became a Zhaoding chief, he single handedly manages court affairs, including investigations, punishing criminals, security, and helped the late emperor. Xiao Duo won his favor and earned power more than any ministers. It's his privilege. That's why he said "I'm the hands and eyes of the emperor."

Villains are divided into two types:
1. The third wheel villains
2. Power hungry villains

The first type tries to separate the couple by creating misunderstanding. They are busy scheming, but actually really stupid.
The second type will be killed by the protagonist.

Murong Gaogong is the first type, but he doesn't use any plan bcs he doesn't know the truth. Therefore, he intimidates, he controls, he oversteps his boundaries, he abuses his power to get what he wants. All to cover his incompetent, weakness, and inability as a human bcs he was never treated as human. He wasn't born evil. As much as I hate him, deep down I pity him. The result of him being a complex character? 😅

I don't think there is. The extended ending and extra scene close the drama in a beautiful way. The novel ends just slightly beyond the drama ending. So there's nothing more to elaborate.

The reason why I don't like fanatic cp shippers is bcs they are delusional and harmful. I feel grateful that even though we love XiaoBu, we ship them as characters, not the actors themselves. Yuqi and Dylan are from Sichuan. Behind the scenes they are like neighborhood friends having fun bickering. I'm thankful to Dylan's fans who work with Yuqi's fans to create a peaceful watching environment 👏👏👏

He is one of the most complex villain in cdrama bcs he is not one dimensional and typical. XiaoBu is the main charm in this drama, but Murong Gaogong is the key to keep it intense.

I must give a big applause to Peter Ho. Murong Gaogong is a hard character to portray, has so much depth, but he brought this character into life. We can see this character development throughout the drama.

He started as a timid, weak, coward man who has no ambition. For him who has been bullied since young, Yinlou is the only light in his life. Then he started to learn how to use power, to intimidate, to gain, to control. His one and only obsession: Yinlou. After Yinlou turns crazy (nope), Murong Gaogong loses hope of living and makes him not wanting to do anything anymore. You could see the loneliness in his eyes. His only light has turned off. His sole reason to stay alive.

This villain is very interesting. We all hate him so much, means he succeeded. I don't know what else to say except: bravo, Peter Ho! 👏👏👏

If you see it again, Murong Gaogong has been punished. He killed his trusted follower. Ministers and citizens despise him. He has no one by his side. His tonic has caused a side effects. He is already at pit's end. Moreover, the pain of losing of Yinlou won't make him survive.

Also, there is actually a continuation about the throne. Wanwan finds a male Murong bloodline and enthroned him as the emperor with her ruling behind the curtain. There are pictures of this, but they didn't show it in the drama.

Happy ending! Saw the extended ending too! Gosh I wish they didn't rush it. The emperor appeared too much in last ep. I need more of XiaoBu!! 😭 they could've cut the "almost get busted" scene or the kite scene and show the extended ending instead.

Let's say, everyone in Zhaoding bureau manages to escape during the chaos and returns to dream house. Then they all leave the capital, live their own life. Cao Chun'ang and Tong Yun follow XiaoBu. Idk about Qilang though.

It's a happy ending. There is an extended ending too on Weibo. A lot, and lots of romance! Fluffy, romantic, flirtatious, passionate romance! You will love the couple and the leads as characters. Mind you, ML falls in love first quite early. She could sense it and has fun teasing him 😆

It is a romantic comedy with mystery plot.
Good points:
-a cold, ruthless, scheming, powerful, untouchable ML, but becomes soft only to FL
-a bold, brave, smart, coaxing FL. She's the "If you hit me, I'll hit you back" type and she's a fighter. Definitely one of the rarest FL in cdrama.
-lots of comedy, fluffy moments.
-beautiful OST
-beautiful cinematography
-great fighting scenes
-great acting
-strong couple! One of the smartest couple in cdrama
-the plot is unpredictable.

Bad points:
-a lot of intimate scenes got deleted due to censorship, but they released the videos on douyin and weibo.
-bcs of this the editing feels a bit choppy.
