In the novel, Dou Shishu (fifth uncle) is a good person. He cares about Dou Zhao. He didn't do anything when he found out Dou Zhao and Song Mo are getting married. There is another thing that happened as to why he stays silent, but idk if the drama will show this issue.

Ji Yong in the novel is way more annoying. He isn't evil, he is just arrogant, he looks down on people, and he can harm people without blinking. Which is why Dou Ming is really scared of him. For Ji Yong, only Dou Zhao is equal with him. Seems like they toned down Ji Yong a lot in the drama.

The drama cut too much necessary plots. Ji Yong really loves Dou Zhao. They grew up together and he likes to argue with her bcos he wants her attention. He didn't realize his feelings until his grandpa asked him. He kept harming Wei Tingyu so the marriage will be annulled, then he asked his grandpa to propose Dou Zhao. What makes him worse is that he only cares about his principles, thinking that it will make her happy. That's why Dou Zhao asked him "Have you ever cared about my feelings?"

Bcos he HATES Jiang family and his wife. He was forced to marry Madam Jiang by the previous Duke Ying. The previous Duke Ying thought Song Yichun incompetent and planned to pass his title to Song Mo. Song Yichun has been jealous of Song Mo and afraid people would take his side instead, esp bcos the emperor favors him. That's why he keeps trying to tarnish Song Mo's reputation and eventually kicks him out of family ancestry. He wants to pass the title to Song Han bcos he can be controlled, unlike Song Mo, whom he calls rebellious, evil, unfilial. Song Yichun NEVER cares about his sons. He only cares more his reputation, and title.

When people call him Song Mo, it shows they are not close.

However in the novel, Song Mo has a nickname, Tianci (while Song Han = Tian'en). His family and Gu Yu call him Tianci, instead of Yan Tang.

From what I caught from the novel, Shou Gu is Dou Zhao's nickname which she got since she was a kid. So it's not courtesy name. Only few people know about this nickname. Song Mo found out about this when he investigated her. That's why he was annoyed when Ji Yong calls her Shou Gu, bcos it shows intimacy and closeness. I remember Ji Yong was warned not to call her Shou Gu since she is already married.

Song Mo killed his father and brother. He even cut his brother's arms before killing him. This was why his reputation was horrible in the first lifetime, being called demon, unfilial, etc.

Indeed. Bcos they usually won't bother with courtesy names in drama. However this drama/novel followed suit where men usually get their second names. It is confusing yet intriguing to learn about it.

The situation at that time was crucial. The whole Jiang family might get executed. The baby boy must be saved and no one shall know about his existence.
