Tbh the drama is different from the novel. 1. Dou Shishu, the fifth uncle is very good, both as a person and an official. After finishing Duke Ding, Song Mo is needed for their plans to succeed due to his skills and influence. Song Mo is a deputy general of Jinwu Guard though, so he stays in the castle to protect the emperor.
Song Mo is favored by the emperor since he was young. Due to this, Dou Zhao also enters the royal family circle after she marries Song Mo.
Dou Zhao then warns Song Mo to be wary of Prince Qing. Therefore Song Mo distances himself from Prince Qing. This infuriates both Prince Qing and Queen Wan. They then use Song Mo's father and little brother who hate Song Mo to eliminate him. They almost succeeded.
