Although this had your usual formula of Japanese detective dramas; it was interesting to follow mainly for the Ghost-seeing element and some things here and there. I know this could've been better than this because there are other Japanese detective dramas that outclass this one mainly because of their well-written characters.

I have to blame the screenwriter Kaneshiro for this, he said he wrote this drama with Oguri in his mind but I didn't see anything that makes Oguri shine in this drama except for the last three episodes. I am sure any other actor could've been okay in that type of undistinguished character. Other characters were simply a "Meh", such a waste of space.

I think the last three episode significally raised my rating for this one, and the ending gave it an important boost as well. It was smart to end that way, maybe a second season shall be planned but overall, I liked this drama; although it wasn't perfect or classy but it was a bit different and enjoyable. And yeah, because I like Japanese detective dramas.

I am a bit disappointed by this film. I knew it wouldn't be as awesome as the drama but I didn't thought it would be this slow. It's nice to know that they didn't make the drama version as dramatic as this film.
I just hope that this year's film wil be as amazing as the drama if not better.
On Alice no Toge Aug 3, 2014
I am a sucker of the revenge so I couldn't possibly miss this drama despite the existance of the Medical genre which is one of my most hated genres in Dramaland.

Like everyone agrees, Alice no Toge should've been done way better than this; it had so much potential to give a memorable piece but it simply failed to do so. My only blame is the execution of the revenge process; it wasn't interesting at all! Despite the episodic pattern at the beginning, I hoped some things would be fixed afterwards but they didn't.

It's watchable and I liked it somehow but it's forgettable and not-creative. I have to say that I loved Ueno and Odagiri (as usual) in here.
On Steel Cold Winter Aug 3, 2014
I thought this would be an interesting romantic thriller. Well, to some extent it was. But it was nothing excellent or well-done. The plot was flawed and I couldn't connect to the characters at some point.
It was a good watch anyway or I wouldn't give it a 6.

Kang Dong Woo just never fail me with his performances at all. The film was not thriller as I thought it would be, suspense was totally killed off which bothered me a little. But overall, it kept me following what's happening even with some predictable events, this film was a good ride. I liked it.

To like this drama, you really shouldn't take it seriously. Having watched many detective dramas, all the cases in here are repeated from previous shows and "detective' clichés so you really shouldn't pay much attention to that in order to appreciate this drama. It's not exactly the silly type of Japanese humour but it sure cracked me up at some scenes.
This drama's strength point is without doubt the somewhat special partnership between a father and a son who have personal issues on their own, their bickering scenes were priceless. The side characters were also so great for this drama's development, I didn't hate the female detective because the writer didn't turn her character into another dumb woman in the first devision crime department.

Watabe was amazing, I loved the man's way of portraying an eccentric character but Sato's facial expressions owned it all for me. I also loved seeing Oikawa palying an evil character. I hated the hinted romantic parts though, listen people you shouldn't include romance in detective dramas, alright?

I read "To Be continued" after the credits, there will be a second season, right? I checked the ratings, this drama did well so give me a second season next year Fuji TV!

I did not read the manga nor watched the anime.

With that out of the way, I actually enjoyed the film at many parts but it wasn't that great to be honest. Some gore and action scenes made this film entertaining but I couldn't exactly connect to all characters except for Sebastian a little; Hero did a nice job there.

I think there will be a part two in the making, I hope it would be more exciting than this.
On Vampire Flower Aug 3, 2014
Considering its size, this mini-vampire drama was actually fine. However, there wasn't exactly something to talk about not to mention the horrible acting from those idol group boys.

I didn't hate it though. It's still a better love story than Twilight LOL

Intense, brutal and captivating! This film was a geniune take of human emotions and how they can elaborate in a non predictable pattern. I loved it and I will surely not forget about the amazing performance from Yang Ik Joon.

Phew! Almost three hours, this must be the longest Korean film I've ever seen!

Moss surprised me to be frank, I didn't expect it to be this good! It has an amazing mystery build-up that makes you want to get the puzzles together. I enjoyed the tight suspense and the great Thriller feel into it but the film failed to wrap up; it had a non-satisfying conclusion.
I really liked it though, Park Hae Il did a great job and the man is seriously headed to my favourite Korean actors' list.
I completely took my time with this one (considering that I downloaded it 2 years ago). It was a good watch, funny at times and there's Kim Myung Min ahjussi. The detective side of the film felt a bit dumb though, I don't think this film's potential was put to its full use.
I liked it though, a good watch.

I have to say I am a bit disappointed, so much potential with little stupid writer can ruin many things indeed.
I watched this drama solely for the legal/business theme and the two main lead ahjussis. I don't regret my choice; I patially enjoyed it. I am glad that the cases were the main point of this drama but I think that's the only thing that worked in here (but it would bother many people who are not into those fields).
Something was obviously wrong with the way this drama was written, the screenwriting was all over the place and things didn't connect. It wasn't a smooth watch at all and I kind of suffered a lot in the middle. I was trying to figure out what was on the writer's mind but I failed miserably. Also, cutting the drama two episodes short really showed even if the ending wasn't as bad as everyone says.
The acting is really worth the while though. Kim Myung Min and Kim Sang Joong ahjussi are always a pleasure and they nailed it as usual. I am a bit pissed that the latter's potential wasn't brought to its full use though. Park Min Young is a waste of space in this drama, I am glad that romance was crushed so badly in this.

Enjoyable drama overall, but it's definitely NOT for everyone.
LeejLicious Aug 2, 2014
I only saw Ip Man from this list and it was amazing. Donnie was on roll in that film that's why the latter sequels didn't do great without him. I partially blamed it on the screenwriting more than replacing Donnie with Dennis and Anthony though.

Seriously Miike, just how long are you going to keep directing interesting films? I am not complaining or anything but it's hard to cope along with 100+ filmography!

Anyway, this film seems just about right. Although I don't really like horror films but I do make exceptions and this will be one of those. A story within the story is such an intriguing idea! And the urban legend which this film is based on always attracted me.

And heck! The legend Nakadai will be in this film even as a supporting role.
On As the Gods Will Aug 1, 2014
Miike said about directing this film "“They live, some heads roll, they run, blood sprays, they cry, they laugh and then they die – in other words, a fun movie.”
I mean isn't that one more reason to completely love Miike? Gore is always fun (:

The girl is on roll for being 18 and coming into the world of Japanese cinema only this year! Two films' main roles in one year! In The World of Kanako, she plays side to side with few of the better Japanese actors Koji, Satoshi, Odagiri and Nakatani! I am going to keep my eyes on this one to see if she's any good. Until then, way to go girl!
