Review My Sassy Girl
The reason for the name is because it is a remake of the modern day drama My Sassy Girl, only set in Joseon period. (*^_^*)

We definitely need more female police officers/detectives/investigators in Asian dramas. Like Himekawa from Strawberry…
I know I am going to deeply regret replying to your argument but I have to say, you are absolutely WRONG, actually. There are literally dozens of American crime/detective shows, that have been on for more than a decade, that *ALL* have strong, independant female leads. I don't know what shows *you* have been watching, but to imply that women are not properly portrayed on television here is not at all accurate. Sure, there is a lot of reality tv crap and junk, but if you bothered to look, you would see. Try Blue Bloods and literally ALL of the Law and Order shows.

Oh, about Congress. I have no idea why you think that has anything to do with the subject but since you mentioned it, you do realize that Congress is voted in, right? So if there are more males than females there, it isn't some sort of conspiracy against our gender. It is because the majority of people decided they liked the person more.

Anyway, that's all I wanted to say. Keep on arguing and getting offended over nothing if you want. I just wanted to point that out.

the whitewashing itself is enough for me not to watch it but lmao i'm not surprised it's bad at all.
I think it could have worked with a white Light. Or with a Black Light. A Japanese American Light. Any race of Light. I still think the story is able to be adapted to any culture, actually. There are two problems, though. 1. Changing the personalties of the characters with the lame excuse that it was to better portray, culturally, an American teen. That was bullshit. There is no such thing. We do have stererotypes here in the US, though, and unfortunately, the stereotype of an American high school student is really pathetic and sad. It is a shame the writer decided to opt for changing the source material to that. >_<

Second, and this is the problem with every single adaption that has been recent. The ones writing the script are not anywhere near the same level of intelligence as the characters they are supposed to be writing about. The two main characters are geniuses of the top level and the whole story is about that. In the recent Japanese versions, they tried, but they simply could not understand and portray that level of intelligence. In this version, though, the writer did not even care enough to try and decided instead to just make it easy. Probably befause it was too much of an effort or too hard to do. Thus, failure.

Also, one thing to add that no one seemed to notice. The writer here tried to add a nod to Mello in in the second part of the movie. L's sudden meltdown into wtf was all Mello, down to the high speed police chase. However....why he thought it would even make sense to do that is beyond me. It is like, he was determined to get Mello in there and just did not care. Lol

I, too, disagreed that it was whitewashing. At first. For the same reason the other two repliers pointed out. However, I then happened to come across an article that so totally explains most every flaw of the movie and also points out that there is actually more to the whitewashing than just making the movie with white teens. Basically, the reviewer points out, not the fact that Light is white, but the fact that Light being white contributes greatly to his personality change in this adaption. How, because it was an American adaption, with a white, American guy as the lead character, he had to be a good guy in the end.

Here is a link to the article: http://www.looper.com/84314/real-reason-netflixs-death-note-movie-failed/

It made me totally rethink what whitewashing really is. Maybe the other two repliers might learn something, too. ;)

Nothing is a bigger trainwreck than Yong Pal. Nothing. It was the biggest trainwreck of all time. It was such a trainwreck that at times, I started to think it was actually written to be a trainwreck on purpose. >_<

Btw, I love the title you chose! Totally got me to click!

I thought this article was going to be about those dramas that were written badly and had a crazy ending that made no sense. (Like Missing 9, for instance). Instead, it was about endings just not personally liked. The title is kind of misleading. :/

It was still a good article, it just wasn't what I expected.
