A lot of people wonder why Nan Heng loves Song Yimeng and upon rewatching I thought the answer was quite obvious. He enjoys her simple mindedness & naïveté just as all the people who are close to him seem to be all slightly foolish & clumsy but loyal & kind like Fugui, Shangguan he, Nan Rui, Ah long, Ah hu. He likes people who are easy to read & simple bc he grew up in a scheming palace that forced him to be calculating & intelligent in order to survive. Remember when he was inspecting her things he initially thought it was a weapon when it turned out to be a head scratcher. She’s not very smart (not very good at math, science or English) but he loves her anyway. It’s also why he never fell for Song Yiting, she can write 80 poems & he can read 80 military manuals in a day, both are geniuses in their own right but they are too similar to each other to ignite a spark & opposites attract so that wouldn’t work. Song Yimeng is also the first person in his life that apologized for wronging him,defended him in front of the emperor, gave him multiple ‘first’ kisses, and a general quirkiness bc she’s not from this world that Nan Heng couldn’t help but fall for her.

The most unbelievable thing in the show is how the dad and the brother & the general somehow thought a 9yr old boy was somehow responsible for the empress’ death. Would it not make sense for his uncle to be the more suspicious suspect in the first place since he’s a grown ass man rather than the child?

Another thing I’m confused about. If the script forces Nan Heng to save Song Yimeng from dying everytime, how come that rule did not apply when she first appeared in the script where she died multiple times trying to get married to the general?

One thing I’m confused about, the scene where Li Shi Liu is applying medicine on Song Yimeng’s face after she blows up the weapons room, he puts the red powder on her face, and then says her face is blushing, is it actually blushing or was he distracted by her and accidentally put too much red powder on?

Dang AvenueX must really like this drama, she made like 3-4 videos about it and then puts it in the titles of her other videos. Also Chu Gui Hong might be the best villain ever? He won the first 2 timelines against our leads without prior knowledge that Song Yimeng had. That’s pretty impressive.

Wow I didn’t realize so many people are hating on the FML. Please remember, Nan Heng tried to kill her numerous times. He tried to shoot her with an arrow, choked her, drown her, poison her, tried various weapons on her…and that was in the span of 1 episode. And that’s excluding stuff from the original script where he cheated on her & turned her into a living corpse.It’s great that he’s now in love with her & all but the ONLY reason he stopped trying to kill her was because he realized he couldn’t which now allowed him time to fall in love with her but he wouldn’t have even gotten that opportunity had he gotten his way in the first place when he tried to kill her. I feel like the only reason the audience doesn’t feel the gravity of how traumatic that is for Song Yimeng was bc the murder attempts was done in such a comedic way…but nonetheless murder attempts. “But why can’t she see he’s good now he’s done so much for her?” Yeah sorry cool motive, still murder. You can put any other logical female in her place & there wouldn’t even be any love story bc you would fear for ur life & anyone that says different is clearly lying. And don’t ever forget, in the original script, Nan Heng initially convinced Song Yimeng that her loved her too. And while there are different changes to the script, there are also things that stayed the same, so in her POV it would be quite difficult to navigate that world & figure out who truly has good intentions bc originally Nan Heng fooled her that same way by love bombing her as well. And a lot of good deeds that Nan Heng does, we the audience see but Song Yimeng doesn’t get to see. And this is me speaking as someone who LOVES Nan Heng…but Song Yimeng had every right to act the way she did.

She falls in love early with his other identity but will not admit to loving his “real identity” till much later. You won’t really understand what that means until u watch I think.

She falls in love with his ‘other identity’ much earlier like as soon as she meets him in ep 6/7 I can’t remember. He falls in love by like ep10/11 ish. He falls really hard.

When Song Yimeng was snooping in Nan Heng's room trying to find evidence of his 'infidelity'. He catches her and says "No one likes being distrusted. For me, especially by YOU." I love that it has different meaning to both of them, respectively. To Song Yimeng, that quote probably means he has ulterior motives but to Nan Heng, he meant that he loves her and therefore doesn't like that she doesn't trust him. The script is so good!

“Those who disrespected me, has already died by my sword. Those who disrespect her….well try it.” Nan Heng is a WHOLE MAN. 😭

I love that in the beginning, you hear the keyboard whenever Nan Heng is forced to save Song Yimeng from dying but as he falls in love with her you don’t hear it anymore when he saves her bc it’s now from his own free will & affection for her. 😭

Nan Rui & Song Yimeng are actually pretty similar. Both have siblings (Nan Heng & Song Yiting ) are way beyond exceptional more than them but Nan Rui & Song Yimeng are more favored by their father.

He’s so brutal with his enemies but with Song Yimeng he’s all mushy and clingy. 😭

I love that it was 2 happy endings in the script & outside of the script. Usually they make it a sad ending from inside the novel and try to make it up to the audience by giving them a happy ending in modern time but this drama gave them super happy endings in both worlds.

The real Song Yimeng would be pissed that Song XiaoYu got everything she ever wanted with Nan Heng. 😭
