I love that in every reset, Nan Heng trust in Song Yimeng’s words without fail, every reset had so many changes but his trust in her remains the same. And I love that even after Nan Heng becomes emperor, she still calls him by his name and not your majesty, because she is so close to him that neither mind the informality. 😭
Wow Nan Heng have just became my favorite male character of all time. The aura, the charisma, the masculinity, the love he has for Song Yimeng. Incredible character storytelling.
My one question - why was he taking the box of spells??
When they separated after his father threatened her…we assume there is a time jump in between that scene and when he first saw her in the palace. So after they separated and he became a general he could have had a wife and we didn’t get to see it. Or it could be after she died and he wrote that letter to his descendants, he could have had found a wife after Hong Jo died.
Wow. What an episode. So the scenes finally connect. Present Shin Yu saw the past Hong Jo walk by in a previous episode, it was her walking in the palace. I’ve always wondered why Hong Jo would write such dark spells and it’s because she was forced by the concubine. Pregnancy spell. Cursing the crown prince. And it’s such a smart move on her part to let the King know that whoever kills her will be cursed, such a badass moment for Aeng Cho. The tone in her face, the redness in her eyes. And it showed how every men feared her, and Shin Yu was the one man that didn’t fear her curse. So Shin Yu killed her himself to protect her from being dismembered. Don’t forget his father threatened to have her stripped naked and give her to a group of men. Maybe in that lifetime, him killing her himself was mercy. Because the alternative was so much worse. She’s been tortured and punished for using magic. He tried to save her from death. But her life was just so miserable from beginning to end. She only had small moments of happiness whenever she was with Jang Mu Jin. And even that is fleeting.He realized death was her only way of out this misery. You would put your dog down to save them from pain, wouldn’t you? Its the same analogy. And I actually did not expect the SML to be in the past. And it seems his morality always depended on money in some level. Back then, it was 500 gyeol of land, now it is 30 billion won. And Shin Yu’s dad hired bodyguards for him. And he hired bodyguards for Hong Jo lol. So they rich rich.
I finally did some rewatch of earlier episodes and I found many inklings where Shin Yu started to develop feelings for Hong Jo before any spells were casted:
1) Hong Jo told Shin Yu she was lonely from eating alone and wanted to take down the shrine to make her coworkers more welcoming towards her. He seemed to soften towards her enough to give her the info of the shaman.
2) They seemed to have a moment in the forest the day of the demolition of the shrine. Wind was blowing, mysterious music was playing, and they stared at each other, curious.
3) The day after the boxed opened on its own. Shin Yu seemed jealous and asked her why she was blushing or tucking her hair when SML was there.
4) Shin Yu walks her home after she was almost attacked by a drunk man. He comments she should file a complaint to have street lights installed or have her family walk her home. She responds that she doesn't have any family. He seems to feel a type of way about that and has a flashback of her saying she doesn't have anyone to eat with, their first encounter in his office.
5) Hong Jo apologizes to her boss and coworkers at the chicken place, then all the men came to join them. He keeps observing her while she drinks. Shin Yu gets jealous and snarky that SML would comment such a stupid thing, civil servants are supposed to be nice to citizens anyways. The men leaves the restaurant and that's where Hong Jo confesses to SML and gets rejected...AND SHIN YU SHOWS UP AND SAYS, "IN WHAT WAY WAS THAT BOY NICE?" This boy literally stayed around. Waited for her to finish her food and drinks. To watch her leave the restaurant and watch her confess to SML. And confronts her about it. He was already so far gone, I'd say.
6) News spread about her failed confesssion. Hong Jo looks for Shin Yu as culprit. After showing her he wasn't the one that spread the news, she leaves the office. His face shows he doesn't really like what's going on or spreading around.
It’s utterly endearing that Shin Yu is so receptive to Hong Jo’s kisses. He’s just always ready and willing Lmao. Na Yeon couldn’t even get one from him without so much effort and energy and with Hong Jo he’s just giving out kisses like candy. He’s like a grumpy bulldog with everyone else and a puppy when he’s with Hong Jo. In a continuation of this drama, it’s just like a rich husband spoiling his wife, I would totally watch that, by the way. I find it so romantic that Shin Yu knew who the Red Hand was and still wanted to be with her. He was willing to take the excruciating pain just to be by her side. And that twist where he knew this whole time Na Yeon was cheating…either he was saving that for this very moment or he just allowed her to save face until she pushed him too far, smart and satisfying. Am I sensing a family dinner with Hong Jo, soon? That’s exciting and a interesting dynamic to be explored. See ya next week, folks.
Today’s episode was so cute, though! I just love how cool and collected Shin Yu is in his lawyer scenes and then he just turns into a clingy little puddle of mush when he’s with Hong Jo. And it’s very clear he’s so scared of losing her.

I think people just like to hate in general. Yes, there are valid criticisms of the show but they acting like this is the worst thing ever. It’s fairly entertaining to me lol.
I remember in the first few episodes when Hong Jo ordered food for Shin Yu without bracken…I thought it was odd at the time when I watched it because how did she know? Was that her recalling stuff from her past life? If so, it was much earlier than Shin Yu then
