When I first started, I admired Kdramas too. The directing, script, acting, cinematography, OST etc so far generally are still above dramas from the other countries. Even the youth Kdramas (with new/unknown actors/actresses and short episodes) are well done (like from the Playlist). Another plus, they cater to us by providing English subs so fast, unlike other countries that are slower or not subbed until some fan subbers picked them up, need to hunt them down, lol. I only become gradually watching Cdramas because they have so many romcoms that are my preferred genre. The only thing I know for sure that may deter non Asians watching dramas is that they have to read the sub instead of hearing it straight. That's what I heard in a radio talk show (I'm in the US) when they talked about Parasite that won Academy Awards.
