This is easily my favorite of the Strongberry shorts. Everything from the mood lighting, to the heated energy…
My bl brain would have preferred the two exes to get back together in the end, but my realism brain loves that this show isn't about that. I really enjoyed seeing the interaction between two people who used to know each other, and I think the actors nailed that kind of awkward skirting around the past that exes do.
This is easily my favorite of the Strongberry shorts. Everything from the mood lighting, to the heated energy of the kitchen contrasting against the quiet of the chatter at the dining table, to the secrets being held, to the chef's hair I really love.
Loved the main couple, I wish we saw a little more from the younger brother's perspective or that we got a more clear conversation between all three. I will definitely be checking out the other Strongberry films!
When I first heard of this show I had hoped it would be a more intense drama surrounding taboo topics (incest,…
I also was grumpy that we didn't get to see Prab and Chol get together. I was shaking my fist that we didn't get a cute scene of them in their pjs in Chol's room, giggling and chatting, maybe looking at the moon, as one shyly confessed to the other.... But then that is literally exactly what happens in the cut scenes from ep 12. So, I shall just slide those scenes right back into the show and act as if they were never cut in the first place.
When I first heard of this show I had hoped it would be a more intense drama surrounding taboo topics (incest, student/teacher) but, like all the other commenters say, this was one of the simplest cutesy bls I have seen. This show's target audience is probably young teens: none of the drama is that in depth or tense, none of the characters have any real flaws or hatred for anyone else, no problems get dragged on for a long time. Everything is simple and basic. I don't think the production quality is that great, but it isn't awful either. All in all pretty meh, I would have dropped this except I kept watching hoping for a bit of more serious drama (it never came).
I enjoyed the murder mystery elements to this show quite a bit. Although they sometimes frustratingly didn't seem to follow any kind of police or hospital procedure, once you got past the mess of the first 6 or 7 episodes I feel like the mystery hit its stride and you could have a fun (*ahem* easy) time puzzling out who did what. As for the romance elements to this show... while Max and Tul are hot, as always, I really think that pretty much their entire romantic/sexual plot line felt out of place and strange compared to the tone and pacing of the rest of the show. Especially with how out of the blue their move to domesticity was in the first few eps. The only romantic scene that I liked and thought was in tone with the rest of the show was their shower scene, where it felt like they just had to touch each other and reassure themselves that the other was still there. Overall, this show was fun, but in quite a few places I felt there was shoddy production. From poor music choices, to strangely empty/low-budget sets, to unusual character decisions, this show didn't quite live up to my expectations.
I was a little dissapointed that the stalker ex boyfriend plotline solved itself way too fast haha, but props…
Me too! I was surprised at how threatening the stalker guy felt, and I was excited that the show was taking a dark turn. But then ! it was solved! You don't even see his trial, or Yeon Seo giving a statement about him, or anything that really wraps up that storyline. He is just arrested and then gone. I also liked the murder case. I usually was able to guess what the next twist would be, but it was still interesting.
This was a light and enjoyable show. The first two episodes were laugh out loud funny in how they parodied k-dramas, but then the show slowly petered off into just average territory. Nothing really terrible, nothing incredibly interesting either. The law office crew remained a joy to watch through the whole season. My one complaint is that there were several times that seemingly-huge plot points were introduced only to be resolved not even ten minutes later. You almost got whiplash from how quickly some things came and went.
You forgot to mention a second ghost story thrown in. Because one is never enough. Do the new subtitles explain…
I don't know anything about new subtitles, I didn't need them to watch. I agree the second ghost story was a little (very) excessive, but it was some fun campy drama so I didn't terribly mind. The Principal hated the volleyball team because she hated the gay people in it, especially the kathoey, because ever since her husband left her for another man, she has lumped all gay folks together as filthy, immoral cheaters. She thought her son (North) would get corrupted if he stayed there with them.
The main couple, Wei Wei and Xiao Nai, were far too sugar sweet for my taste, especially in the first half of the season. They are so old-fashionedly feminine and masculine, pink and blue, chaste princess and white knight, and I found them just too perfect to be really interesting. I do have a bone to pick with the fact that Wei Wei rarely gets the chance to show her computer skills. When she interns at Zhiyi she does one or two tasks for Ah Shuang (and she does them well!!) and then she is relegated to just fetching dinners and bringing tea and taking care of the boys. The writers transition her into the traditionally feminine role of being a secretary/personal assistant rather than being the trailblazing female computer engineer that she is supposed to be. Sure, she is still a student compared to the guys who have already graduated, but she could have helped them out developing the game in some capacity. Come the second half of the season, once they have settled into their relationship and the courting days have subsided, I did like their relationship a bit more, but they still were very much a perfect lady and her stoic gentleman suitor. And sure, it is romantic and sweet and so gentlemanly how Xiao Nai wants to care for her and keep her out of the rain and such, but it is frustrating that by protecting her like that and doting on her he never really supports her or provides opportunities for her to grow in the field they both are working in. For example the entire company is working overtime to finish this project but Xiao Nai pats her head and lets her have the weekend or the afternoon off to go have cake with a friend? Again, this kind of thing is sweet and romantic but frustrating that she gets special treatment (she should be there, using her skills and working hard with all the other employees).
I did enjoy the in-game drama, and the tension that builds while you wait for people to figure out who is who online versus in real life, but there are fair stretches of time where all that in-game drama is pushed to the background and you have to wait several eps for it to pick back up again.
And my little gaydar pinged when you first see Hao Mei and KO meet in the cafeteria. This show goes on to include some of the moments from their bl side story (they are a couple in the novel) but here in the show they have a more ambiguous relationship. This was an unexpected but enjoyable little side couple in the latter half of the show.
This was fun. No, the plot isn't incredibly well thought out, there were some strange discrepancies here or there, but it was an enjoyable short watch. Surprisingly comedic in the second half.
I liked this one. It was quite blue, and kind of left you feeling tired and worn out, but in a good way. Kind of like how crying can be soothing. Tonally it really reminded me of In Between Seasons. Krit was a bit pushy and overwhelming at times, but I dunno, I kind of liked seeing a character that was flawed like that. To me his pushiness made the loss of their relationship feel more poignant, because it really made them feel young and inexperienced (at the start, when they are in high school), and you do kind of pity them because they are just children who are experiencing only the first of probably many heartbreaks to come.
I rather enjoyed this show and I don't think it is anywhere near as bad as some of the other reviews say. I really think the poor eng-subbing available on Line turned people off this show, but with better subs this would get much better reviews. That being said, it is true that the production quality isn't top notch, but I still thought the actors did an okay job and I was drawn into the various storylines and couples (except Mai and Wan. Yes, they had sex scenes, but those scenes really came out of the blue and felt just shoved into the show for no real reason?). I also enjoyed the somewhat slow pacing: I watched an ep or two every night before bed for a chill evening. My main problem with the show was just that there is a pretty large cast and it was a little tricky in the beginning to remember who was who. And there were an excessive amount of small side characters who were introduced, had one dramatic scene, and then you never saw from again (all of these guys should have been cut out). This really feels more like an everyone drama than a bl, both in the pacing and in the focus given to a lot of different characters' story arcs (compared to the usual bl story which has one main couple, two sides).
I think because I didn’t really like/pay attention to Tin and Can in s1, I was fine with them having a rewrite because I hadn't been that invested in their original storyline anyway. I thought this season was fine, it was on par with many other basic Thai uni bls. Tum and Tar were my favorite couple, and I am sad they were mostly written out. Ae was angsty (but not as excessively so as some comments make him seem. He quit his bender around ep 5 or so), Kla and Techno were problematic (but kind of cute? If you completely ignored their shitty history together, then they do have a cute story in this season), and Tul and Hin were interesting (but they did have a few strange master/servant moments). Overall meh, could have been far better, could have been far worse.
This show really made me want to rewatch Reminders... Saint is hot as hell there, and you can kind of pretend it is LBC s2.
I really enjoyed the high school section of this show: it walked the line between cute bl and more serious gay…
I like how the show handled Pai’s parents finding out he was in love with a man. The parents don’t understand at first, and they are upset. Pai is upset, and his crying at the dinner table really was hard to watch. I really appreciate though that the parents went to therapists to talk about their worries and to learn about how to be more accepting. They are working on their differences because they still care for their son, even if at first they couldn’t understand or support his actions. I feel like this is the one serious and touching topic that has felt in line with the emotional weight of the high school segment of the show.
I really enjoyed the high school section of this show: it walked the line between cute bl and more serious gay drama very well. The high school section touched on sex (the importance of safe sex!), HIV, the importance of true friends, how love can be platonic but powerful, loss of a parent, domestic abuse, socioeconomic differences, how those differences can affect your schooling and then your prospects as an adult, and more. I liked the slow pacing and slice of life tone in the high school section, and was a little let down by the college portion which felt more cheesy and bl-y (especially the inclusion of the Dao Duen contest). I wish that they had actually studied at different schools for a year or two, and then the show picked up with them meeting again after a long time. I really loved the tone of Pai's grief at the end of the high school section when Itt pushed him away, and I think that those long days apart would have helped prolong that slightly serious and melancholic vibe through into the college section.
There were very few things I liked about the college portion of this show, because I feel like all the good mojo and emotional growth that the characters were going through in the first half of the series totally stalled in the college portion. Gone were all the touching moments in the hospital dealing with family and grief, gone were the fluffy and endearing scenes of them studying together and slowly growing to appreciate each other, gone were the moments of true friendship and support, gone was that delicate and beautiful and kind of sad fleeting feeling of youth. The later episodes honestly felt like an entirely separate show to me because so little of what made the characters special carried over from the high school section. Also, I pretty much never got a romantic vibe coming from Itt at all. Maybe I am being a little too harsh: the college portion of the show is just fine for a very basic run of the mill Thai bl. It is just in comparison to the nugget of awsomeness that was growing in the earlier episodes that the college episodes feel bland and cliche. (Okay, the one redeeming factor I have put in the spoilers below.)
I also liked the murder case. I usually was able to guess what the next twist would be, but it was still interesting.
