i rly don't get the part when choi youngshin and jbr was talking. How will passing a bill to let babies with psychopathic…
It’s quite the opposite, actually. CYS believed that fetuses found to have the psychopathic gene should be aborted. Letting and triggering JBR to become a killer was a way to shape public opinion especially since JBR was the nation’s son. CYS wanted the people to be enraged at JBR and in turn, support the bill. Apparently, it worked as people approved of the bill even after people knew of the workings of the OZ.

The FL is trying hard to be like Jun Ji Hyun ( Legend of the Blue Sea)... Her body language is very much copycat…
Her body language and manner of speech in the beginning of the drama is actually close to Lee Honey’s character in the Fiery Priest, which was the writer’s previous drama.

I hated the fact that Han Seo was killed but with the theme of this drama, I guess we should have expected it? The two guys who killed the father of Cha Yong were killed even though they were of great help to Vincenzo. Han Seo was aware of the addictive quality of the pain meds Babel was developing, their employees dying and was also abusive to his employees. Yes, there was character development but then there were people who also died because of Han Seo allowing himself to be a puppet of his brother. Personally, it would have been better if he was jailed (like the ending for The Fiery Priest) but this drama was darker and had this you reap what you sow theme.

Title L.U.C.A.: The Beginning Spoiler
Oh my, what an ending. Drama had many frustrating moments but if there was a message this drama conveyed to me, it is the reinforcement of my belief that science/technology should have its limits in the sense that humans playing god can lead to disastrous events especially when human greed comes into play. At the same time, it asks the question, what does it mean to be human? Zi O, a creation of a mad scientist was seen as a commodity, an object of research and a potential source of power and immense wealth. However, he was more human than his “parents” and the other characters, even Gu Reum. Towards the end he became more proactive in using his powers and approved of his cloning. And this happened because he was continuously harassed and cornered. Perhaps his father was right in that he is more superior than humans. While he is seen as a product of an experiment, I think the drama shows that we, humans, should not be arrogant in claiming superiority as the human specie may be overpowered by its own creation someday.

Title L.U.C.A.: The Beginning Spoiler
At this point, the story is just frustrating for me. What happened to Gu Reum’s character? I keep on thinking it’s because she just gave birth that’s why she’s so vulnerable to the point that she does not seem to be a detective at all. I hope that she is bluffing but it’s just frustrating watching her fall for the lies regarding her parents and Zi O. I know the truth matters to her but she spent a lot of time with Zi O compared with the detective and Kim Chul Soo. She said it herself that she was perfectly framed for murder. I just wish she was bluffing the whole time. Otherwise, I don’t think she deserves Zi O.

Also, as Yoona said, what is Lee Son’s obsession with his arm? Surely, he was able to break in Yoona’s room. If he wanted to, they can escape. So his reason of protecting Yoona is not believable to me.

Did anyone else get absolutely disgusted by the ridiculous amount of torture in episode six? Like watching this…
I, too, felt awful. I think that was done on purpose so we could connect more with Zi O’s pain and mindset. It even got me thinking about how animals are used for research purposes.

Title L.U.C.A.: The Beginning Spoiler
I might be the only one, but the ML doesn't act his age. he acts like he's in his teens or 20s, always pouting,…
For me, the behavior of Zi O is consistent with his experiences. The guy lacks social connections and loses his memories periodically that he basically does not know who he is. Restraint is something that we learn as we age through our experiences as we get accustomed with social norms. However, even people who are considered as “normal” storm out at times and the times that he stormed out are understandable - feeling if betrayal and anger. If I remember right, those times were when he felt betrayed as Gu Reum wanted him to be tested and second, when he went to his “friendl after GR’s kidnapping. There were moments he looked like a child - when he was initially talking to his “father” and that is understandable as GR said that he was the one who held the key to his identity. However, we can see him change after the three-weeks experiments.

As for his GR’s interest in Zi O, aside from him holding a key to GR’s questions, her allowing him to stay at her house is because her investigation to her parent’s disappearance is a covert investigation. Turning him over the police at that point would make it difficult for her to seek the truth. We see that she was convinced by her father like figure to turn him over but unfortunately, he was killed. Also, she did not completely trust him at first as she even pointed a gun at her when he entered her room. Show also flashed a memory of GR where Zi O said he was also human and witnessed how he was called a monster by the nun. I can sense that them both being alone at a young age made their connection stronger with GR feeling pity for him at times.

While the show may seem that not much is progressing, if we look deeper, Zi O’s character shows growth as he develops his bond with GR. From hiding and escaping, he was willing to fight back and while he ended up being caught, he learned more about who he was and how his supposed father viewed him. On a physical level, the test seemed to have strengthened him. On the other hand, while I initially thought she was careless by going to the lab, that was all she could do because again, she was doing a covert investigation. We also see well-meaning people advising her to love forward from her past and she does listen but understandably, moving forward with so many questions is difficult. So she still persists, but gets closer to the truth in episode 6.

Personally, as the episodes moved forward, I became more involved with the drama as it made me really ponder on the question “what makes an entity a human being.”

I don't know in detail about the society of South Korea, and I don't think anyone here is from South Korea, but…
The ending for me was perfect given the social norms in Korea. While there has been progress in accepting the LGBT community in SK in recent years, to have an ending where SB stayed in SY’s body will cause controversy. I have Korean friends who only saw open members of the LGBT community when they went abroad.

If you also look at the history of Korea and Japan, they have similar problems in the sense that these countries progressed economically at a very fast rate but their traditional values remained intact. For example, seniority based on age which can cause bullying problems at work and frustration among younger competent workers who are less likely to climb up the corporate ladder because of their age.

The problem was the bad writing that made the lack of ML's screentime super evident. CJ has been absent before…
How will you show the resolution of BI’s unrequited feelings towards SY given his past behaviors in the past episodes?

Anyway, HJ actually did what you wished BI would do.
What she did was courageous because at one time, CJ liked her. For BI, while he may appear cliche, he basically has no family to call his own so for him to be obsessed with SY and let his life revolve around getting her is plausible.

However, as was pointed out by others as well, this is just one episode of the drama leading to the final week. You might be in for a surprise this weekend with this episode woven beautifully with the final two episodes.

They are voicing out their reaction to the characters and story because of the characters. BI is an antagonist in the story. Of course the comments about him will be negative. There’s a difference in comments that criticize the character and the writing. (Example, comments on the last episodes of Uncanny Counter or even Start Up where they would say, writer-nim...). His behavior may be incoherent to some but that is what obsession can do.

I would not want to change anything about episode 18. It helps in making the whole series coherent. The lack of CJ’s screen time was necessary. If he was shown to be alive and we see the cries of the queen and HJ, their cries will evoke less emotion from the audience as opposed to him being thought as dead/alive but no evidence that he is alive.

I advise you to be wary of such information. A look at his filmography would show that if he has huge backup connections, he should have gotten more work. Also, may I ask, what kind of scenes would you have wished the king to be in in episode 19? Because for me, his lack of screen time makes sense. Similar with the time that the character of Gong Yoo in Goblin or Song Joong Ki in Descendants were thought to be dead.

His role is unlikeable and cliche, yes. However, giving more screen time to him for the last episode/latest episodes makes sense story-wise because it details his plans. If these were not detailed then the attacks on the king would all feel random. Also, if the king appeared right away, it would be less dramatic.

Wait!! Kim Jung Hyun is doing just a cameo in this drama?? I'm so disappointed in this episode. It is very unfair…
The drama is composed of 20 episodes. Just because BI has more screen time in this episode does not mean that KJH is no longer the male lead. It actually makes sense that he has less screen time for this episode as he is supposed to be dead and thus, we also feel his absence to a degree as with what the characters are feeling. His appearance at the end of the episode provides a dramatic effect, a confirmation of what Sobong believes- he is alive.

Also, with regards to the ratings, there was a slight increase for last night’s episode.

I guess it’s because his behaviors causes conflicts in the show. If his scenes will be removed, the drama may not last 20 episodes.

As with previous comments, the first two episodes remind me of Awaken with the ML being called a demon and the experiments done on him. However, I find this drama as better executed in terms of making us understand what is going on early on which made me connect with the characters more.
