It's very normal to have one's fight-or-flight responses turned off at times of crisis. Happens to many people, they just freeze, unable to move. The FL here seems to be such a person.

Okay, here are some thoughts:
1. Che was younger than Run when their family died so he could have been more traumatised.

2. Run was with QY and only saw the family dead when he went there, while Che was in the pile of dead bodies, under his mom, he must have actuallyseen the killingat that age, and he must have gone through a more difficult path thereafter.

3. We don't know the backstory yet of how it happened, but Run is now very close to the emperor and a very powerful official. So, he has more responsibility and rationality.

4. Run did ruin 2 chances of killing Wei Daren, he was right in front of Run and he ran off to save XQY instead. 1 time when the bandits were attacking, the other time at the cliff. If XQY hadn't been there, Run would almost certainly have killed Wei.

Yes, it's not read out, but while QingYuan had made him write everything was fine, Madam Hou changed the letter. It seems the mother's health condition was informed to him and he panic-decided to fight the battle instead of waiting for the right time so he could reach his mother. He died by enemy arrows.

They're very much attracted to each other, and eventually fall for one another, but neither can own it up till they resolve their own massive personal issues.
