Sorry for the late reply, but yeah this show is very 00s. But don't be scared to watch other older shows because of this.

In fact 90s Jdrama feel different, they are actually more realistic in acting than the 00s (Kono yo no Hate 1994, tokyo Love Story 1991, Long Vacation 1996, Beach Boys 1997 etc), something happened in the early 00s where they got extra experimental and cringe (sometimes in a good way) lol

I think there are serial killer cases in the US that is similar to this korean one where people hear there is a serial killer around but still act normal despite the warnings.

But that's what actually happened with this serial killer case in real life, a guy went to jail for like 18 years, and he finally got released and has been paid a lot of money.

I understand that you would have liked the movie to make it clearer that people were scared. But yeah once again, women going out alone still happened, because...they got killed in real life.

I can't remember the details of the movie but I'm sure the women were warned somehow in the news etc, even if the movie didn't actually show that. The same story appears in Signal TV show too.

You said one plot hole was the women still going out alone, well this is what happened in real life. That's how he found his victims, many people still don't think something will happen to themselves, life goes on and they have things to do.

So I don't think it's a plot hole since this has always happened in many real life serial killer cases. That's all I'm saying. There are probably other actual plot holes, that's just what stood out to me, which made me think you didn't know about real serial killer cases. But you do, so I know now.

King of Pigs goes over a similar theme, but it's better imo.

I know this comment is old, but...just so you know this movie is based on a true story, a real serial killing that happened. So a lot of the plot holes you mentioned actually happened haha. Just not exactly the same way. The sad thing is in real life they arrested a guy and he went to prison for a long time because he falsely confessed after being tortured by police.

That's why the detective looks at the camera right at the end of the movie, he's looking at the serial killer that go away, who might be watching the movie.

BUT in the last few years they actually found the real serial killer, he was already in prison for other crimes.

I agree though that while I respect subtitle makers, their discord and all the rules, the whole general vibe is just over the top gatekeeping. If I made subtitles I would just post them here for you, I would want as many people as possible to enjoy the Japanese shows I like.
