I really loved it. It was very refreshing and as someone who loves Korean history, it was such a good time watching this and learning more about the Koreans in Japan. I learned about Joseon under Japanese rule and all that, but never really learned about the Koreans in Japan during that time. Very touching moments, very meaningful ones too. I loved all those details put there for those who understand their meanings. Can’t wait for season 2.

I didn’t say they were trying to kill him but wishing he’d die, whether it be for real or out of anger. I know the secretaries don’t actually want to kill him. ☺️

Yes what you’re saying makes sense IF that was what the screenwriter did, however I didn’t feel at all like there was a « replacing oneself  » kind of thing.

That is not how I understood it. I do not think the person is REPLACED by the other version of himself, no. How I understood what happened : The Ghost was the one who used the device in order to send everyone back to the past. I mean, she kinda rewinded the time, so it’s not that they were replaced by their future selves, it’s just that the whole events with the ghost being captured was erased except from their memories. As the ghost was the one who used the device, they were not the time travellers, the ghost is. You can time travel and be at the same place as the other version of yourself as long as you’re the one using the device. That’s how I understood it.

While watching the episode again with my sister we realized when the bureau lady came to the orphanage the orphanage…
But the orphanage woman didn’t recognise the Ghost as being the one who visited (Jong Yi), she just said that Jong Yi was the name of the other woman who visited and that Jong Yi was also asking about a woman (the ghost) and that Jong Yi showed her a drawing (the ghost’s sketch), and when the AB lady showed her the same sketch, the orphanage lady recognised it (the sketch, drawing) and said “Oh yes, this one”. Or did we both watch with 2 different translations?

I doubt they’ll give us any more backstory for the signer but if you know korean history then it’s very easy to guess that due to the fact she was korean, she was probably s*lly abused by the rich japanese or at least forced to comply and sell her body unwillingly. We could see that when that old man was touching her inappropriately, she didn’t react even though her face showed all the emotions and disgust. She was powerless and there was nothing she could do but there was one way she could escape those men: death. And so it looks like she decided to take her own life. Which also seems like it was premeditated because she said to Sunja «I’ll sing for all of us tonight» (sign for all of us Korean women and our sufferings because of the Japanese Empire… is what I understood). So she planned to sing in Korean, which is not allowed. If she didn’t take her own life she’d probably be imprisoned and tortured for rebelling, therefore I believe and the movie kinda suggests it, she planned to take her own life beforehand.
