Oof. Was going to warn you then I saw you realized anyways. But it’s pretty common for the extremely morally upright character in dramas to die early. Nil I was waiting for the moment when watching.
But as others said, the sweet spot came at 4 and Cha-Young’s growth comes after her father’s death (do have some reservations about that). I do love her now but I didn’t like her at first.

No, he’s a fan of the drama, though. I think you might have had that misconception based on something you saw on social media.

Just curious, but why is it called Descendants of the Sun?
What is the ‘sun’? An empire, a government, or literally just a metaphor of the Greek location?
Why are they descendants? Do they have to complete a mission? Or does it mean descending and not like the inheritors (or later generation)? Is descending related to the military theme?
I swear I had such huge misconceptions of this drama’s premise before I read the synopsis.
Totally thought ‘Descendants of the Sun’ would be a sageuk and be about the fight for a throne by two warring factions descending from great empires.

I agree with what JYB said in a recent interview, that the noun Mafia is really just a villain with a different nationality-that really is how Vincenzo's backstory is grounded in, they're just using an external force to disrupt the inner troubles because they can't use a villain inside.

She is unlikable in the start. I think the writing was average in the first few episodes, and then for some reason it got a lot better. I would say looking back that her arc mostly makes sense from start to finish though. And I ended up loving her character.

Agreed. It is overrated, the start was boring to me, but I went in with zero expectations towards the drama or actors so I wasn't crestfallen or surprised. Then I got to the end of episode 3 and I got really hooked. I think if you watch the show on a surface level of its comedy and cool moments, then it's pretty average, but if you kind of think about the social commentary (which is a little bit muddled from the comedy) then I really do like it. I feel like Vincenzo is more a concept than anything, and the background is a slightly floaty set-up that brings you into a story that brings you a new perspective on corruption and evil. At the same time I feel like the show didn't get the balance very well so you have to switch between taking certain scenes seriously and taking other scenes with a grain of salt.
Above said is mostly a conclusive feeling though. It's a really nice flow when you watch it (based on my own experience).
I would at least recommend you to give it a try!
P.S. Tbh, I did not get SJK's visuals in the start, but he pleasant looking, so it didn't bother me. I think his character had a fuller explanation later on so his charisma fleshed out Vincenzo. But I think many people were definitely waiting for a comeback from SJK.

Yes. This drama named the building 'Geumga Plaza', but the actual name is 'Chonggye Plaza'. It's gained more traction recently as it wasn't really used as a filming location in the past. I think it appeared in another drama as well, but I don't remember which one.

I don't know about why every single drama is basically a lot more highly rated than its due on the site (personally, it is true there are a lot of fans of certain actors on MDL, but I would be inclined to say that most comments are civil enough that it's not like the appearance of an actor simply causes people to give a mindlessly high rating, though there for sure is bias). I think other rating sites like IMDb are more broad based in terms of audiences and have more critical analysis. Either way, the general rule I use is to take an MDL score and take away 0.7 points from the current rating to get a measured average opinion.
I agree, I feel like this drama would be a 8.0 if you consider all aspects, but of course I'm biased.

Good to see the Vincenzo cast all booked! He was great in Vincenzo, will check it out when it comes out.

Super interesting read! I was surprised clicking into this article as I didn't realize the drama was so anticipated (I saw it hover around the top popular C-Dramas) for a while.

To give some background info, I dropped it 2 episodes in because I didn't really think the plot was going anywhere and I don't really like forcing myself to go through stuff. As it was initially airing, many Chinese Netizens were expecting it to become the next 'GoGoSquid', which also has the computer-ish aspect and a cute, innocent female lead (and became a huge hit). The initial trailers had a lot of skinship scenes, so everyone thought it would be heavily peppered with skinship (I guess it ended up being in the latter half of the show). Most comments I read from netizens were about how the first eight episodes or so weren't really gripping and that they were misled after the trailers (which, I suppose, was different from your experience).
I was pretty surprised by the cinematography. I quite like that balloon scene in the first two episodes, thought that was funny. But since the drama is a romance drama, chemistry comes first and I (personally) didn't feel it.

I won't continue watching it, but the show has pretty decent reviews so far, so it probably falls in the gap where it's not one most people would be raving mad about, but not bad, either. To be honest, I didn't feel much about the dubbing (whether singing or just talking), since I'm so used to it with C-Dramas now.

I'm guessing you don't watch c-dramas then. (Even though each episode is around 1 hour 20 mins, which I was like, wow)- I saw the episode number and I thought, 20? Oh wow, how short!
(But since C-Dramas are 40 mins-ish per episode, then yeah, this would translate into 40 episodes, that's true)

To give another perspective, I loved the drama a lot but I didn't really like the comedy. However, comedy isn't integral to the plot.
It also got me till the end of the second episode to want to find out more.
(Also, the highlight moments of this show comes in multitudes of 4 (in episodes))
And yeah, like another user mentioned, the romance is a sideline.

No matter what, I will recommend this drama to everybody.

I agree! At the same time I suspect my exploration into the BTS is an unfulfilled feeling of the on-screen romance, so I'm trying to keep it at bay. I think the slow burn really highlighted the chemistry, though. The way it was written in was majorly helpful.
And I did like the ending regardless! So hopefully you feel the same way.

I was expressing astonishment since dramas usually have ratings go down after the initial round.
I gave it a 9 too, but it's a personal rating. If I took into account what most people feel and the flaws, I would give it an 8.
That's also just my opinion though. I guess most think it should be at a 9.

I know your last sentence is more like an exclamation and a joke, but I also want to answer, no, it's fine to ship people as long as it doesn't become forceful and revolve around everything about them. I think I have a little bit a guilty conscience that makes me imagine how actors would feel, but sometimes the chemistry is just sizzling. So far I've toned it down to just the tv show couple, though, which is thankful.
Heart attack? The ending has some mixed reactions so I hope you liked the remaining half regardless.
