HL's mom is quite a character!
There's a funny side-story about her in the novel (which I don't think we'll get to see in the drama...). In her younger days she was a famous beauty in the capital and the emperor made a pass at her. She then smashed a stone bench (in the palace garden, I presume) while looking at him and smiling. Since then the emperor is afraid of her and thinks that despite being under her thumb, HL's father is a real man and a true hero.

Tolerance seems to be a dying artform...

Well, fans in China seem to be going apeshit over just about anything. I find this collective hysteria very worrying.
We all love certain actors/actresses, dramas, novels, etc. but it's important to keep them in a healthy perspective.
For some it seems fancult has become a sort of substitute religion and now there's even "religious wars"...

If they cut it beyond recognition to force everything into 40 episodes, the quality will suffer. Cutting so much in post-production seems such a waste!

For anyone who, like me, knows nothing about historical costumes, all that matters is that they look pretty and for once it's not all just pastel colours.

I didn't take it to mean that he was there at the battle ten years ago, but whoever is behind him was also behind that battle. I guess he is a prince from another small kingdom.

True. I'm really enjoying the fact that for once there's no deluded and obsessive SFL. Also loved the way Jiamin brushed off Prince Ying. He will still need a lot of work until he finally gets it!

I will definitely check out her other stuff depending on the genre... I like her style. It's deliciously irreverent and even rather MTL-friendly...

Considering how hen-pecked HL's father is, I don't think there will be any danger of the Crown Prince ever getting his hands on any concubines... but he will be able to have as many cats as he likes... 🤣🤣🤣

Thanks! I didn't really expect an answer to the second question, it was more a rhetorical question...
I guess I'll wait with starting this until it has aired completely to avoid watching something that ends on a cliff-hanger. Hope the producers have resisted the temptation of not having a decent ending.

Yes, I've noticed the red eyes, too. I don't think it's an eye-liner problem as it is just visible in a few scenes. It looks like a bad case of conjunctivitis to me and the Empress Dowager seems to have the same problem in a few scenes, so my thought was that it may have been an allergic reaction to the make-up.

Yeah, there seem to be a lot of this type of drama around... usually the over-use of pink and glittery CGI is a dead give-away!
I gave up on it because 1) I really hate the transmigration trope and 2) the ML is so thoroughly unlikeable that it makes absolutely no sense for a supposedly clever and independent woman to stick around.

If she was doing too good a job of the sick-acting most viewers wouldn't get that it's fake, so she has to exaggerate the fake-acting.
I cannot say that I find the maid particularly annoying, her loud screaming is all part of the fake-act (they work as a team). I've seen a lot more annoying maids whining around in other dramas, without faking it.

Quite a few people have said this but I don't think they really look alike. It's just the way he rolls his eyes while keeping a straight face that is very similar to Vengo's Donghua Dijun.

I think the pace will have to pick up quite dramatically in the second half. I'm reading the novel in parallel and what happened so far covers approx. the first 30 chapters. So there are another 115 chapters to go...

Hahaha, I know the feeling... it happened to me in the past.
I've tried one ep of Twin Flower Romance - didn't like it - so I rewatched some episodes of this to catch more details....
