Yeah, neither did I, but somehow the script-writers of Chinese dramas seem to think this is how young women behave, even if the FL was half-way decent in the novel, they will still turn her into a brainless moron. So we shouldn't blame the actress, but the script-writers/directors!

" Wuxin" is a character in The Blood of Youth, who is supposed to be 17 years old but is played by Liu Xue Yi who has nearly twice this age. He did a good job in the role but nobody would believe the 17 years even for a second. What I'm trying to say with this is that many (female) viewers seem to be overly critical of the FLs, but are a lot more lenient when it comes to the male roles.

I understand what you mean... I not a fan of the "cult of young", as I prefer decent acting skills. This role, however, needed a young actress that could be believable as an immature teenager. Having just watched The Blood of Youth, no acting skills in the world could make me believe that Wuxin was a 17-year-old (yet strangly, barely anybody complained).
If they had done the same for the FL role in this drama the internet would probably explode...

I would add to this that audiences seem to be very critical towards FLs being "just a pretty face" whereas this seems to be perfectly acceptable for an ML. No matter how shitty the acting, some fan-girls will still rave on about the stellar performance (that never happened).

Just to be clear, I'm not talking about the ML of this drama, but a few others that I've seen recently.

Maybe give the girl some time to show what she can do with the multiple aspects of this role...

Thanks for the confirmation. It would have been a big surprise otherwise. So far everything that I've seen of him were pretty complex roles that called for real acting skills.

Yeah, acting-wise he's not doing much so far. I mean, staring meaningfully and casting sigils isn't really the acting I'm expecting to see from him 😄
I'm hoping his role will evolve to show us a bit more, otherwise it feels pointless to cast him for this.

He looks nothing like the ethereal, otherwordly beauty that he's supposed to be according to the novel. Those thick short eyebrows make him look more like the creepy uncle that hangs around schools... at least to me they do.
I was very much looking forward to this drama because I loved the story so you can imagine my disappointment.
At least the FL looks good...so I still have some hope that they didn't mess this up completely.

Yes, it's not fair to judge her only on these first few episodes... She is supposed to be like that, otherwise there wouldn't be much of a personality development. Since they are using the same actress for her as a teenager and as a grown woman, the voice is an easy tool to make this distinction.
It was the same for the FL in LBDAF... lots of complaints in the beginning and later everyone loved her.
It's funny that I don't hear anyone complaining about the childish voice and stupid speaking manner of Zhuo Hao. He is unpleasant both to the eyes and the ears.

I would think so. Even though he is wearing a mask, those lips can only point in one direction... Also, in the closing credits we see him with what looks like demon-style make-up.

I think her character will change/mature quite a bit over the coming episodes. Her whole expression in the scenes with her "demon make-up" is completely different.
