Imo the problem is with the writing in general. There are so many plot holes, weird cuts and characters that aren't…
Okay so we are def being robbed of crucial plot in FBC. I will add the original drama to my watchlist because I have a feeling I will be left unsatisfied at the end of this one.
It's also affirming that in the original JW's character is an artist, I was wondering why they didn't make her a photographer instead of a baker. She seems like the type of character who would want to take/create precious memories and that could have nicely tied into the plot.

Ju Won has no agency.
There is not a single action she has taken on her own. As a child she was told her dad could do anything even give her a brother so that is what she wished for. As a teen her first crush isn't someone she liked on her own, she only liked him because he liked her. She wanted to work at the restaurant with her dad because it was easy but he wanted her to try something on her own so she opened a bakery. She even (seemingly) only likes San Ha because he liked her.
The list goes on and on.
It's so easy to dislike her character because she only exists to drive the men's plots. Honestly watching this is making me want to re-watch Extra-Ordinary You because she is absolutely trapped in a story where she is NOT the main character.
This show would be greatly improved if the female characters had been given agency.
The FL can't act to save her life and the male lead looks 30+ af he needs to stop playing much younger characters…
She can. Her character is just written poorly. She has no agency, she doesn't get to be mad or upset for long, she just gets to pout and stomp her feet a bit so she comes off as very one dimensional but that's because she's only there to fit into SH's story.
SH get's the growth and the layers to his character.
If she had agency we would have seen her getting to go to baking school, find job, making friends, setting up her business, moving out on her own/with Dal. Instead we got a montage of her celebrating her BDay at home waiting for her "brother's" to call. Her father only has time to give her 'brother's' heart to heart's. He only worries about showing the boys love.
It's unfair to blame the FL when it's clear the story really isn't about her.
This show has a problem with its female characters.
I can't count how many times we've seen the male characters get to express a full gamut of emotions while the ladies all end up ... lacking agency. Hae Jun's mother single handedly raised him, ended up in prison (for god knows why) and her character comes off almost passive about wanting her son back but its very clear that since before he was even born she always prioritized him. So why does the director not give us more of that ? Even HJ's aunt was a young college student struggling to make her grades pay her bills, and take care of a child she never planned on having to be the sole primary caretaker of and yet the director makes us question her intentions rather than sympathize with her struggle. Even San Ha's mother is depicted as cold, mean spirited, down right vindictive and cruel when it comes to him, very little time is spent on what looks like postpartum/depression/mental health issues that she is clearly exhibiting. Instead we are made to sympathize with the husband who doesn't spend much time emotionally connecting to either his young son or his wife.
And then there is Ju Won's character who I would think is the central lead and yet all the men around her all seem to invalidate her and ignore her. She didn't seem to have any girl friends prior to Dal's introduction. She has no women to look up to except the one Auntie who is depicted as a busy body and keeps reinforcing outdated stereotypes. Her father regularly cooks her 'brothers' favorite meals but she has to beg him to cook hers? Her father regularly has heart to heart's with her 'brothers" but hasn't had a single one with her. Her "brothers" ignored her for years then show up again randomly and without warning and she is expected to "just go with it?" ... ' be in love with SH?"
And then there is Dal, who is sweet, funny, and kind, and smart and beautiful, and the ideal in almost every way a human can be IDEAL and somehow she is sidelined??? HOW?? Not to mention her mother is very degrading to her despite all of her perfection. I don't think there is a single female character in this show that is not maligned especially if they make the mistake of wanting something for themselves.
I am hoping the last 2 episodes do better but this has been such a wild ride to watch.
Even the setup of the chosen careers relating back to the love they each had for each other is inspiring, I see why the Cdrama has a greater appeal.
