I’d rather he has less screen time in a quality production than more time in a nonsensical production. The story…
These past few years, many chinese netizens were complaining about how cdramas lack originality. Platforms adapt novels for a quick buck, and capital push in favoured actors while screwing unfavoured ones. There's no way a good story can be done when everyone is scrambling for a part of the pie
I don't disagree with anything you said (except YZ influence usually means less screentime for XK🙄).BUT ...…
Understand. This is just an explanation, dont take it to heart. Fans are allowed to feel happy, sad, etc. Maybe its because i knew his screentime would not be THE highest (saw on weibo) so i was prepared. I was aware that the story would revolve around the dad and son. Either way im so happy
Screen time? Towards end of ep1 That ominous change in expression after his exchange with his father who then…
according to cnetz, couph medicine was not considered a drug in 1997. It only got recognized as a drug between 1998-2000 ( i guess the fact that the drama is based in 1997 seems deliberate them, implying that they were not necessarily selling drugs). But the crackdown and sentences were serious super serious back them. Also this would take a different turn if chen hui kills someone. thats like minimum 10 years or immediate life sentense depending on how far he goes
In the first ep the focus was on the father uncovering a murder scene as a police chief, the second ep he has…
Literally everyone is praising his acting im sooooooo happy. We just need to keep the current data momentum or do better. As for YOC, i guess it's my fault for having expectations 😭
Screen time? Towards end of ep1 That ominous change in expression after his exchange with his father who then…
i don't know if you remember, but in episode 1 or 2, when chen hui and songge was talking- they were saying something about people dying from uremia- could it be foreshadowing. According to cnetz there are alot of metaphors and literary stuff that we apparently dont understand
I see alot of people are complaining about xu kai's screentime, so im just gonna clear this up.
This is a tencent X theatre project. X theatre is a special tencent production house that produces realistic serious dramas on various genres. Their priority is the script, acting, directing. XK received this project from the director himself. This drama hardly has YZ influence. In this drama, everyone in this small town has their own agenda. From the main characters to the side characters everyone has their own motives. This focuses on human nature. There are multiple villians, each of them having different reasons to become villians. And the degree of how bad they are, is also different. Even the good people in this town have significant flows. Everyone has their own secrets which led to the unsafe nature. The drama touches on many realistic points that were prevalent in 1990s in china- the cough medicine was apparently a huge thing in guangzhou, mining marriages, police salary, cost of healthcare, investigation methods and many more. Even if this project went to a different actor with strong capital backing- they would not be able to change the script. If they did add scenes, that would disrupt the pace/flow of the plot which will make it so jarring. The script is very tight, fast paced, zero filter, filled with metaphors, foreshadowing etc. The bird's eye view of the plot not only makes the show super thrilling, but it also manages to keep the suspence, perfectly balancing the two (its like a person watching down the earth from a hot air balloon, seeing everything unfolding, but not being able to do anything to stop the bad stuff from happening). XK himself cherishes this drama and he had a blast filming with veterans (a truly rare opportunity for a young actor). He's the first 1995-1999 born actor to lead an x theater project
In the first ep the focus was on the father uncovering a murder scene as a police chief, the second ep he has…
you concern will be more of an issue in his next drama (yoc) , that production team is the ultimate scam. This project is completely different. I know you are new to the genre so i hope you understand. X theatre dramas gives priority to the plot and acting. Not the actors. This drama was given to xu kai by the director himself. If that lousy company had any influence, x theatre would have dropped this project from their roster ages ago. So far in chinese socials, xu kai's acting has been praised left and right. He even got into the hot search today just for his acting. Everyone is praising the plot. So don't worry too much. There are apparently so many twists and people to come ❤️
800 meters in distance is 8.75 football fields long, but 800 meters in radius is a circle whose area covers 376…
Pretty similar to where i live. Also i think there are nearby towns and a city as well. Coz liu na could go to the city police station to submit gao ying's material and come back within a day
above 24,000 for x theatre is good. Above 26,000 is extremely good. X theatre only has a few episodes. And they target the yunhe average not the heat index. Which is why we get one episode per day. One episode per day is bad for the heat increase, which is why its extremely hard to push the heat. But its better for the average (which is good for long term)

On the evening of April 17th, the TV series "Eight Hundred Meters Within a Frame" premiered on Tencent Video with four episodes. Starring Ding Yongdai, Xu Kai, and Deng Enxi, the series tells a crime and investigation story set in the 1990s. Based on the currently released episodes, the show is highly suspenseful and very engaging. Its suspense primarily stems from the skillful use of concealment and revelation, a technique many screenwriters struggle to master. The performances of young actors like Xu Kai and Deng Enxi are also commendable. This show is watchable and enjoyable.
To explain why "Eight Hundred Meters Within a Frame" is so suspenseful and engaging, one key point is its clever use of concealment and revelation in its crime suspense narrative. Many inexperienced screenwriters, when telling crime and suspense stories, like to hide things, creating numerous suspense points and concealing the truth. However, crime and suspense dramas that only hide things become less engaging. Appropriate revelation is crucial. As for what to reveal, it depends on the specific situation and requires specific analysis.
In this TV series, the opening scene is filled with suspenseful elements. For example, another case of burning a body occurs in the town. For example, the male lead's fiancée was burned twenty years ago. For example, illegal drugs appear in the town, but the source of the drugs remains unknown. For example, Tu Songyan's character is searching for a woman, but the identity of this woman is still unknown. These are all hidden suspense elements.
But if it only hides, the drama won't be engaging. What has "800 Meters Within a Square Meter" revealed so far? It reveals that Xu Kai's character and Deng Enxi's character are drug sellers, neither of whom play positive roles. And the male lead, played by Ding Yongdai, is unaware that his son is a criminal. In the cat-and-mouse game, both the cat and the mouse are in the open, while many hidden clues remain shrouded in suspense. This is what makes the show so captivating.
Furthermore, this drama weaves a "mat" within its crime suspense narrative. What does "mat-weaving" mean? Inexperienced crime suspense writers, when crafting this type of narrative, focus on a single suspense point, dragging it out endlessly, ultimately killing the audience's patience. Skilled writers, however, weave a "mat." The suspenseful elements appear alternately, creating a layered, mat-like effect. The crime suspense moves from individual points to lines, weaving many lines together to form the surface of the mat. This is exactly what "800 Meters Within a Square Meter" does.
This "mat-weaving" approach to suspense narrative makes it incredibly engaging. Once some suspenseful elements are revealed, new ones immediately emerge. The audience is then drawn in by these new mysteries. Under this narrative mode, viewers are constantly gripped by the crime suspense, always feeling intrigued by unsolved mysteries, and wanting to continue watching. This is the essence of a successful narrative.
At the same time, this TV series differs significantly from previous crime dramas—its narrative setting is a small town, a typical example of a close-knit community. Previous crime dramas rarely set in close-knit communities or small towns. Even crime dramas set in Northwest China like *Sandstorm* are set in a sizable city, where a close-knit community is difficult to establish.
Why are crime dramas set in close-knit communities more compelling? Because this close-knit community creates both the accidental and inevitable connections between criminals. For example, the criminal who buys, sells, and uses drugs immediately recognizes the female lead upon seeing her face and can easily find her. This is the inevitability of a close-knit community. Such stories can only be set in a small town. Even in a county town, it's not easily plausible.
For example, the attack on the male lead played by Xu Kai by Tu Songyan's character could only occur within a close-knit community. Small-town stories are told within a circle of a few thousand people. These people easily establish intricate connections. These connections directly weave a vast network within the historical context. This network is, in fact, the purpose of the narrative. Many serious literary creators prefer narrative settings even smaller than small towns—villages. This is because the smaller the narrative setting, the more realistic the social network woven by the narrative.
In addition to a solid script and high-quality filming, the performances of actors like Xu Kai and Deng Enxi are also commendable. Xu Kai, in particular, has shed the naiveté of a typical idol star and is now moving towards becoming a young, established actor. If he can maintain his acting prowess in this drama, then another talented and capable young actor will emerge in China's young male acting scene. (Text by Ma Qingyun)
