How many of us believe that it was really his 3rd time in the Burnout bar when he met Jira? According to how people talk about him and to him, it is far from the truth. The storytellers also do not let us forget that he is a playboy - while we see only sweet and thoughtful side of his in his actions with Jira, including those that Jira is not aware of, people who know him better than us and than Jira, tell us in every episode that he is a player, a bad boy and what not.
But most his lies are not even lies - they are half-truths.
When he tells Jira how he and Koh would always compete in the finals, Jira takes it as Pheem smoothly boasting of how brilliant he is, but by this time we know that Pheem actually never won against Koh. So him saying that "when we do not compete, we are OK" actually means "when we don't compete I don't hate him". An even quieter part is, "I don't hate myself for not being able to win over him".
These types of emotions are not helped with a win, I'm afraid, especially in romantic relationships.
He senses that Jira heals him, but what is the healing that he needs? What if his healing is getting his courage together to leave his job and his partnership with Koh? To find a way to trust in himself in that place in the dark that is broken and that he never truly shows others? I wonder if it is rather anger that can get him out there, than love.
Then again, people heal in many different ways. Whatever the healing path, I deeply wish him that he finds it. People deserve to heal and to not hurt.
*Burnout Syndrome, I finally registered here to write a comment about you!*
This story has captivated me, and waiting for 2 weeks instead of 1 is going to be so hard. I love all the 6 actors and I have an immense respect towards all the team for creating this artful masterpiece - and such a strong social commentary that I often forget about the romantic part, absorbed in the dynamics, pain and suffering of the inhumane AI craze of the ruling class.
It is also so surprising for me how after giggling and blushing all the way for Pheem and Jira for 4 episodes straight, I found myself falling out of this charm at episode 5. Mind you, I AM going to watch other Dew's works and I AM interested in his character development, he captured my heart with his acting, style and hotness. However, I started to feel wary of Pheem and I find it harder to trust him as the story goes.
I don't know if it comes more from Jira's responses to him: he consciously likes Pheem, but each time they get closer, he freezes. Be it intimate or art-related. And Jira keeps asking Pheem if his sweet gestures are just a lie ("are you just saying that you like this music?", "do you tell this to everyone" - repeated already more than once). Or maybe it comes also from Pheem's behavior, things like Pheem having a new tatoo - is it even a real one? At the end of episode 2 and in the episode 3 he does not have it - and now he not only knows everything about this exhibition but also has an artsy tatoo that is completely healed? I don't buy it.
And then with the drawing scene... I felt Pheem's behavior violating Jira's boundaries as an artist. He seemed to be eager to pose for Jira for several episodes now, but as soon as he got to this space, he actually did everything to not allow Jira go into his flow. His gaze stayed on Jira for a long time, and then he came over, touched him, basically he does not have his own flow around Jira, he simply fills Jira's space with himself.
Then, Jira had his flow broken already several times by an intimacy with Pheem when he himself wanted that intimacy. I do not fully understand why yet.
I am very curious to see why the are not going to sleep together as the next episode airs.
